In less than a couple of weeks from now, Catholic parishes throughout the U.S. will be asking us to donate to the USCCB’s Campaign for Human Development.

This organization does not pass on our contributions to any Catholic organizations serving the poor. In fact, for well over a decade, our collective Catholic bishops have been giving a portion of our donations to ACORN – over a million dollars just this past year.

I ask that you do NOT contribute to the HDC – please throw the offering envelope away, and please encourage your fellow Catholics to do the same.

Saw today on EWTN that folks were sending in acorns in those envelopes. Please Lord open the eyes of the bishops to their spending. Lord have mercy.

In the past our small, neighborhood, low-income housing development corporation has received financial help from this fund. We have used the money to help build sweat-equity housing, utility bill assistance, food pantry, etc.

I would be interested in seeing the line-item budget for the fund to determine if I will give this year. Perhaps, those who administer the fund could be persuaded by letters, petition, or email to be more discriminating with the funds.

I just got word of this! I think it definitely warrants taking a closer look.

Transparency is important in these organizations. Also, I think we can trust Fr. Neuhaus to give us the straight line on the CHD.

I would also direct anyone to see my post on JOB: Justice Overcoming Borders. THis is a community organization whose founding group is the Gameliel Foundation (started by Saul Alinsky – that name ring any bells out there?? No? Read my post and follow the links). It is being pushed in our parish and their motives are not friendly toward the “radical right”, like pro-lifers.

As for transparency – what a joke. We Catholics don’t even know which organizations receive our contributions to the U.S. bishops (and they are NOT Catholic organizations).

At Bishop meeting it was revealed that money did not go to Catholic groups, truth was not said that direct. One Bishop made the comment about Catholic group in his area that was told no due to being a Catholic group. ans: to him was that is not in the rules that it is up to broad to direct money. My question is who is on the broad? Can anyone find a list of the groups who DID recieve money in 2007-2008 bu national group. Money is divided 75% national 25% local bishop broad.

It’s just getting started here, so I don’t know. Also, I’m not interested in becoming involved in it. The president of this organization is also a Pastoral Assoc. I’m of the opinion that clergy and people who work for the diocese should not be involved in this because of its true goals and roots in radical activism.

I am extremely picky about what I donate to. Other than my parish, I will donate to specific organizations/religious orders, to my parish, and to my diocese- but that’s pretty much it.

The CCHD is involved with funding leftist liberal partisan politics. **There have been many other threads started that have some great links in explaining this. Do research not only on ACORN, but also the Gamaliel Foundation, which touts many socialistic themes. They are also of the “Liberation Theology” group which would love to advance Marxist ideology.

Like the poster above, we have written a letter explaining in great detail why we will not be giving to them this year. That letter will go in the collection box in lieu of a donation. We will give, instead, to a charity of our choice and have told them this.

If enough of us do this, they, possibly will get the message.

It’s impossible to know for sure. My guess is that some bishops have been deceived.

Others who are not deceived have not yet developed the courage to confront their brother bishops in public.

A few bishops lead their diocese to dontribute little or nothing to the CCHD. Praise God for them, and may many others follow.

ALREADY BEEN THERE…DONE THAT! I thought a letter would be more effective than dropping an acorn in the collection basket!
