TV is EVIllLLL!!! Anyone who watches it will go to hell! It’s the devil’s weapon!!!
Seriously though, it is pretty hard to find anything that isn’t garbage or really dumb. But aside from EWTN there’s only a handful of shows that gets my attention; Person of Interest is pretty well done, Psych is usually pretty funny and Mythbusters is always interesting. Sometimes The Mentalist. Dirty jobs is very good too, entertaining and educational.

90s - Lois and Clark the New adventures of Superman and the 90s seasons of Growing Pains and Full House. Yes, I liked family sitcoms. Also liked Rugrats on Nickelodeon before it became Spongebob Central. Also liked Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Currently i like Once Upon a time (but wasn’t thrilled with the recent revelation of Henry’s father) and…(religious alert!) most programs on EWTN

You said it (and I’ve got friends with DVDs of all episodes). I still can’t forget that word near the end… ‘phalange.’

:rotfl:

Thanks for the memories.

My co-workers at my previous work place bonded over Friends. We didn’t know each other prior to working there and we got acquainted by talking the episode the night before or quoting lines or whatever.

It was a silly show and the whole thing seems superficial but it really greased the social wheels for me. I don’t see how that is a negative thing. It’s not like we were going to sit and have a bible study at lunch.

Nobody forces anyone to watch anything, which is something that seems to be consistently ignored. You can throw the TV out if you want and never watch anything.

The problem is that people want to control everyone else’s choices and tell them what they can and cannot do. “If I think it’s bad, then it’s bad for everyone”

Set up rules for yourself and your family and leave everyone else to do the same.
I agree with this. I think it’s very important to know yourself and your family. As I am single and live alone I worry about myself and I know my limits. I know what sort of things will lead me to sin or are a near occasion of sin and I will avoid these type of programs. I have a VERY healthy libido and since I have nowhere to channel this as a single person I avoid programs that will feed this.

I think it’s illogical and frankly masochistic to watch shows that you know will get you hot and bothered when you don’t have any morally acceptable outlet for this.

The same thing could be said for anything like violence or any other sin that you know you have a weakness for. It’s pretty simple in my opinion.

On campus, there is an unwritten rule about TV watching:
“Only watch liberal Western shows”.
That unwritten rule hurts me because I watch mostly anime and Asian dramas.

That aside, is it a bad thing to criticize bad television?

That’s interesting. I live in the west and I barely watch anything western. 😛 Kinda makes it hard to add much to this thread.

And while it’s not a bad thing to criticize bad shows, it’s not what we’re supposed to do on this thread. LostWanderer was very clear that this is a thread about celebrating TV, so it’s not the proper place to condemn it. I guess we can have a discussion about people’s limits and preferences, but we’re not supposed to condemn all of secular TV. That is the one thing LostWanderer said we shouldn’t do here.

To be fair, that unwritten rule applies to the student body on the university that I’m studying in. I blame those liberal-progressives in the student body for making up that pointless rule. Some of them want me to watch shows such as “Glee” when I’m bored to death of those shows.

Point taken. 🙂

Now, I do think that some Asian dramas are better dubbed than subbed. The reason is because in the case of Korean dramas, the romanization is not very consistent between the main channel vs. the fansubs.
