I love this Mimi! Couldn’t be more spot on! What a wonderful gift God gave us in Bishop Sheen. (up for canonization) I think part of the problem came in in the previous generation when the prevailing attitude was " The Parish Priest and especially Bishop’s word was law. People seemed to do exactly what the clergy told them as they WERE CHURCH LAW so to speak. Total trust given to them. Only when dissent became obvious, and only when people started to think for themselves did this start to change.

We do have an obligation to respect our clergy, but we also, according to scripture, have the obligation to hold them accountable for dissenting guidance. And we will be judged on this! Some people I have even witnessed on these forums, that have the “don’t dare question the clergy” attitude. Very dangerous. I don’t want to be standing before Jesus some day trying to defend apathy in confronting heresy.:nope:

I have tried writing to Raymond Arroyo at EWTN, but still no answer. I want to know if they are planning on doing an expose on these groups. EWTN and the Catholic League would be the ones to help counter.

In the meantime, I am so sorry for the good people who are being duped, and the priests and bishops who knowingly go along with it (leftist groups disguised as interfaith social justice groups).

I’m gonna go pray my rosary now.

I just received my new issue of NOR and it reiterates the message of the last two posts. I can’t send a link, so I’ll just quote from the article, “Louder than Words.” (Emphasis added are mine.)

In response to the rising scandal (they are speaking of the ACORN funding,) Bishop Morin (chairman of the bishops’ subcommittee that oversees CCHD) said in a November press release that CCHD did not give funds to ACORN in 2008 and did not accept requests for 2009. His subcommittee, he said “in keeping with its guidelines, ended all funding to ACORN at its recent meeting.” That potato just got too hot. Time and again it has been proven that the bishops’ primary motivator is bad press.

A statement from the Oregon-based Voice of Catholics Advocating Life claims that CCHD has long funded organizations with missions “diametrically opposed” to that of the Catholic Church, including, in the 1990s, the Nat’l Organization of Women and the ACLU. Was that “in keeping with its guidelines?” ** Once more, lay clamoring in the media forced the bishops’ hand in the funding of these groups**.

Good work, guys……let’s keep up the pressure! And may the enemies within the Church that we love so much, be silenced!

Re-read some of this thread and noticed I made an error – Michael MORELAND should be Michael MORWOOD.

I also wrote to Catholic Answers radio program, and they did subsequently have something on about “interfaith organizing” and Alinsky, but this needs to be taken much more seriously and I think they should have someone on who has been a part of one of these groups and resigned after they saw what they were really about. (Ahem; I rec’d NO response.)

JOB is still trying to get established and gain support from Catholic parishes here. But their prez has lost her PA job due to reports of her teaching non-Catholic stuff over the past 10 years or so. AND it’s been found she’s a member of Call to Action, but no surprise there considering they are the group who is behind getting these Alinsky-style organizations started and getting their claws into the Church.

They get enough support, get more Catholics to buy into their “we’re helping the poor” and, especially in the area of health care – which will necessarily include artificial birth control and abortion (and eventually euthanasia) – BAM – they’ve got us. We cannot allow them to gain a further foothold.

And you faithful Catholics out there where this hasn’t started yet, warn your friends and relatives in other states, esp. if they are politically liberal ones (like WI, IL, WA, CA, NM; it’s really big in NM). Send articles from Catholic Media Coalition. www.catholicmediacoalition.org

Oh, BTW, further discussion of JOB has been “indefinitely tabled” if I haven’t mentioned it previously here (might have been on a different forum). This group has caused so much strife and division (to those who are active in the parish and care what’s going on).

Working with groups outside Roman Catholicism is a reality in today’s world. I suppose Rome should not work with Muslim groups on the international scene who oppose abortion. Working with them does not imply complete agreement. It’s a strategic position where one forms and/or joins coalitions to promote like interests.

ACORN before its demise a number of years ago because of embezzlement, etc. has done some very good things. Unfortunately, it went astray years ago because of embezzlement. Thank goodness there are other community organizing groups like PICO who will take up the baton and carry on the good work that ACORN was initially formed to do…
