I’m not lecturing anyone. It was a legitimate question. What biblical basis is there for denying the eucharist to anyone?
If you understood Catholic theology you would not be asking where the biblical basis for anything is . We are not a Sola Scriptura Church. . It has been a teaching of the Church since the Church was first formed that one should not receive the Eucharist when in the state of mortal sin. Church doctrine is is like a three legged stool, based on Scripture, sacred tradition, and the infallible teachings of the magisterium.

Is it not also the case that no teaching is to be adopted which runs contrary to scripture? How are the events of the Last Supper rationalized with excommunication?

Is there a reference to who first taught this?

This has actually been a longstanding matter of interest for me.

More research than I can do sitting on my deck with an IPhone Pethaps someone else can provide it or I will do after the Brewers are finished smShing my beloved Astros

When Archbishops Dolan, Burke, Chaput, and others who are considered conservative and politically “active” simply come out in public and state that they will refuse communion to anyone who publicly encourages abortion, whether or not he or she may be an elected official, there will continue to be outrageous sacrilege and scandal vis-a-vis the Holy Eucharist.
(ETC)
In the meantime, it is the responsibility of the laity in the home dioceses of such politicians and others to make public the teachings of the Church and the relevant falsehoods. We must contact any pro-abortion politician claiming to be Catholic and to explain our outrage at the fact that he or she continues to receive the Holy Eucharist – if we are certain that that be the case. Finally, we must pray for these and all politicians – and for faithful people to replace those who are in error. Times are looking good that we can rid the Congress of many of them in 2012.
Archbishop Burke has clearly stated that “public repentance” is required for pro-abortion politicians and ; and all Bishops must follow the teachings of the Magisterium.

***Archbishop Chaput ***has also stated he will not give Holy Communion to pro-abortion politicians after he has talked to them if they remain obstinate in sin.

Archbishop Dolan is considered ‘liberal’ by most. He was just much better than the other Bishop who ran against him for USCCB President.

Pope Benedict (Cardinal Ratzinger) on Holy Communion, Voting, and being guilty in
formal cooperation in evil.

Try 1 Corinthians 11:27-28:
Whoever, therefore, eats the Bread or drinks the Cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat…
Judas felt remorse later on; and he could have asked our Lord for forgiveness. He would have been forgiven. His worst sin was the sin of despair which drove him to suicide.

These politicians obviously don`t feel remorse by the fact that they have the hide to continue to front up for Holy Communion: compounding their sin. 😦

If they and others reject the truth of the Real Presence: immediately following the above passage, theres this in 1 Corinthians 11:29-30: For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgement upon himself. ***That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died***. Thats strong language!
(A lot of the Corinthians were treating the Mass like a social eat up and drink up.)

You do not mock God!

Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of owr death.

“He who is without sin cast the first stone”!

Holy Mary Mother of God pray for us sinners now and at the hour of owr death.

Peace, Carlan

Hmmm, most interesting !,an hour has gone by since the last post and not even one of the many living saints, here, have come forth to witness…Just as happened with Jesus so long ago.

Under the circumstances I’d say, “Yes, there is hope for us sinners!”

Peace, Carlan

I’m confused in what you are trying to imply, please explain.

Everyone is quick to condemn the sinner without being able to actually read deep into the heart.
We first must take the plank out of our own eye. While it is perfectly legitimate to judge what is sinful and point it out…only God knows the where with all to judge, and does so. Yes?

Peace, Carlan

It is not very hard to look in the heart of somebody who supports unrestricted taxpayer funded abortion on demand and then presents himself for Communion

Not when someone is so publicly defying the Church teachings, it is within reason to admonish the sinner and restrict them from receiving the sacraments. Its not judging what is in their hearts, it is judging them on their public actions that go against all we believe as Catholics and doing what is appropriate for someone to be within a state of grace to receive the Eucharist, in this case, a pro-choice Catholic politician.

I would hope if I ever declared I was sinning in such a public way as the voting record of a pro-choice politician, that someone would have the courage to tell me I needed to reconcile myself to the teachings of my faith before I received the Eucharist. Its not judging, its looking out for the soul of a fellow parishoner.

If you are not called to pray in front of your local abortion mills on a regular basis, why not write to and telephone the Pastors and Bishops of the guilty politicians‘, those you are aware of.
Tell the Pastors to call them out when they see them in line for Communion, and to do it in front of the congregation, and not only the guilty Dems but the guilty the Reps as well.
Lets not kid ourselves, there are serious sinners amongst all of us!
Granted the Church doesn’t punish sinners as in the early years but if they were to start doing it again that way, who knows they might get positive results,🤷

OR, how about we as Catholic voters just not vote them into office.

I do all of the above. In addtion I spent 5 years counsleing in a CPC.The fact , however, that we’re all sinners does not take away from the fact that a pro-abortion politician is giving public scandal when they present themselves for communion. called out on this it seems that false message that his behavior is perfectly acceptable. . We already have a problem with Catholics who believe it is acceptable to support pro-abortion politicians . . Bishops who allow politicians who openly reject the teachings of the church to receive communion make the problem worse.

If a Catholic (in the USA) enslaved people and then told everyone they know that he is actively (not in the past) holding slaves under lock and key–should that person receive Communion in your view?

[for a moment for the illegality of owning people]

We always had great support from our local and national representatives at ourCPC in Houston Texas. . You could always count on Tom Delay for Bill archer to support us when fund-raising time came around and take care of our interest in the Congress, for instance when the Democrats try to regulate CPC’s out of existence out of existence in the mid-90s. George Bush was also very gracious providing us with support for activities. . Unfortunately we didn’t have much luck with local Democrat representatives ,like Sheila Jackson Lee , who bristled at any suggestion that CPC’s had any place dealing with pregnant women in any way whatsoever.
