Thanks Lizzie ! The culperts were NOT Southern. I deal with as much prejudice for being Southern as I do for being Catholic.

I hope you have noted that the MSM have done much to fabricate news about the South.

In 1996 PBS, USAToday and all the rest fraudulently claimed that racist whites were burning black churches throughout the South.

As a Catholic and an adopted Southerner, I find Southern Baptists much more kindly and neighborly than the chi-chi New Yorkers who excused the multitude of assaults and desecrations upon Catholic churches by radio radicals or gay activists.

It was a NYC radio station that ‘hired’ anti-Catholic perverts to have public sex in front of worshippers at Mass in a Catholic church.

ACT-UP, a major gay activist group, desecrated NYC’s St Patricks Cathedral with vile and disgusting acts.

All I can say about this is that I am damn lucky I moved South and was able to raise my children in a more genteel society.

Our pastor talked about this incident in his homily on Sunday.
Our pastor told us that he wrote the Pastor of the Alabama church to tell him that there is a Federal Law (but I can’t remember which statute, or citation number), that these vandals can be Federally Prosecuted and CAN BE put in jail for 5 years or More.
It has something to do with interrupting a religious service.
If someobody knows more about this statute, comment about it here.

Goes under hate crimes, correct?

And, good thing that statue didn’t land on anyone.

It has been several years but St. Pauls an Episcopal Parish in Southern WV had its stained glass windows shot out several different times. On one or two occasions signs were spray painted on the front doors that indicated that the perpetrators thought that in celebrating the Mass Episcopalians were practicing canibalism. One of my chemists told me one day when we were calling on of our customers that his baptist minister had told his congregation that since we think we are making actual factual physical contact with the risen Lord in the Eucharist that we in fact think we are eating the body and blood of Christ so we are at least in our hearts and minds committing canibalism. When the ignorant persecute anyone they are in fact persecuting us all.

Peace be with you,

I just hope any Church/Diocese will take this action and prosecute in Federal Court, since we DO have this legislature and tool at our use.

Any way we perhaps can pursuade them to do so? Perhaps a well written letter (or several) saying its time for this to stop?

There is a lot of hate by Protestants in the South. Hate of Jews. Hate of Blacks. Hate of Catholics. When the state supreme court chief justice, Roy Moore, who is now going to run for governor, put the granite monument with the ten commandments on it in the center of the court house, many Catholics supported him. Most Jewish people opposed him. The jews realize that at first these actions are against the non-Judeo-Christians, then they’ll be against the non-Christians, then they’ll be against the non-protestants, and finally they’ll be against the non-fundamentalist protestants.

Someone above mentioned that the press used a lot of protestant terminaology in describing the desecration in the Catholic Mass. They may have gotten some of that from the members of the parish themselves, although I don’t know for sure. I have noticed in Alabama that many non-protestant churches try to blend in.

For example, sadly, one of the Jewish congregations in northern Alabama didn’t have their first Bar Mitzvah until around 1948. The congregation had been formed and had a synagogue in the mid or late 1800s. The reason that hey hadn’t had a Bar Mitzvah in all of those decades was that they correctly realized that they had to blend in and “look like” the other churches which of course were Protestant fundamentalists.

It is very sad.

So are you really saying that parts of the south are not anti-Jewish, Catholic, black, etc? Well, you are the one who is sadly mistaken if that is the case. Between 1989 and 1991, I was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. We became friendly with the neighbors. When they found out we were Catholic, they were shocked. They tried to convert us, then shunned us. You see, all Catholics are basically worshippers of Satan.

What it comes down to, you may not have experienced southern bigotry, but many of us have.

I am a Catholic who has lived in the Bible Belt for almost 40 years. My non-Catholic neighbors and former co-workers are kind and generous.

Fundies do evangelize. Catholics should, too. Did you invite them to your church?

I just thought I should state a similar incendent happened last Friday at St. Dominic’s in Cedar Grove, Florida except not as violent. A man dressed as a priest( I have no idea why he was dressed as one) was getting up and moving around frantically from seat to seat in mass and everyone kind of ignored him. Then in after the homily he stood up and screamed in a bellowing voice about how the Church was the devil and we were all going to hell. Luckily the younger priest was at this mass( It would have been horrible if our older priest had to deal with it). The deacon started singing Alleluia and drowned him out so he stormed out of the Church. The priest told my grandfather and another usher to call the police and get his tag number. Fortunatley they got his tag number and police found him swerving erratically from lane to lane. This was relayed to me by my grandparents and I don’t know if the Church will try and press charges for something.

This is considered the bible belt and the protestants here spend more time trying to convert us than they do worshipping. It’s really sad.

From the above link:
“I hope no one got hurt. That wasn’t our intention. But we had a message to deliver. We delivered it,” says Turgeon.
The problem with messages like this they are open to interpretation. What did the vandals expect memebers of the parish to do? Collectively smack themselves on the forhead in realization of their “error”? Whatever.

Pretty much the message that was received is that there are people who are ignorant and rude enough to do this.

If these losers need an example of a how having a “vision” should work and how to effectively deliver a message I would point them in the direction of Guadelupe for example.

Mercy granted in altar attack
Morgan DA honors wishes of members of Catholic church

**By Sheryl Marsh **

Annunciation of The Lord Catholic Church parishioners asked Morgan County District Attorney Bob Burrell to have mercy on defendants who attacked their church altar, and he did. Adam Joseph Turgeon and his girlfriend, Lisa Marie Wagner, will take turns doing jail time on split sentences.

Naaah! It isn’t a hate crime. You can only commit a hate crime against Jews, Moslems, Homosexuals and non-whites.

Catholics aren’t a protected class. It appears you can commit any premeditated crime of hate you want against Catholics and it could never be considered a hate crime. It is painfully obvious you can bash and trash all things Catholic.

Just watch…They’ll get off with some kind of slap of the wrist.
I would predict a small fine, and maybe some probation. Think what would have happened in the press if this was a black Baptist church. It would have been on CNN in no time.

It depends on why the people were storming the church as to the likelihood of TV news coverage. If they came in screaming racial slurs at a congregation of any race other than their own, then yes the news might cover it because it would get more ratings. The same thing would happen if someone came in with a racially motivated attack on a Catholic parish that was predominantly black, so what is your point? That in your opinion Baptists get more national TV news coverage or that blacks do? What does that have to do with the desecration of this particular Catholic church anyway since they clearly did get media coverage or we would not know about the story?

Since the priest and parishioners asked for leniency for the suspects, of course they are not going to federal prison or something that serious. Prosecutors often respect the wishes of the victims which in this case was a generous offer of mercy.
