(CNN)The US surpassed 2 million confirmed coronavirus cases Wednesday night as new hotspots emerge and hospitalizations go up in some states.

More than 112,000 people have died from Covid-19 nationwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The spike in numbers highlights how complicated it is to stop the spread of the virus despite early hotspots such as New York and New Jersey seeing improved numbers.

Since Memorial Day, the number of coronavirus hospitalizations has gone up in at least a dozen states, according to data CNN aggregated from the Covid Tracking Project between May 25 to June 9. They are Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. An additional 22 states are trending downward while nine others are holding steady.

So given that there are probably many people who have had it, recovered and not been tested are we looking at a morbidity rate well below 0.5?

Yup, media hysteria pushed our idiot politicians to spend $3 TRILLION of our children’s money and temporarily devastate our national economy for a virus that has infected a little over one half of one percent of our population.

Would that not make the American rate 10 times better than the global rate?
American stats were included in the global rate stat.
Today over 2 million known infections and I read 114 K deaths in USA.
The USA still has the highest infection rate globally and the rate is still rising in 20 states.

I am interested to see what happens with the protests and now Trump is resuming the political rallies.

114k / 2 million is a morbidity of a little over 0.05.

Considering the likely bias in testing for those having COVID, doesn’t that put the likely morbidity rate at well under 0.05?

Yes.
With the USA stats I am at a lets wait and see where they head in the next couple of months after this all settles down, but then , with the campaign rallies starting up again, I think we are going to have to wait out summer and autumn.
I also wonder if those who are attending these mass gatherings will all be tested. If tested and positive but only mild cases, its going to push that rate right down under the one you have now.

There is a recent case of two hairdressers who are both positive and had over 140 clients, no incidence of spread.
@graciew has a study on another thread I am trying to get back to that suggests USA has a milder form, or that the virus is getting aclimatised to the human population and losing its sting. so to speak.

There is a protestor in Australia that attended their protests while positive, that is a nice little petri dish experiment

For the place where I work they’ve already decided we won’t be physically located in the office for 2020. In early 2021 they will assess whether or not we can physically return. But Working from home is going to be the new norm even then.

I don’t know if this is the same person, but I know of an incident of a hairdresser that was showing symptoms that saw many clients. She is said to have continued to wear a mask while seeing her clients. That may have helped significantly reduce the potential for infection.

Here is the article in Spanish.

The director of the Laboratory if Microbiology ,Hospital San Raffaele de Milán, Massimo Clementi , one of the first line Italian experts in this pandemia, lead a scientific study and found out that the viral load of the SARS-CoV-2 –technical name for new coronavirus– has dimished today being up to 100 times less than in March.Enormously less, he says.
And adds that this phenomena is taking place not only in Italy but all over the world. He mentions Florida as being this same case of dimished load also, where isolation was less strict than in Spain or Italy.
He compared the viral load, concentration of virus, between 100 incoming patients at the beginning of March and 100 incoming at the end of May and this was the result.
Clementi says also that this is happening in patients below and above 65.
It is as the virus were “ ageing” . His words : envejeciendo, becoming old.And remarks that it isn’t mutating but what seems to be adapting to its new host.
He continues to explain how this study is carried out in case anyone would like to read the more technical,
It is visible, he says, and explains how incoming patients do not require urgent ICU from the start as at the beginning of March and makes references to tables and graphs where this can be very visual as he says is clinically visible too.

I found this both interesting and hopeful.
Thank you OurLadyofSorrows for this opportunity to share his findings with you all.

Can we say speculative assumption?

Now here is data based on a few minutes ago.
(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

No speculation. Just real data collected by CDC.

I would just about guarantee that the Protests/Riots/Looting will not cause any increase in Covid-19 infections …

Just as Covid-19, social isolation and stay at home orders were unnecessary during the last couple of weeks. Though the rioters and looters had zero problem wearing masks and appreciated the directive. They do that regardless of pandemics - it merely aides their anonymity when committing crimes. No threats from governors and mayors for the scofflaws to the restrictions. No hang wringing by the media as there was with the protests related to the lock down. Not one admonition to those who were Protesting, Rioting, and Looting that they were potentially killing their grandmas and needed to stay at home. No hand wringing about the African American community being more at risk.

BUT - any uptick will be 50% due to Trump encouraging the reopening of business and allowing people to re-enter life. The other 50% will be because Trump resumed campaign rallies … So days the two each be blamed for 100% each … so 200% of the fault will be Trump’s fault.

As a general rule it would.
And this isn’t politics sincerely. It is behavioural observation and the amount of virus circulating there as well. Were it US or elsewhere …

At what cost?
For how long?
So you find looting advisable in the search of herd inmunity?
Or just trolling if I may ask, gam197?

Looting and robbery is another issue, that is for police and law enforcement. Just tired of all the hype about this virus with numbers, always the numbers and glad that herd immunity will finally kick in.

I understand. We are all tired in one way or another and the race may be long

You’re very welcome. Any further comment, analysis, opinion, I ll be glad to hear about it whenever you have time.

There was a great deal of politics involved in the stay at home / shutdown orders … from January when Trump issued the China travel ban - the entire response became politicized …

That’s why the Mayor of Chicago can close hair salons - but have a salon opened just for her to get her hair cut and styled 👍
Thats why Governor Cuomo can have a snitch line for those violating the rules - but not enforce it against his own COVID-19 positive brother who left quarantine, seen without a mask and with others … and then miraculously came up from the basement for the first time a week later. 😳
Thats why a California State Health Director could take his family to the closed California Beaches during Spring break - it was not crowded at all 🤣
Or that governor who could get a jewelry store opened so she could make that vitally important to health and safety 'essential service" jewelry purchase 🤬

All while the average person - depending on locality - cannot mow their yard. get cancer treatments, purchase seeds for a garden … stuck at home but unable to purchase materials for Home “fix-it” projects, no work, no school, no church, no play grounds, no fishing, no boating, etc … Marijuana and booze are essential goods but not that car seat or new pair of shoes,
