"18.04 According to Reuters the US has said it would hold Russia directly responsible if it has threatened the use of force against the Ukrainian military. "

Little late there, guys, it’s already been proven false.

Man I fear sometimes knowing that the government probably gets it’s info the same way the rest of us do…
The world governments’ put their seal of approval on any political news and the MSM release whatever they’re allowed to. Are there any completely independent sources - possibly - but they will no doubt be subdued and/or thrown in with the conspiracists or tin foil hat brigade, theories.

The U.S. is killing Muslims almost every week in Iraq and Afghanistan.

From 2004 to 2009, more than 66,000 civilians, surely almost all Muslims, perished in Iraq as a result of the U.S. invasion and subsequent occupation. That 66,000 only counts the civilians, and only counts the deaths between 2004 and 2009. I’m not sure what the count is if you throw Afghanistan in there or you start adding the military deaths. We’re probably looking at several hundreds of thousands of dead Muslims since 2001.
With Al Quaeda and Iran fighting over Iraq now, the count will escalate. Saddam was responsible for a million deaths. Would you put him back in power if you could?

At the UN Security Council meeting that Russia called, the Russian ambassador presented a letter where Ukraine’s ousted President Viktor Yanukovych has written to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to use military force in Ukraine

Off hand, I would say this does not bode well for Ukraine, and indicates a possible expansion of the Russian military actions in Ukraine.Ukraine’s ousted President Viktor Yanukovych has written to Russian President Vladimir Putin asking him to use military force in Ukraine, says Russia’s envoy to the UN, Vitaly Churkin.

Russian troops, still surrounding all major military installations in Crimea, try to persuade Ukrainian troops to defect

One Ukrainian marine asks: “Am I a terrorist? Are we causing a threat to the Black Sea fleet of Russia?” Turchinyuk replies: “We have an order, which we are carrying out. The goal of me coming here … is to carry out the task given by the president of the Russian Federation in agreement with your legitimately elected president [Viktor Yanukovych].”

During another encounter at the headquarters of Ukraine’s fleet on Monday morning, Ukrainian navy officers rejected pleas for them to defect to the self-declared Crimean government.

Because of all this news there is other stuff in the background.

Mr Obama warned, Washington would have limited ability to protect Israel from “international fallout”.

But Mr Netanyahu reacted defiantly, vowing: “I won’t give in to pressure.”

:hmmm:

If Russia is the aggressor then why did the president of the region INVITE Russia in for protection and why has their been almost no resistance to Russia? Not much of an “invasion” if the people are greeting you in happiness…
Crimea is not a sovereign state. If the Governor of California invited Mexican troops to cross at San Ysidro to “protect” the people of California, and Mexico did so, that would naturally be an act of war. Crimea has no rights in international law to conduct its own foreign policy.

I’ve never seen a thread go to 1,000+ posts so quickly! We’d better get ready for a new thread…

The only thing I fear is that the Russians will suppress the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Beyond that, why do they want to join the EU so bad? The EU is at the forefront of pushing the anti-Christian, pro-homosexual progressive agenda in Europe.

I think there are a few reasons why some of the Ukrainians would want EU ties. First, they might enjoy some economic benefits. Second, western Ukraine has always been more oriented to the west than to Russia. It’s right next to Poland and was part of Poland off and on, and Poland has always been western-oriented. Third, justifiable fear of Russia.

The Russian speakers in the east and south would not share a great deal of those characteristics.

What has been the statement of Churches in Russia?
Leaders of the Christian churches in Ukraine have joined in a plea to Russian leaders to “abandon the military and other… interference in the internal affairs of Ukraine.”

The statement by the Ukrainian Church leaders says that Russian military intervention especially is “a threat not only to our country but to the peace and security of the entire European continent.” The statement was All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and signed by the group’s leader, Metropolitan Onufry of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow patriarchate.
In a related development, Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow has responded to a plea from Metropolitan Onufry by promising to “do everything possible to persuade those in power that they cannot allow destroying peaceful people in the Ukrainian land so dear to my heart.” The Russian primate said that although the Moscow patriarchate would not take sides in a political dispute, the Orthodox Church would do everything possible to prevent military conflict.

I know that Sebastopol is Russia’s only warm-water naval base, but does Ukraine have any naval bases outside the Crimea? I’m trying to understand what strategic assets are at risk here.
I think Ukraine has nothing to fight, but Ukraine has 45 million people. See what a tense situation this is, we pray peace to God children.

We pray this, Brothers Sisters! !

Our Father !

Hail Mary!

Thank you, Gilliam. I did try to go back, but I just couldn’t find it.

Is there a particular revenue or resource from Crimea that would damage Ukraine’s economy further if Russia claims the peninsula?

Obama is really, really weak.

Not going to Sochi for the Olympics, then telling Russia what to do when this is none of our business, and now not going to Sochi for G8. Boycotting Russian trade is on the horizon. Guess I will have to buy my wife her fur coats from Canada now 😃

Romney warned everyone that Barry was weak in foreign policy and this shows it.

I don’t see how any of that outweighs having acceptance of homosexuality, a sin which cries out to heaven for vengeance, forced on them by the EU elites. They would do well to stay away from both Russia and the EU.

MODERATOR NOTICE

This thread is wandering please keep the topic to the situation in Ukraine.

I agree…👍👍

As I just posted in another thread: Russia is a threat and must be stopped. If we (the U.S.) don’t stop him in The Crimea, he will continue to move father and farther into Eastern Europe. We are letting a former colonel in the KGB (the KGB! A domestic terror organization!) dictate his own terms.

As I posted: Go back through 1,000 years of Russian history and there are only two salient themes: expansion and warm water ports. The Czars/Lenin/Stalin/Khrushchev…Putin must be corralled.

That Russia passed anti-gay laws, is experiencing a rebirth of social/religious conservatism, is irrelevant, and an obfuscation. That Russia is good because it is threatening the EU because the EU is “liberal,” is misguided in absolute terms. That Russia is a “Christian” nation is superfluous.

We’re talking about the protecting inalienable right of a sovereign people to determine their own destiny.

That’s about all I have to post on the matter. To view Russia as anything other than a threat to **our **well-being is so foolish as to be irrelevant and not worth further response.
