Actually it would be valid, just not licit.If they were consecrated without mandate, then the consecration was not valid anyway…

The difference is that the consecrated man would indeed be a bishop with the ability to ordain and confirm, but he would be in grave sin for accepting the consecration (as would the consecrating bishops), or for exercising those powers. I believe it’s actually an automatically excommunicative offense.ahh. sorry. All these terms just fly over my head![]()
Ok, I actually just read the article, and it appears that this cannot be an automatic excommunication. I do believe it still constitutes the sin of disobedience, but at least they appear to be submitting themselves to Rome.No problem!
