*I do not want to be biased or judgmental but I need to understand this fully.
  1. Some people try to say that it is genetic but I have heard Doctors say that this is not so.
  2. It is said that sometimes it is conditioned by the home environment yet one finds families with several children all experiencing the same family life yet one will be homosexual and the others not.
  3. I once saw a programme on television where a man with SSA said that he was also an atheist but now that he is converted he realizes that this is his cross and opted for celibacy.
I would like to hear from everybody, especially Christians with SSA.

Thank you
God bless

Number 3 is a definite! Homosexuals are definitely called to celibacy! As for number 1 and number 2, it may be a combination of both.

Jesus, our Lords peace be with You.
Dear friend. Understanding it is not importent,to accept it is. We must love them as we need to love all people because Jesus did love all, even the sinners, and we must pray for those who are so that they will keep on living in celibacy as each singel person must. Understanding is not the key to anything, loving is,and we must love all with the same love Jesus teached us to love. I once watched a child with Down-syndrome,and I thought,“he is perfect in Gods eyes,so therefor he must be perfect also in ours”. God never create anything “just because”,when we know that,we don’t need to do moore then love all.

What a wonderful, wonderful answer! 🙂

Fact is that there has not been a gene discovered for SSA.*
2. It is said that sometimes it is conditioned by the home environment yet one finds families with several children all experiencing the same family life yet one will be homosexual and the others not.

We don’t know all the factors and how much each influences any particular individual with SSA.

He “gets” it. 👍

*I appreciate your responses. I know we must love all humans and I do.

BUT

I need to hear from a person with SSA and find out how he/she ticks.

Hello Cinette! I have SSA and will try to answer some of your questions.

Question 1 / 2
Not sure if it is genetic or not. I have a younger brother and he does not have SSA. I knew from a earlier age, I would say around 10 or so that I was “different”.

Question 3
I always had a strong faith in God. I was baptized Catholic, but raised Lutheran. I went through the RCIA program around 28 years old. So now I understand more about suffering and how important it can be. So before I used to just think that my SSA had some reason, did not know why. Now I try to look at it as my cross.

I would be happy to answer any other questions you might have. God Bless!

This is an excellent approach in attitude toward any sinner of any measure. For the Father is the Judge and He sees Mercy in His Son Jesus Christ acceptable.

But if I may add that may give some understanding. The heart is full of desire, in the expectation of the fulfillment thereof. For a broken heart, is the realization or belief, that there is no fulfillment of the heart’s desire.

Hence there is no fulfillment in a lie. And God’s Mercy saw this in the days of Noah before the flood. And addresses what He sees in mens hearts

Gen:6:5: And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And then addresses His Heart (amazing heart to heart, God’s Love always prevails)

Gen:6:6: And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

And then the Lord our God addresses the circumstance that shall be, after the flood. In which He begins to resolve in and through the linage of Abraham.

Gen:8:21: And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

Through Adam He saw and declared, through Noah He saw and declared. Even though there was no thought toward Him. His Heart, and Thoughts is always toward the fulfillment of His Word Given to Man for man to be. Hence the Truth the Way and the Life.

In this we understand that without His intervention in human existence man is “for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth”.

Therefore we are not to Judge nor accuse for the same is in us, if we do not believe or trust in His fulfillment of His Word in us.

Mt:4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Of which the Son of God fulfilled in the Son of man for without God man cannot fulfill that which is of God.

Ok back to homosexuality and the like.

The law states this, and not that. But Jesus has fulfilled the Law for us that it can be fulfilled in us, to the Father’s satisfaction. Hence yes, God Father through the Son Jesus sees us as Him. Therefore it is not for us to catagorize one man from another. For the saint’s walk is truly that others ether hate them, or Love the Lord. For the saints show that it is the Lord to look to, not themselves.

So without God men’s hearts are nothing but liars, and in the site of God without God, man is good for nothing, in God’s site. This can seem cold, but God made man to be with Him, not something else. Though yes man is made to participate in the created but that which is of God is eternal to participate with Him.

