Full disclosure.

The following is a TRANSLATION (Google Chrome) from Italian to English from InfoVaticana.

The Vatican denies that the Pope denied the divinity of Jesus Christ

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

By INFOVATICANA | October 10, 2019

The denial took place at the end of the press conference this morning in the Stampa Hall of the Vatican, on the occasion of the summary of today’s sessions of the Amazon Synod.

The prefect of the Holy See Communication, Paolo Ruffini said that “the Holy Father never said what Scalfari writes”, referring to the article by Scalfari, which we realized yesterday, in which he affirmed that Pope Francis had told him that Jesus of Nazareth was a man of exceptional virtue, but not at all a God.

The phrase of Ruffini, and holding the position he has, as prefect of the dicastery of the Vatican communication, if it can be considered a denial to the publication of the Italian journalist.

It was different yesterday, when Matteo Bruni, director of the Sala Stampa issued a statement, which did not seem like a clear denial, in which he said: “as has been stated on other occasions, the words that Dr. Eugenio Scalfari attributes in quotes to the Holy Father during the colloquies that he has had with him, cannot be considered as a faithful account of what he has said, but they represent a personal and free interpretation of what he has heard, as it seems quite evident from what is written today. about the divinity of Jesus Christ. "

.

I will be watching closely and carefully for further developments on this story.

There will probably be more coming out.

If Pope Francis wants to put an end to the confusion and scandal this atheist brought upon his name, Francis ought to recite the Athanasian Creed to erase all doubt in people’s mind.
Exactly! One 👏 hundred 👏 percent 👏

I would go so far as to say that he has a grave duty to do so!

Pray for the Holy Father, for one thing that he stops giving this man interviews. I think most of us would not continue to give interviews to someone who continually misquotes us and the misquotes are to the point of scandal.

I pray this is his last interview with this man.

AND he does not keep notes of his interviews, but reconstructs them from memory. It is also said he applies “creative reinterpretation” to his interviews.

Not keeping a record of your own interviews is not only stupid, but in my opinion grossly unprofessional. I am not aware of any attorney who does not, as an example, note down the testimony of witnesses in court he intends to examine.

Pope Francis recites the Creed daily at Mass. Doesn’t that count?

The Athanasian creed is more fleshed out. Besides it would be more poetic for Pope Francis to recite that creed in response to the accusations that he is an Arian. The Pope chastising this atheist and the doubters during one of his public appearances, outside of mass, will prove definitely that he takes his office and responsibilities as Pope seriously and doesn’t treat his duty as “just a job”.

Unless he says it loud and clear, you don’t know what he believes in his heart. Anyone can go through the motions during mass.
edit: there are even priests who don’t believe in the real presence. He must clarify for the sake of his flock.

I would like to see pope Francis address this by telling us more about the conversation from his viewpoint. It would be great to hear pope Francis state what he said and the general context of the conversation and explain perhaps how the journalist made his mistake in misunderstanding the pope.

I expect it was a mistake from the journalist because if it was a deliberate slander then he should be criticized by the Vatican and never granted an interview again. If it was a mistake then I would very much like to hear Francis give his theological understandings on the matter and explain where the journalist misunderstood. It would seem to be a great opportunity for our Holy Father to use this as a teaching exercise to showcase the Catholic faith to the world.

If you were the pope, wouldn’t you feel incredibly worried and guilty and bad if you had misled any Catholic, any Christian, anyone at all in the world who read any of the twaddle that Scalfari says? Wouldn’t you personally assure the faithful about what you actually believe and what the church teaches?!

Pope Francis says the Creed loud and clear at each Mass.

Doubts that the Pope takes being Pope seriously , and believes ‘its just a job’ for a member of the clergy, will not be quenched by reciting a different creed, especially given we can watch each Mass live streamed.

I would recommend watching the documentaries about his life and especially discovering why and what he did to become known widely as

‘Bishop of the Slums’

A bishop, an Archbishop, taking Mass into the slums, and taking reluctant clergy with him. Argentina was a dangerous place for much of his ministry.

How do we know a Priest is ‘serious’ about confecting the Eucharist,

watch how he does this, and handles the Body and Blood of Christ.

That is a good indication of belief in the Divinity of Christ.

ETA: it took me all of 2 minutes to find multiple quotes by the Holy Father that directly contradicted the claim. A reporter should have done that in order to discredit the accusation.
Could you possibly share some of these quotes, particularly any that are recent?

(this is not meant as an accusation or skepticism–simply that it’d be useful to have them)

Again, it doesn’t take an enormous amount of physical exertion to clarify what he believes for the sake of his flock. People will be led astray over this, and God will hold him accountable if he remains ambiguous about his beliefs.

How can people be led astray? The Pope celebrates Mass daily. Watch him elevate the Eucharist.
The Pope is not ambiguous in his beliefs. It is pretty obvious where he stands. I would say to people stop reading fake news and actually watch the Pope, it is easy to do so these days. Tune into Vatican Radio.

Whatever happened to ‘fake news’? Do we only apply it to secular politics?

Those who believe the Holy Father was quoted correctly will never believe this article.
Especially when LifeSite, Church Militant and even some EWTN personalities continue to report false narratives and their own agendas.

It is truly disgusting the way some, even on this forum, try to paint the Holy Father as some sort of radical heretic, bent on destroying the Church. 😡

I think you are right, if people would watch the Pope, listen to more what he says, and study the faith they would not be led astray. Problem is in our world today, there is so much news, social media and information everywhere most people will just read the headlines and go on or just read it from a Tweet and go on. The comment more than likely won’t affect people who are strong in the faith but those that are weak or outside the Church. It will be an excuse for them to stay away.

I don’t believe Pope Francis said it but I think for those who are weak and won’t read whole articles or study the faith or watch him at Mass, I pray he himself would make a clarification.

It is disgusting.

Those who continuously seek to defame the Vicar of Christ will have to answer for that.

Why do some people believe it?
Because of all the confusing things he has said, allegedly true or not, to an atheist friend who is a journalist, who conveniently doesn’t take notes.
Because of all the confusing things he has said on planes.
Because he has insulted Catholics of a more “traditional” bent.
It’s not like this is the first or only thing that Pope Francis is reputed to have said, that makes everyone say “Oh no, he couldn’t have said that, or he couldn’t have meant it”.
