Wait a second, we are settling 50 year old lawsuits and you question a story that is 5 years old? I don’t doubt for a second that there are homosexual priests that caused the scandal, nor do I question that the majority were homosexual, but it is quite naive to think, even for a moment, that heterosexual perverts didn’t contribute to the problem too.

But back to the point-are you contending that heterosexaul rape is a problem to the same extent homosexual rape was in the Church? I also wonder if you believe homosexual behavior in and of itself is wrong.?

Let me get this straight, a boy raped by a priest grows up to be a victim but a raped girl grows up to be a feminist?

Yes, heterosexual abuse currently accounts for 20% of the reported abuse. Yes, raping kids, male or female is a problem and equally vile.

I find nothing wrong with heterosexual sex, just criminal sex!

A sexual abuse lawsuit was filed against the Archdiocese of Dubuque by nine victims, seven males and two females. The claims related to sexual abuse involving six priests: Patrick McElliot who served at St. Patricks in Ryan; William Schwartz who served at Columbus High School in Waterloo; John Brickle of St. Patrick’s in Nevada; Joseph Patnode of St. Patrick’s in Nevada; Timothy Devenney, of St. Columkille’s in Dubuque; and Allen Schmitt, who served in Sacred Heart in Waterloo. In a settlement reached, the Archdiocese of Dubuque will pay $2.6 million to resolve claims and the suit will not go to trial. Previously, the Archdiocese settled sexual abuse claims by paying $5 million to 20 people in February 2006

I wonder if girls were more likely to come forward at the time and to find resolution than boys who had the added social stigma of homosexual relations. If that was the case, it could also disproportionately skew the current cases to those of boys.

Male to female sexual relationships are also not unknown, but they don’t break criminal law, just ecclesiastic law, so the public and press is unlikely to discover them. Just as it is unethical for a doctor to have relations with his client, it is unethical (on top of immoral and breaking his vow) for a priest to abuse his position of spiritual authority to enter into a relationship with someone under his care. These cases do not rise to the same level of abuse, but it is abusive none the less.

Incorrect-over 90% of the reported abuses were homosexual rape of post-pubesecent boys. 5% were pediophilic leaving 2 to 3% that were heterosexual rape.

Is the suspended cleric a bishop or a monsignor? I’m also put off by the news quote in OP’s post that says, "monsignor is title granted to high ranking vatican officials. My pastor is a monsignor and he is not a high ranking vatican official.

I’m a little curious as to whether or not the press is distorting the “who” and their title deliberately.

I am not denying there is a problemn with hetersosexaul abuse at all-in fact what you have posted supports my contetion that 90% of the abuses are homosexual rape of post pubesecent boys- firm evidence that homosexuality and the Priesthood are incompatible. I dont think we can say the same thing about heterosexualtiy.

The biggest problem with heterosexual Priests is consensual affairs and fathering children out of wedlock-not rape & abuse/

If you want to nit pick about percent, so be it.
The largest group of alleged victims (50.9%) was between the ages of 11 and 14, 27.3% were 15-17, 16% were 8-10 and nearly 6% were under age 7. Overall, 81% of victims were male and 19% female. Male victims tended to be older than female victims. Over 40% of all victims were males between the ages of 11 and 14.

No one ever said they shouldnt . Do you beleive homosexual behavior is wrong in and of itself?
 
NoHome… The thing you also have to consider here is the % of females raped by their coaches and teachers, bosses and co-workers. Yes, hetrosexual rape and abuse exist… and it is wrong, but to be quite honest, I trust my priest over my high school teacher that did abuse me. Not to mention the job I never started because my interviewer never looked me in the face once during the interview.

Not that I think any group is more accountable than clergy… but I would rather belong to a Church where they are willing to suspend pending an investigation than some other Church with no accountability to anyone else!

If the investigation concludes that someone has acted inappropriately, I would be the first one to turn them over to the law to prosecute and impose sanctions if it were in my power. We have to let them do their jobs and see the results of the investigation. Everyone deserves to have their day…so to speak.

We also have an obligation to pray that they seek repentance!
