“Too many communities around this country feel their voices are not being heard, their complaints about racist treatment are unheeded, and we are not doing enough to point out that this deadly treatment is antithetical to the Gospel of Life,” they said. (US Bishops)
George Floyds autopsy report indicates no sign of traumatic asphyxiation from what the police officer is shown doing in the now widely viewed video.
It appears that Mr. Floyd died from heart disease and ‘potential’ intoxicants…pending lab results.

What is deadly treatment?
The bishops encouraged Americans to encounter people of different cultural backgrounds and seek greater understanding and unity.
I would rather hear US Bishops address the destruction of property, looters and robbers as seen from coast to coast in many cities.

Science and evidence will be clear with a second autopsy. This way there is no doubt.

There are many angry…and Mr. Floyd has nothing to do with it.

Video bits and pieces and hearsay don’t count at this time.
A full reveal of sequence of events and evidence is what matters in court.
Officer Derik Chauvin’s personal record will matter but I doubt his impending marital divorce has anything to do with the arrest of Mr. Floyd.
Reactionary comments that inflame violence and disruption are disappointing.
Due process

That would be next to impossible to prove, so I don’t think that is likely. The most an autopsy is likely to show is that Mr. Floyd had pre-existing conditions that made it more likely that this illegal hold would kill him. But that does not let Officer Chauvin off the hook, because he should not have been using that procedure even on a perfectly healthy individual.

I don’t blame the family for wanting an independent autopsy. They believe the system is rigged and will do and say anything to get that officer off. Knowing how these things have gone in the past, the family is right to be suspicious. If I were in their shoes, I would demand an independent autopsy, too.

An angry mob is ravaging the city near me.
Breaking into stores and buildings
Looting
Burning cars
What did the US Bishops say?
Tell me again?

You’re upset because our bishops are addressing racism… I suggest taking this to your spiritual director.

Spiritual directors and priests are unavailable…pandemic shutdown…been that way for weeks now and will continue that way with the way things are going.

Our bishops publicly addressed a misperception of racism at time when anger, destruction, violence and disruption rule the day.

Incorrect. I live in NY state and although everything was closed for a long time, my priests were available if I needed their guidance or confession. I urge you to contact yours.

The parish answering machine gives an “emergency only” contact number.
My personal concerns don’t rate as an emergency.
And no email contact on the parish website.
I suspect most people are without clear guidance all these weeks and now our bishops come out with this. Disappointing

No, this isn’t an emergency for you. I’m assuming your concerns can wait until you can speak directly with a priest or other spiritual advisor. Nonetheless, if you’re angry that our bishops are addressing racism, that’s where you should seek counsel.

I understand your direction and appreciate it but it isn’t just about our bishops addressing racism…it is about addressing racism at time when racism isn’t the issue. Very simply, violent and destructive behavior reigns.

You believe this isn’t about racism but that doesn’t mean you’re correct. I certainly don’t agree with that claim.

Have you ever watched episodes of Cops on TV? I am not an avid viewer but I have watched a few. The show gives a good eyeful of the many different calls cops go on. Cops handle criminals of all different colors in the same way.
If you wan’t to talk about police brutality, then fine. Today’s cop has his/her hands full. There ain’t no time to discriminate by color of skin. Crime is crime. An arrest is an arrest.
The process beyond that is not their business.
Cops have the what I think is the most rotten occupation.

I would not be so sure as to think you know more than they do, and what is best. Shepherding is their job, after all.

I’ve made it clear that I condemn the violent behavior in the streets of several cities. But surely you must see some connection between the violence, as well as the legitimate protests, and the racism inflicted by some police officers on Black people. It can’t all be fake news.

I like Shepherds and Shepherding 👍
We all are feeling particularly vulnerable at this time.
Encountering truth of the matter is kind of important to me right now. I’m sure there are others feeling the same way.
I’m about 7 hours away from another televised Sunday Mass for shut ins.
Good night

This is not that unusual in the rest of the Americas.
Welcome to the Americas … and I am sorry…
This is for law enforcement and jail…
There are usually organizers and resentment they tap on. Not hard to find where there is inequality. And then a lot of destruction left behind.
Won’t be the last time…

It is one thing to address racism. It is an altogether different thing to reinforce a harmful stereotype.
You mean the truth?