If one understands this of himself, he knows only God is Good. Therefore it is necessary for a man that believes the lies in his heart, ether by garbage in garbage out, as in leaned, or by experiences that his heart and mind interpret lies about that experience, convince him to believe the fulfillment and satisfaction is according to the lie, or experience.

But without God’s intercession, this can not be corrected. For the replacement of a lie with a lie and not the Truth, and heals nor liberates nothing from the bondage of the lie. For without the Truth what can replace a lie but another lie, and the Truth is not of men but of God Himself. Which is true in all case in the healing of the heart. Jesus is all things to all men who seek the Truth of God, which sets you free.

In God’s dwelling place there shall be no dark rooms. Nothing hidden from the Truth. Or God does not abide there in. But His Grace shall teach you well, to be well with Him. Therefore God replaces that which is in our hearts with that which is in His, surly we understand that King David sot after God’s own Heart, and not his own. And when he did, he repented.

So it’s not really about understanding homosexuality, for there is a basket full of interpretations that for the most part seek the justification for. it’s about understanding our own hearts and the Heart of God that is Justified. Hence Jesus Christ of Nazareth is our Justification that is of God and not of our own.

*Dear Mustang

Don’t waste your suffering!

I hope you have lots of love from your family and friends.

A young girl who studied biology and zoology was saying that a lot of hormones have been released into the water table and this affects many people. My breasts developed when I was 12 years old but nowadays little girls as young as 8 are developing breasts.

Life is short and people like yourself do have a heavy cross but it can be done. I believe that seminaries should not reject men with SSA because they can be has holy and devout and celibate as anyone else.

We have a beautiful faith and the fullness of truth.

You will have your reward.

The question we often ask ourselves, and God, is why? Usually when we are in a bad or uncomfortable situation. I can think of no one I know who does not have some burden. Yes, some burdens appear to be bigger than others.

The Bible tells us: “With wisdom get understanding.” If homosexuality, today, is properly understood, a more fruitful dialogue can result. Doctors will not treat a condition until they know what causes it.

Here is information from the Catholic Medical Association:

I struggle with opposite sex attraction issues that I need to address. As a sinner, I need to work out my own salvation.

God bless,
Ed

OP—Some may find your comments about estrogen in the water as a possible factor to be humorous or stupid. I think not; it’s clear that our environment is getting impacted in many ways by many different chemicals and also because we are raising children to be more sedentary (witness the new peanut allergies).

There may be an environmental influence here. As well as a broader social one: our gender roles are just not as important or impactful as they once were.

I’ve searched and searched, and there’s precious little real science going on about the formation of homosexual tendencies.

Mustang: you say at 10 you felt “different”. This is a word I’ve commonly seen used by homosexuals to describe the phenomenon. Can you be more precise?

Captain America

No offence meant, but it seems to me that you see things in Adam’s way where one is condemned to be such and such do to the blamed of something else. My friend, the Lord released the curse on the ground, or did not again cure the ground, way back in Noah’s day. Hence the dust we are made of is not cursed nor to be blamed for one’s choice to do this or that.

Your words seem to be of, if one is rased in the hostile ghettos run by gangsters, then he is condemned to be like that, and the environment is to blame.

No one nor nothing makes you do anything whether you desire it or not. Only that one agrees in one’s heart that such and such interpretations of the conditions at hand is the way to fulfill such and such desire. Nor is any one required to entertain anything in one’s mind, that you choice not to entertain. Such and such may come to mind but it does not require your entertainment thereof.

IPet:5:6: Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10: But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11: To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Jms:4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

The point being that God provides what is necessary for His Children to become that which He would have them to be. And he who says God can’t do it, or implores others that it can’t be done. Seeks not the Mercy of God for others. There is no circumstance that the Lord God can’t handle, to bring one His into His Ways.

Cinette, thank you for your kind words. Yes it can be a tough cross to bear, but like edwest2 said we all have a cross to bear. Whenever I want to fall into self-pity, I do try to remember that others have a cross that impacts their lives in a very different way. For instance I can get out of bed every day and walk, I can see all the beauty around me. I have the freedom to practice our Catholic faith without fear, etc. There are a lot of people who do not that.

