One can be reassuring without necessarily resorting to false claims, it leads to a false sense of security, i.e., claiming that London is the safest city in the world in light of the many attacks she has endured, just does not sit well with me,

p.s. You all can disagree with me, but that is how I feel on the matter.
Especially since the last attack was only two weeks ago!

OTOH, what would one expect a mayor of a major, populous city to say: that the city is in imminent peril, thus possibly causing widespread panic? Part of a mayor’s job, I think, is to reassure the public that the city’s administration is making every effort to ensure its safety.
So to kiss their citizens with a lie rather then slap them with the truth. It wouldn’t cause “hysteria” this isn’t a packed burning theater where your logic would be applicable,no, this is a city and a nation, if the British population did start to panic as well they should! About their looming demographic change, which will only increase attacks like this one on both scale and frequency, then maybe come election day they’d vote UKIP which means of course the mayor won’t address the severity of their situation.

This sounds like underestimating the capacity of the people in London to understand what they are going through in their own flesh.
Life needs to go on,it goes on.
And it seems his people understood. the message. That is what is important.
They do not need extra burdens but reassurance to carry on as normally as possible…
I totally agree with Metzlerboy.
.

Interesting coincidence. Several hrs before the attacks, there was a large disturbance in Barking, which led to police being injured and a section of the area being placed on lockdown. This is the same area where police arrested 12 people suspected of being connected to the attacks. Strangely, I can’t seem to find anything except vague details regarding exactly what happened in Barking hrs before the terror attacks.

Very well said, and in light of everything that is happening in England, I think it’s rather apropos to be alarmed.

I know I’ll be criticized for this, possibly anyways, but I’m pretty sure that Churchill was considered an alarmist too, prior to Hitler’s rise and World War II. It is notable that even then Churchill had some rather prophetic things to say about Islam.

However, to paraphrase the late Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, VP candidate who ran together with Michael Dukakis in 1988, Donald Trump is no Winston Churchill.

Why do say that he claimed " that London is the safest city in the world "?
I that he said: “one of the safest cities in the world”?

What are you data on safety?
Why do you think his claim and the sense of security it gives is false?

What did he say that was a lie?
What do you think is the truth that should have been said?
What you have said in that role that the mayor did not say?

No, he later spoke of London being the safest city in the world, and no, I have no data, except that which I read in the News, i.e., it seems that London and England as a whole are being targeted by terrorists (and sex grooming “asian” gangs, aka, Pakistani and Bangledeshi Muslims). I would be hard-pressed to believe that it is the safest city in the world.

Do you believe that London is the safest city in the world?

p.s. I heard what he said at the vigil, and I am much happier with what he said, not that he cares. 😃

London might be a safer place if all of its police were armed, as well as some of its citizens.

Churchill was ridiculed for his views, they do have that in common, until, of course, they did come true, and he was able to prove how great he was. 😉

Yes and Chamberlain went down in history as someone very naive.

True, Churchill was not the darling of the British people at first. But wasn’t he a young man at the time? Trump is now 70; when will his views become more palatable to most of the public in the U.S.?

I can hardly believe I’m actually comparing Trump to Churchill.

I can understand the reluctance.
