Socialist regime? Perhaps you are thinking of Venzuela? Mexico has a very similiar governmental system to the US except I believe the president serves only one 6 year term, no reelection possible. It is a representative republic and the recent elections put in a new president a gentleman who is conservative, very much so to 2nd place alternative. They had a bit of a recount, protests, situation very close to the Bush/Gore recount and controversy including it being the conservative that came out on top. In their House of Representatives (ironically called something like the House of Disputes) there was actual fist fighting due to this very close, and to many Mexican’s views rigged, election results just before the time they did the switch of presidency ceremony.Exactly! Where is the Cardinals’ indignation against the repressive socialist regime in Mexico that keeps so many of its people in dire poverty?
Now, there is corruption in their representative government, that is true. I do believe the Vatican has and does speak out against that problem in Mexico and other latin-american nations.