I am blessed to have a good family and lots of friends. At the moment I am not “out” as they say. I am sure people have their suspicions. I think most everyone would understand, but for a long time I was afraid of being rejected.

As far as the suffering goes, every week at Mass I offer up my sufferings to Jesus.

Captain America, as far as the feeling different comment goes, I will take a hack at explaining it. It is a feeling of just not belonging, sort of being out of place. I guess almost like you are in a foreign land. It gets worse as you get older. Then you mix in loneliness and it can get interesting. Of course we all have feelings of loneliness at times. I guess you start to fear for the future a bit, like you will never have someone. Of course you will have friends, but they get busy with their own families, etc. I hope I do not come across as complaining or whining. :o That is not my intention just trying to explain some of the feelings that I have experienced on my journey. As time goes on and I have matured a bit, I am letting go of a lot of the fear and learning to trust in God. In the end that is what is important. God Bless

I do not want to be biased or judgmental but I need to understand this fully.

1. Some people try to say that it is genetic but I have heard Doctors say that this is not so.
what is your question?
what is it you want to understand?
the origin of the homosexual tendency? science does not yet have a complete answer.

the Catholic moral teaching on homosexual acts? it is in the catechism.

what difference would it make if the tendency or temptation to commit immoral or harmful actions was based in genetics or arose during early development? Would that make the actions less harmful or immoral?

I have a disease and one of the symptoms and even diagnostic markers for that disease is an overwhelming desire to consume substances, including alcohol and sugars, that are actually dangerous for me and a real threat to my health. As yet science seems to conclude that this disease has both genetic and developmental components. Does that make a difference to me if I succumb to the strong temptation to consume those dangerous substances?

If my struggle with this disease is even 1/100th as hard as that of someone struggling with homosexual tendencies my sympathies are entirely with them, as are my prayers. Of whom much is demanded, much is forgiven, says the Lord.

Mustang: I can appreciate the “feeling different” stuff. My family moved when I was young, really uprooted me, and circumstances kept me from getting acclimated for many years. I really felt like I was in the wrong place, with the wrong people, and knowing where the right place and the right people were—back in the old place. I think, too, physical maturity varies and that was a concern for me. There really should be some easy-to-use terms to describe this kind of thing. I suppose I still believe my reality would be much better today if I had been returned to my “native land.”

I don’t know what to make of the other fellow’s comment on my posting. I don’t believe in environmental determinism, but one’s environment can matter in many different and subtle ways. Talk with a lighting designer sometime, or an architect, or an army scout.

  1. Some people try to say that it is genetic but I have heard Doctors say that this is not so.
I don’t think there is a certain “gay gene”. I feel it’s just your sexual preference. For instance some guys like blonde girls and some guys like brunetee guys/*
  2. It is said that sometimes it is conditioned by the home environment yet one finds families with several children all experiencing the same family life yet one will be homosexual and the others not.
YOU ARE BORN GAY. YOU ARE NOT MADE GAY. 👍
  3. I once saw a programme on television where a man with SSA said that he was also an atheist but now that he is converted he realizes that this is his cross and opted for celibacy.
Sure I can believe he feels that way.

*I like or love people for their character and personality.

What prompted me to start this thread was an exchange with my Parish Priest (Jesuit) who made a remark in the weekly bulletin and I quote:

In your Pastor’s Corner commentary this week you stated “…by churches and journeys with gay and lesbian people as they try to be true to themselves and God”. By saying that they are being “true to themselves” are you saying that you endorse the homosexual lifestyle? It depends what you mean by homosexual lifestyle. If you are talking about physical expression then no, if you are talking about being gay and knowing that you are gay and living as a gay and being open about it then the answer is yes, I am endorsing that. Being in the closet is a dangerous and potentially damaging thing.

