Personal thought - Thank God we’re getting away from the Protestant inspired “Communion in the hand”. After all, if we REALLY DO believe that The Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ, then shouldn’t we approch Him in awe and reverence on our knees, vice standing with a handshake?

From The Catholic News Service;

Vatican: Receiving Eucharist kneeling will be norm at papal liturgies

VATICAN CITY (CNS) – Receiving the Eucharist on the tongue while kneeling before the pope will become the norm at papal liturgies, said the Vatican’s liturgist.

While current norms allow the faithful to receive the Eucharist in the hand while standing, Pope Benedict XVI has indicated a preference for the more traditional practice, said Msgr. Guido Marini, master of papal liturgical ceremonies.

Kneeling and receiving Communion on the tongue highlights “the truth of the real presence (of Christ) in the Eucharist, helps the devotion of the faithful and introduces the sense of mystery more easily,” he said in a June 26 interview with the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano.

I knew I liked this Pope
now will they restore communion rails with kneeling benches so we can get up and down unassisted?

Mach Nicht, I don’t attend many Papal Masses. Either way is fine for me.

OH man…I decided to do a serch before posting this article, but yall got there first.

I am so glad…hopefully this will start a trend…even if it takes years.

My roommate became a Catholic about 2 years ago, former protestant, and he saw the kneeling at comunion at a church one time and ever since then he has hoped we all would start doing this. He said he doesn’t get why we don’t, especially if we believe it IS the entire Body of Christ. He said if Christ came down from heaven he would drop to his knees, and since Christ does he should. And I have to say…I never told him anything about it before he brought it up.

😃 👍 :dancing: :clapping: :bounce: :crossrc:

I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS POPE!!! THANK YOU LORD SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL HOLY FATHER!!

Doesn’t really matter to me, since I doubt I will ever be able to kneel and get up, but I did think this choice of wording was odd

Does this mean if there are other ministers distributing, the norm will be different?

The longest journey begins with the first step. To paraphrase Pope St Pius X, It’s time to restore all things to Christ… not each other.

Do you have any thoughts on my question?

Actually, I do. But I don’t think it would be prudent to post them, due to it being against forum rules to deviate from the initial posting.

Let’s just say that before I retired from the Marine Corps, we called what The Holy father did “leadership from the front”.

If you’d care to initiate a seperate thread concerning EEM’s, I think the forum administartors would allow that.

Step One:
Receiving the Eucharist on the tongue while kneeling before the pope will become the norm at papal liturgies, said the Vatican’s liturgist.
Step Two:

Ad orientam.

Step Three:

Gregorian Chant.

Step Four:

“EF” becomes the “OF” again?

EEM? Would that be EMHC? Actually another Eucharistic Minister would be a Priest (cardinal, bishop) or deacon. Would the norm be the samre for receiving from them?

I really want to kneel for communion, but nobody else does and I don’t want to stick out more than I already do. I do genuflect and that already gets me harsh stares from people.

This pope is slowly working his way back to the “glory days” of the catholic church. Good for him…

Altar rails need to be reinstalled in the church buildings they were removed from. I honestly believe that communion went faster when we all knelt at the rail.👍 😃 👍

Why the special rule for the Pope alone though? I mean if he truly believes in what he’s doing, why not make it mandatory everywhere?

😉 He has to be careful not to step on the toes of the modernists who despise anything practiced in the “Dark Ages,” i.e. anytime before the Beatles “Abbey Road” album was released.

MN, then let them stare at you harshly. What you’re doing is right. You know it… and they know it.

Possibly they’re just re-directing their own shame at you?
