Vatican hopes secret files exonerate 'Hitler's pope'

Pope Pius does not need to be exonerated. The correct historical information has been out there for quite some time. The book titled Hitler’s Pope by John Cornwell is the source of much of the public misperception of Pius. The book has been almost universally discredited as dishonest. This includes the New York Times!! When the Times speaks against a critic of the Church, you know something is fishy. This includes an altered cover photograph that I believe the publisher was shamed into removing. The author himself was forced to publicly disavow his own research and conclusions.

In general PTWF is a worthy cause.

As an Orthodox Jew, I am personally offended when anyone refers to Pope Pius XII as “Hitler’s Pope”. So far, the evidence clearly shows that he was responsible for saving more Jews than anyone else- possibly more than everyone else combined.

I hope that soon he will get the recognition and thanks that he deserves.

Interesting, i never heard about this. He doesn’t sound delusional in his statement, but rather a person stunned by what he saw.

Yes, Pope Pius is admirable, sometimes we must stand for justice and not let people intimidate us, as sinful as they may be in our eyes.

The most basic characteristic of any religious person should be recognizing the good that someone does for you and being thankful for it. This is the whole idea of prayers and blessings to G-d. It is similar with man as well.

It is Pope Pius XII who deserves the recognition and blessings for his actions, which certainly endangered him as well. All we can do is try to publicize the truth about what he did.

I remember some parts of your posts, YKohen, and now that I am finally being able to cut down on work, was wanting to go back to read them, but did not remember exactly your CAF name here.

I was a little surprised of your position of Pius, and it gives me deeper insight into your past writings here. They came across as very professional enabling comparatives with Catholic ecclesiology and doctrines.

My father never wanted us to forget the Holocaust and we watched many of the old WWII historicals on television. I went through ‘The Black Book of Poland’ when I was in third grade, but I also sensed my guardian angel asking me if I should ask my parents first before reading it. I did incur some trauma from it.

My uncle worked in intelligence during WWII and went incognito behind enemy lines into Nazi and Soviet lines; he worked in encryptology after the war having studied Russian and Chinese. He could not say much of anything, but the perspective of our dinner conversations as a family were on a level that helped us seek truth with the disinformation power causes.

The Irish nuns in grade school would challenge us and ask us if would deny Christ…would we deny helping someone in need who needed to be sheltered? I wasn’t sure as it all frightened me alot seeing what happened to people in WWII. I have to always pray for strength of faith and not be afraid of power people. And be open to shelter someone in need some day.

Likewise we were made aware of and prayed for the Orthodox in Russia, how so many were turned over by their own children for having a bible in their home. So many Slavs killed by both Nazis and Communists.

I think the Soviet Union and its communist allies got away with with alot for its murders exceeding that done by the Nazis by disinformation against the Church and the USA, keeping the focus on our own foibles.

Pius was particularly afraid of the Communists. Pave the Way documents that the spin on Pius was started by the Soviet Union, and that there Romanian priests who infiltrated the Vatican attempting to get secret documents…that really affirmed Pius, and to twist them around to make out he did little. But they were caught and expelled.

There are even beliefs that the Communists infiltrated American and Canadian seminaries to ‘protestantize’ and to make the church more relativist and modern and take away its mission to truth and the sanctity of human life. I don’t know if it is true or not, but some people totally believe this.

Anyway, thank you YKohen for your acknowledgement of Pope Pius. I am praying to him as intercessor for some in my family in need of conversion.
 
An article from the Guardian was posted in these pages, seeing how the Guardian has liberal/leftist leanings, I wonder if the Guardian may have led one of the initial charges against the Holy Pontiff to begin with? I think it might be that way.
 
I highly recommend the book “The Myth of Hitler’s Pope”. It is written by a Rabbi. Pope Pius XII did more to save lives in World War Two than any other leader in Europe.

I’m disgusted when anyone suggests otherwise.

I read the Pravda from time to time. I was only answering back to that charge…the American government found out that the percentage of American servicemen who engaged in sex was higher than they thought, 80%

And the fact, having lived overseas myself, the Soviet Union responsible as well for its propaganda machine to label America the enemy of the world, seeing it first hand. I have also noted the effectiveness of their disinformation machine, masters of it. Some of it possibly linked to New Age faculties, as attested by a Josef Terelya.

Likewise it is documented of Soviet soldiers raping women, throwing them off the boxcars while in journey to Siberia.

I think the USSR got off pretty clean. Anything on our country or the Vatican it goes around the world

I have prayed for the people of Russia since a child, especially the Orthodox. Don’t know how many of them have prayed for us. America is in much need of conversion, we promote the lowest sexual moral standards all over the world, along with our pornography, and as a universal Catholic, rape is rape, it is a mortal sin that transcends all boundaries.

My father told me one time that during WW II, the Soviets were our friends. He is of Irish descent.

I used to work in a parish so many miles down the river and right after 9/11, was driving home at night and listening to old radio tapes. One was of a mature woman who was reflecting after WWII.

She was speaking how, in desperation, the worst atrocities and violence were committed by all soldiers during the last stages of the war. And then when it was done, nobody was saying, ‘We won’, but more, ‘Thank God, it is over with.’

War is the punishment for sin.

This was always an interesting question of who exactly voted for Hitler. From my understanding, Rural people voted pretty much as they always did, Christian Democratic. The ones that supported Hitler came from upper middle class regions. Ethnicity did not even play a factor, for the racist rhetoric was nothing new. What these classes feared the most was the communists and socialists eager to confiscate their wealth, and Hitler was an attractive figure as someone strong enough to hold them at bay.
I haven’t visited the site, but I have attended a lecture of someone who did the research.

We used to have prayers after every Mass for the conversion of Russia. But, we don’t do that any more … “post Vatican II”]

There are two 2012 books that may be of interest:

“Operation Snow: How a Soviet Mole in FDR’s White House Triggered Pearl Harbor” by John Koster … which uses both Venona and hitherto unavailable Japanese sources. Extensive index and a chapter at the rear of the book on “A Note On Sources”.

“Stalin’s Secret Agents: The Subversion of Roosevelt’s Government” by M. Stanton Evans and Herbert Romerstein. Both authors have written extensively on this subject previously and used both FBI and Venona sources.
