US officials knew Libya attack was terrorism within 24 hours, sources confirm

U.S. intelligence officials knew within 24 hours of the assault on the U.S. Consulate in Libya that it was a terrorist attack and suspected Al Qaeda-tied elements were involved, sources told Fox News – though it took the administration a week to acknowledge it.

The account conflicts with claims on the Sunday after the attack by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice that the administration believed the strike was a “spontaneous” event triggered by protests in Egypt over an anti-Islam film.

Two senior U.S. officials said the Obama administration internally labeled the attack terrorism from the first day in order to unlock and mobilize certain resources to respond, and that officials were looking for one specific suspect.

I never know what the truth is and hearing it on the tv or reading it in the paper is still not good enough for me. I want honesty when possible, but more importantly, I want the people who represent us in other countries safe. If information is withheld to keep others safe I would be O.K. with it. Politics should never play a role in what we hear on these matters because I have noticed the truth will generally come out.

That’s the usual SOP with any Administration - need to know. The criteria may be high or low, but it determines when to release information.

I would not even be that mad about withholding information if it is a matter of national security and lives are involved. That is something that I feel is the responsibility of the President.

But lying about what really happened, specifically announcing publicly that it WASN’T terrorism when it was, goes beyond withholding. That starts a cover up. That is wrong.

I believe this was first reported early yesterday morning in an article at The Daily Beast. Then, according to the NY Times, Hillary Clinton later admitted that there was an al-Qaeda link at a special UN meeting. So I guess it’s now finally being confirmed.

You know it, it seems negligent and careless the way the administration has acted.

regardless of the fact that it is campaign season, Pres. Obama needs to remember he has responsibiilities that come BEFORE campaigning!

And that includes NOT ignoring terrorism reports or saying it had to do with something else (internet video) when he needed to tell the truth (terrorism, and they knew about it, even days before!)

Didn’t notice this story on American news. Guess it is now open season on US embassy staff.

WHAT PART OF THE REPEATED LIE DO I NOT BELIEVE? The President’s part, the Secretary of State’s part, and the President’s Press Mouthpiece, plus whatever lying lips carry Obama’s “truth” to the American people. Of course when it is repeatedly stated officially the terrorist attack was really a popular outburst of dislike for a U-tube video, that somehow the U.S. is responsible for, and humbly begs for forgiveness…well, who could doubt that! Its not like its the first time the President has apologized for America and our Constitution. The contempt that is revealed by this elected President for the American people is downright deserving of his dismissal. If he repeats his untruth enough times, perhaps he can convince some to believe. The sorriest sad facts are that our American Ambassador was horribly slaughtered along with three more fine Americans in the performance of their duties. The planned terrorist attacks on their favorite September 11th “day to remember” were just spontaneous protests - NOT! This lie is dangerous and was invented by Obama to distract the American people from concluding his failure to perform as President would finally tip his attempt to be re-elected. He should send his resume to the “View”, maybe he can get a spot there.

well, his appearance on The View happened recently - not within 24 hours of the death of the ambassador and 3 others. what was shocking was that the day after we heard of the attacks he flew off to Las Vegas after giving a very brief news conference and not talking any questions. so campaigning took precedence over what happened in Benghazi.
but somehow, Obama is forgiven. his supporters don’t seem bothered by that. they are able to overlook these shortcomings and would have been screaming loudly if GWB had exhibited the same behavior. he always gets a free pass.

Our politcians to admire are ones like Michelle Bachmann. One really has to question if this administration is capitulating to Muslim extremists. The new Blaze TV had a special on this laying things out.
