Well, since our current culture promotes abortion and wasteful, meaningless sex, and we Catholics are opposed to that, we are written off as anti-sex, anti-woman, and anti-gay. People are unwilling to listen to Catholic teachings because they have to pay attention for more than three seconds.
As for muslims, they seem to have the upper hand in America. If you disagree, then explain why whenever I’m at the airport, I get profiled and the obviously muslim guy doesn’t, me being a white guy with brown hair, green eyes, a born US citizen and speaks nothing but English.

Oh, OK, I understand, you are from Canada. First of all, Canada is far more accepting of gays, lesbians, and abortion than America. Secondly Canadians like to pretend they are on some sort of higher moral level than Americans. It is all ridiculous. Canada is just as bad, just as immoral as America, they just like to use America as a scapegoat and just say “wow, look at what America is doing, what a horrible place” instead of actually looking at what they are doing. The one without sin should throw the first stone.I have never met an American, except on the internet and I have to tell you online they’re not representing your country very well (except on this forum - most places I’ve been online I’ve only seen the worst side of humanity. And I don’t think that’s an American thing but an internet thing… most countries come off looking bad via online representation). Wait, I lied, an American came through my till one night at work and I remember being shocked because he was friendly and polite. Haha. The internet corrupts absolutely.
Bottom line, I do not believe your country has reached the depths of Sodom and Gomorrah. I really don’t. Certain things are still considered wrong, I’m sure. Like murder, child abuse, rape, etc… and these things, if I understand scripture correctly, were considered acceptable norms for Sodom and Gomorrah.

This is just mind boggling to me. There are tons of good people that get screwed over in the world and there are tons of horrible sinners that have more money than we can even dream of…so why isn’t God helping these good people and making the sinners suffer?

Excuse me, I never said Canada was perfect. In fact I said there is evidence that our country is ‘being punished’. America does not look perfect from the outside but it doesn’t look terrible either.

The Canadian believes the God of the Old Testament is the God of the New as well.
And in the Old Testament He punished countries that defied His will. 
But really my believing this doesn’t hurt anyone, especially since I am not prone to sharing this idea anywhere but online and in context of a conversation.

first of all, I am not a racist. I know several muslims, and they are very cool people. I do not believe that all muslims are terrorists. I believe if TSA is going to frisk me, they should frisk him too, just to be fair.
Second, you don’t seem to notice the anti-Catholicism that runs rampant in the media. When people hear “priest”, they think “pedophile”, when the percentage of US priests accused of sex abuse is about 0.53%. People think they know Catholics, but they don’t.

Does God have the power to punish us, absolutely. Will there be consequences of our actions, there already are. Our greed of demanding both cheap goods and high pay is already hurting our economy and will likely get much worse. Our fascination with sexual impurity is devaluing relationships and causing much grief. Does this mean God will punish us with fire and brimstone? I think it’s a stretch and a slippery slope.
We know Jesus was harsher toward religious than sinners. If we are going to use that Logic, I can’t help but look at something like the legion of Christ scandal, which is a group the hierarchy supported, and the pretty compelling evidence that there is probably a higher percentage of SSA sexually active clergy than in the population at large, we may be looking at some punishment ourselves.
Maybe he’s looking to use some of us to rescue this nation.

People romanticize the past and fail to see the
things that have improved. Mostly people fail to see
how brutal and merciless human history has been,
and still is in many places. It is good to notice the
things that are causing us to separate us from God. I just hope people see it as a call to do their part to build relationships that will change things, not wait for judgment.

I think you are looking at this wrong. First of all I don’t think it is fair to say so and so was punished by God or someone else was rewarded by God because there are always good people that are struggling and bad people that are prospering.
Also, as for there being a lot of gay priests, it makes sense. Someone is a devout Catholic, they are gay, they know they can’t be with a man and still be in good standing with the church, they know they can’t have a family, so they turn to the priesthood where they are going to be celibate and their sexual orientation doesn’t really matter. They aren’t gay because they are priests, they are priests because they are gay.