I have a friend who is lesbian and I love her dearly - I will always be her friend. However, I dislike the homosexual sub-culture which is promoted in the media. I really do not like this gay marriage thing. Yesterday on Larry King the latter was interviewing Ricky Martin, a pop artist who is gay and who has twins that were conceived through the collaboration of a surrogate. I was appauled!! These twins will never know a Mother!!! What a egoist that man is! How terribly selfish! How wrong!

I do not approve of the gay parade and the behaviour demonstrated which is ugly. I do not believe in gay clubs and the gay culture.

I think that gay people belong with us and not apart in a separate gay society!

There is a gay and lesbian group at my parish and somehow I feel that is right.

Captain America, I agree with you, our environment can influence us and helps make us who we are. When I say environment I mean everything, from our parents to our friends to the community itself. I think it is just one of many factors that HELP make us who and what we are. Of course we always have our own wills to determine who and what we want to be, but I think our environment can still play a role in this. For instance, if you take a child and their whole life they are told they won’t amount to anything, they are no good, etc. that child will most likely grow up and not accomplish much of anything.

I work at a University and there are many times that kids from some of the disadvantage schools are brought onto campus to show them what is possible. There have been motivational speakers, one program had the kids on campus for around six weeks just working with engineering projects. The whole point is to show these children that there is so much more available to them than they might think.

It sounds like your move was pretty rough on you as a child. I did not move as a child, but I can only try to imagine what it would be like to leave my school, all my friends and everything I had known. What I try to do is to take my situation and just make the best of it. Chances are I won’t get married, have children, etc. What I can do is enjoy being around my friends children, spoil them on their Birthdays and at Christmas and just have many close friendships. So as I come to accept my situation I am learning how to live my life to its fullest potential.

*There was a family with three daughters and then when the wife was over 40 plus she had a son. The father was the owner of a sports store and wanted his son to be sporty but the son was not interested and the father would refer to him as his “4th daughter”! You can imagine what this did to the child.

One of the father’s employees in the shop began to invite the youngster fishing and they had a great time and then one day the man made an advance!!! The child was confused but this was his friend!! so he endured the sexual advances.

One day he decided to speak to a counselor at his school and was told “You are homosexual and must accept it”. So he embraced the gay lifestyle.

Later he met a man who got to know him well and told him that he believed that he was not gay - he counseled him and the young man later married and had children.

Today he speaks to young people about this and counsels them.

This seems to me to be an example of someone who was “conditioned”. I don’t say all are but there are other examples.

Cinette:)*

Cinette, I agree with your Priest and I think that is where a lot of confusion comes in. I think people just see the really outrageous stuff and can walk away with the impression that all gay people are like that. Chances are that many people interact with gay people every day and never know it. Being homosexual is a trait that is not always easy to spot. So it is not obvious that there are many gay people out there who are trying to live moral lives, who try to fit in and work in society and are not out to make the whole world change for us.

A lot of times people like myself will say we are SSA, or same sex attracted. I guess the distinction is that our attractions are for the same sex, so in that manner we are gay, but we are trying to live our lives as the Church teaches. The thinking goes that if I say I am gay or homosexual, then a lot of people will jump to a conclusion that I have partner and all the stereotypes will come into play.

Growing up I did not know of any other openly gay people. When I got to college I worked with several other people who were gay. So finally I was around some other people who were just like me. After a while I went to my first gay bar with a friend of mine. I have to say the first time I was a bit nervous, did not know what to expect. After a while I felt like I was home. Finally there were a group of people who were just like me! Of course over time I found many elements of the gay scene that I did not care for, but there are also a lot of elements of the straight bar/club scene that I don’t care for either. Really the point is that feeling like your belong and being around others that are in the same situation that you are in can be a very powerful feeling and attraction. Of course I am not saying that this justifies everything that goes on.

As far as using a surrogate to conceive a child, I agree it is just sad. I see so much going on that just reduces life down to a commodity. I think in some instances a baby is becoming just something to be purchased and added to the ever growing pile of stuff that we “need” to live our lives. I think there are a lot of times that us Adults can be very selfish and worry about our wants and desires instead of the needs of a child.
