Not surprising. Then how does a person understand the factions behind the US Civil War?
Miguel there were Masonic members on both sides, serving as soldiers and officers. Several of the highest members in the US lodges served both sides. Including the founder of the KKK. The Civil war, or as we say it, the War of Northern aggression, had many aspects and many objectives. The elimination of slavery was but one aspect, but the one that is most noble, so most used. One should remember that the initial reaction of Mr. Lincoln to the Slavery issue was to repatriate the Blacks to Africa. Control of the Federal Government by the industrialized northern states was behind much of the war. But this is an aside from the original post. The Masonic Lodge, as I have already shown from encyclicals by previous Popes, is anathema to Catholicism.

I am a 4th degree K of C and I haven’t ever seen Masonic influence in any aspect of the KC. Maybe I just don’t look hard enough at it or maybe it doesn’t exist or possibly its inconsequential.
Seems like the KC is continuing to do good work and serve the Church so I am betting that any Masonic influence is negligible.
TexasTech, There have been several joint ventures in my neck of the woods between the KofC and the local Lodges. Sad.

And this:

The Grand Orient de France is not recognized as legitimate Freemasonry; they are basically pretending to be Freemasons. Its the same as a person who decides to set up a chuch and say that its Roman Catholic even though it does not have official status within the Church. Its not really a Catholic Church.
So a gangster isn’t a gangster unless he’s from the Crips?

You must understand that from our perspective, it matters little. We’re not concerned who is or is not part of some canonical umbrella of Freemasonry, but that they adhere to masonic beliefs by word, by action or by association. Figuring out who’s legitimate may be important for the Freemasons, but not for us. In fact, if they were part of “legitimate” Freemasonry we would be more concerned, but it doesn’t make the “illegitimate” ones harmless.

Honestly, if you ask the Jews about the Christians, you would get the same response. They wouldn’t care for our own internal squabbles over which denomination is or is not authentically Christian. In their eyes, we’re all equally wrong. 🙂

That’s the problem; they don’t adhere to masonic beliefs; in fact they are 180 degrees opposite by word or action. However that being said, while Freemasonry does not agree with the church, it nonetheless respects the Church’s position on Freemasonry.

So Freemasonry counsels all her Catholic members to abstain from the sacraments while they are members? And the Catholics are all willing to give up their Christian identity in order to enter the lodge? This thread is about a priest who remained active in ministry: was he a disobedient Freemason who ignored his lodge’s pleas to step down from the priesthood?

No.

No more then those who enter a volunteer fire hall for a meeting where generic prayers are given prior to and the close of meetings…

Freemasonry, while suggesting that its members be steadfast in the faith of their acceptance, leaves it up to the individual member to make their own decisions. The Priest obviously made his. But then again, this Priest was a member of a “make believe lodge”; in other words, it is not a real Masonic Lodge.

In American recognized Freemasonry, what this Priest’s “lodge” may have told him would never occur in mainstream recognized Freemasonry.

Who has the authority to decide if a group is not a legitimate Freemason group? According to Wikipedia: “The Grand Orient de France (GODF) is the largest of several Masonic organizations in France and the oldest in Continental Europe.”

The Grand Lodge of England.

I don’t see why the Grand Lodge of England has the authority over the Grand Orient de France (GODF), which is the oldest Masonic group in continental Europe.
They have no authority over them; its one of the reasons they do not recognize them as legitimate freemasonry.

In comparison, it would be like someone starting up a church, calling it Roman Catholic and yet not recognizing Rome as the sole authority. It would not be a legitimate Roman Catholic Church in the eyes of Rome.

Oh. Which Grand Lodge of England are you talking about.
Are you speaking about the
Premier Grand Lodge of England, or the
United Grand Lodge of England, or the
Ancient Grand Lodge of England.
And why should they be the true freemasons and not the Grand Orient de France (GODF), which is the oldest Masonic group in continental Europe.

Why does the legitimacy of the Church depends upon the sole authority of Rome? Should it be it God’s?

United Grand Lodge of England is the only accepted Grand Lodge. The others are clandestine/irregular lodges and as such are not recognized as legitimate Grand Lodges. At one time the GODF was a recognized Grand Lodge, but when they started admitting atheists and women into their lodges they violated landmarks of Freemasonry and lost recognition.

As a man just converting to Roman Catholicism, I am very pleased to see Rome’s uncompromising stance against Freemasonry, as well as to see so many Catholics here supporting that position. The recognition of the true nature of Freemasonry surely must be one of the marks, implicit at least, of the true Holy Mother Church.

Who is a legitimate Roman Catholic matters to us, of course, but not everyone sees it that way. When people oppose the principles of the Catholic Church, they oppose the offshoots too. The Protestants condemn the PNCC just as much as they condemn the RCC, so why is it suddenly unjustified for us to condemn the English Lodge simply because the French Lodge is not “canonical”?

Your certainly entitled to condemn any lodge that you feel is justified. I was just making comparisons to get my point across. 🙂

Beg to differ we were close to our Priest and the guy was arrested and turned out to be a Shriner. The highest order in the Masons. This is not a topic I chose to entertain any more I know the truth and so do the parishoners. We know the truth and why do you speak ill of the KC council? I will pray for you with your judgments. God Bless!
WHO is speaking ill of the KC Council??
You are the person that posted the accusations.
I merely stated that my Council has NEVER shown any Masonic traits in any manner.
I pray for you and I pray deeply that you be prevented from spreading your poisonous rhetoric.

Whoaaa now… somewhere there is a misunderstanding and you need to read what you wrote and what I wrote again. I stated the truth. You are misunderstanding me and as I said. If you never saw it in your counsil then wonderful. I was stating what happened in mine and what happened with our Priest who knew the Mason who threatened his life was a KC member. And for your accusation of poisonous rhetoric you are wrong my friend do not twist my words or put such poor choice of words out there for me speaking on this forum about what happened. The KC’s are wonderful and we need more of them. VIVA JEZU!!! God Bless!!!
