Vatican: It's OK for Catholics to Believe in Aliens

I’ve always suspected that we might not be alone in the universe. I mean, I suspect there are more than humans and supernatural beings like angels, demons, etc, in the universe. I don’t, however, believe we are being visited by aliens who abduct people and leave messages in cornfields or whatever. I suspect that any alien life out there has not contacted us, probably doesn’t know we exist, and probably won’t anytime soon.

I always get a kick out of these stories, “Catholics are allowed to believe in blah blah”.
The list of what we are required to believe is fairly short (inspiration of the Bible, Mary’s perpetual virginity, the Immaculate Conception, the Trinity, everything in the Nicene Creed &c, &c). A lot of good stuff we may choose not to believe like Marian apparitions.

Other than that we can believe in aliens, flat earth, the Big Bang (Pius XII did), the Tooth Fairy, all without endangering our souls.

One interesting take on aliens; I read a science fiction novel ages ago (forget title/author) about aliens who were still living in the Garden of Eden, so to speak but contact with humans caused their Fall.
