I’ve always suspected that we might not be alone in the universe. I mean, I suspect there are more than humans and supernatural beings like angels, demons, etc, in the universe. I don’t, however, believe we are being visited by aliens who abduct people and leave messages in cornfields or whatever. I suspect that any alien life out there has not contacted us, probably doesn’t know we exist, and probably won’t anytime soon.

Yes. I also saw this report:

It doesn’t say much about the religion of aliens, though. If there are aliens, then what will be the status of the teaching on no salvation outside the Church? How will the Church respond to the religion of the extraterrestrial?

It would be kind of funny to have contact with an extraterrestrial and find out they believe in one God…

How would the whole Jesus as savior thing work?

Perhaps it like a Narnia thing…but who knows?

At least there’s room for speculation.

While I don’t necessarily disagree with the notion that there may be other life forms “out there” in the Universe, I do wonder about the use of the word “Vatican” in the headlines of these articles. The implication (to some who read it) is that the Pope, perhaps, has infallibly stated that there is life on other planets.

Again, there may indeed be life on other planets, but the director of the Vatican Observatory, who admits “In my opinion this possibility exists,” is far from an infallible declaration from the Holy Father.

Haven’t you gotten the memo, a lot of churches are using “For us and for our salvation”…see the feminists thought it was a bow to gender inclusive language (GAG) but it was really alien inclusive language. 😉

Yeah, gotcha. That initiative was kind of like someone going north while looking south. If the bible says God created “man”…in his image - “male and female He created them”… then it’s actually the fault of whoever started using the word “man” exclusively in reference to male gender that created the problem for everyone else. Technically we are “male men” and “female men”. But you see the problem when we refer to ourselves this way.

Even more confusing: In Uncle Sam, a letter carrier is also referred to as the “post man”. Up here we can still refer to one as the" mail man." But we also have female letter carriers…so one might also refer to such a person as a “female mail man.”

🤷

Personally, I don’t think there is other intelligent life out there, maybe just other life on other planets. But I’m still really skeptical about that type of thing as well. 🤷 But who are we to say he did or didn’t create other life on other planets!

I’ve heard several theories. One possibility is that an alien race, even if it were intelligent, might only have a natural destiny and therefore no permanent soul. Another theory is that an alien race might not be in a fallen state and would therefore need no redemption. If they are in a fallen state, a third possibility is that Christ’s death and resurrection would still cover them. C.S. Lewis considered the possibility that Christ might have incarnated on other alien worlds to carry out the work for their redemption, if they need it. That was the basis of his Chronicles of Narnia.

Yeah, it would be amusing, because most of the atheists I know assume that any alien life we come in contact with will automatically be atheist. I’ve never understood why they seem to think that.

Well, I’ll have you know that the Klingons of Star Trek are, in fact, human! They are capable of reproducing fertile offspring with humans from Earth, so they can’t be a separate species. Yep, I have no life. 😃

I agree. That assumption makes no sense to me.

Oooo! Good point!! 👍

Alien, they’re a possibility, but I don’t see it as likely. It seems that it would detract from the uniqueness of humanity.

There was a very good book I read in high school (mumble mumble) years ago. It was Dialogues With the Devil by Taylor Caldwell, and it took the form of a series of letters between Satan and Michael. This is one of the topics mentioned in passing and the view expressed there was that humans would not be permitted to contact a non-fallen race. This means that any intelligent species we would encounter would have a fallen nature, meaning we would really have to be careful when dealing with them.

(I just checked the Amazon price for used copies of that book, and now I REALLY wish I could find my copy!)

Such speculation in the Church is worthwhile, for it helps establish the considerations that will help the Church decide how to respond when, after humanity contacts aliens, the first alien approaches a priest and says he wants to be a Catholic.

Star Trek was a family show…so that’s only presumption…no hard proof. Think about it : Klingon morning breath - you could probably bottle it and sell it as paint-stripper; Mr. Warf - a face only a crocodile could love (might be able to play hockey in the nets without a goalie mask though).

The first time you travel to another planet outside the solar system, time measurement changes too. How long are the days? How long are the weeks ?.. that would definitely put a stick in the spokes of the liturgical calendar.

**Matthewd777’**s posted link in this thread is worth a read…tell you why (in my limited opinion)…shows like that,Star Trek, Star Wars etc (although great entertainment) never really try to give a serious take on God; why do you think that is ?

(BTW @ ChristIsTheWay: great sig; I laugh every time I read it.
ps. You do have a life - it’s" hidden in Christ" [thankyou St. Paul])

Such speculation in the Church is worthwhile
Such speculation coming from the Catholic Church is satanic, to promote or allow its members to believe such garbage. The Catholic church ought to heed what Christ Jesus spoke of concerning Gods Holy Words and Gods Holy Words only.
The Bible “is not a science book,” Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes said, adding that he believes the Big Bang theory is the most “reasonable” explanation for the creation of the universe
WOW!!! He admits he does not believe the Bible 😦
Right from Rome. That in itself should remove all doubt for people not sure who or where the false prophet will be or come from:

Revelation 17: 9And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

That dove tails quite nicely with:POPE JOHN PAUL II EMBRACES EVOLUTION!!
cuttingedge.org/n1034.html

The Pope’s message went much further in accepting the theory of evolution as a valid explanation of the development of life on Earth, with one major exception: the human soul. **‘If the human body has its origin in living material which preexists it, the spiritual soul is immediately created by God’, the Pope said." **I do not intend to treat this subject from the aspect of scientific debate, for writers with much greater scientific expertise than I will effectively write about this story from that angle. Rather, I wish to simply point out two succinct facts about this ludicrous statement:

In this statement, the Pope contradicts the current religious teaching of his own Roman Catholic Church!! In the latest “Catechism of the Catholic Church”, published in 1994, we read this teaching on Creation, "Our profession of faith begins with God, for God is the First and the Last, the beginning and the end of everything.

The theory of Evolution is Godless, has been Godless from the beginning, and will always be Godless! It is pure, unadulterated blasphemy for Pope John Paul II to ever have declared evolution is compatible with the Christian faith!!

Sorry but seeing as “aliens” are mentioned nowhere in in scripture I don’t buy it. Satan and his fellow fallen angels are however mentioned, IMHO this is who the “aliens” truly are. The catholic church is a rudderless mess.

If aliens existed, the Bible would say so. Period. I personally believe that any UFOs and aliens people have claimed to encounter are either government aircraft or demons.

Why not? The catholic church is firmly anchored in pagan Babylonian mystery religions. Why not add another un-Biblical belief to the list

BTW:The Pope and down through the “ranks”, in the RCC sure are infallable !!

Well, I, for one, don’t believe in aliens. At least not intelligent aliens with souls. Perhaps alien animals exist on other planets but I personally believe that humans are the only “animals” that exist in the universe with souls.
