I don’t know whether he is a true conservative or not, all I can do is look at his actions. And cutting spending by thee tenths of one percent is not the actions of someone who believes in smaller government.

In 2002, tax revenue fell and taxes were cut in 2001. It is possible to have a tax cut that would generate such large behavioral effects that it could cause tax revenue to increase. But the closest we might have come to that is the Kennedy tax cuts.

Texas. Where gas comes from and it’s the same price here as everywhere else, ignoring taxes.

People always say that, but if I Google Chicago grocery store and pull up Dominick’s weekly ad, the prices are about the same as here. It’s not $10/lb of chicken or for a box of cereal like I might have thought.

However, if food is so expensive in your area that you can’t afford to eat, you should move, not go on a government program. Or get together with your neighbors and have food Fedexed in bulk to you from Texas.

Actually what I really said was:

In 2011, Wisconsin State Spending was $28.9 billion, while in 2012 it fell to $28.8 billion, a change of 3 tenths of one percent. To complain about big government and make a minuscule change in spending are not the marks of someone who believes in small government. I am just reporting the facts, how is reporting the facts being unfair?

Some people will continue to buy gallons out of carelessness, but gallons will sell this week because WIC (Women, infants, and children nutrition program) will pay for gallons, but not for half gallons.

I have three questions for you. If the program was changed to allow half gallons, would the 32% cut in government spending be immoral because it requires recipients to accept two half gallons instead of a gallon of milk?

Second, the people who know these programs best are the people who directly benefit from them. How often do we hear from program beneficiaries demanding the the programs be changed because they are wasteful of taxpayer dollars?

Are bishops or politicians who measure concern for the poor by the amount of money spent aware of this?

Many of the programs designed to help the poor are both wasteful and actually harmful when they foster dependence instead of addressing the causes of poverty, even if that means that poor people must change their own destructive behaviors that cause poverty.

Where I live, the price of a half gallon is more than 50% of a gallon, so you never save by buying half gallons. But if you could accomplish the same goal with less money that would be good. Of course a cash transfer is always preferred to in kind transfers, since some people may not like milk.

Most of the time half gallons of milk are more than 50% of the gallon price here, too. The easy solution is to change WIC vouchers to specify one gallon or two half gallons, whichever is less. It would also be a small lesson in teaching program participants to shop smarter. I would always prefer a cash benefit also, but the program was designed so parents could not give young children soda instead of milk.

I agree there is a lack of incentives, other than the moral duty to love the people who pay taxes to support them. I can still remember the 60 Minutes program that exposed Medicare fraud where a medical supply company billed for three artificial legs for the same patient, who incidentally, still had two perfectly good natural legs. Way too many people will tolerate stealing from a huge government as long as it does not seem to hurt them personally. It is another reason to make government smaller, closer to the people it serves, and more accountable.

Not often at all. So I will say this. I received what I felt to be too much. So when they briefly kicked it back 25%, I was happy to see it go. No sooner after this happened, they kicked it back up because of heating costs to my PA room.
Are you confused by this? So was I! What on earth is the connection?!!

Just for the record, I was concerned. When I received what I thought to be an extra payment, it was immediately brought to the appropriate attention and was told all was well. Bought a lot of non perishable food, as I have no usable kitchen.

I wish there was more incentive, for sure…
