Pray for Paul Ryan to do well so Romney/Ryan have continued momentum

While I dont believe any of the two candidates have the true voice or intentions of changing the current situation, I have to say I am tired to see the nation the way it is now…

I feel like playing Russian roulette with these two… You know it will be a mess but you dont know when or how!

“….[Biden’s] trip planners regularly scout for parishes where there’d be no big fuss over him — and no risk of him being denied Communion over his pro-choice politics.”
“…[Biden] was praised for being the only kid in his ninth-grade theology class who copped to doubts about transubstantiation, and his mother also famously instructed him, when she heard he was meeting the pope, “Don’t you kiss his ring!”
“…What Biden could learn from Ryan is that the vice president’s insistence that he doesn’t want to impose his morality on anybody in a pluralistic country doesn’t really track; the Civil Rights Act imposed morality on lots of people who wanted no part of it, and thank goodness. And same-sex marriage is doing the same, isn’t it?”

Very interesting analysis:
Having grown up in the same culture, the two men almost certainly understand each other on a level no amount of briefing could provide. Yet they also almost perfectly embody the split in the American church as well as in American politics, with Biden representing the old-school, union-tied, Vatican II generation of Kennedy-loving Catholics whose focus is social justice and who are comfortable with questioning. He was praised for being the only kid in his ninth-grade theology class who copped to doubts about transubstantiation, and his mother also famously instructed him, when she heard he was meeting the pope, “Don’t you kiss his ring!”
Ryan, meanwhile, upholds the younger, more conservative, John Paul II-era, anti-abortion-focused Catholicism of the sonogram generation. It’s doubtful that the different faith-based emphases of these two running mates will influence the election much, despite the efforts of Ryan’s cheering section.
What I question is how this author thinks Roe can be overturned by an act of Congress? 🤷

My prediction is Ryan by two touchdowns and a field goal, right after the Cards clinch an NLCS berth! 😃

I’m routing for Biden to put a cap on Romney’s momentum.

Stick it to em’ Joe!! 👍

I do not like bloodshed on TV, even if it is allegorical. The absolute worst are the battles of wit where one side is unarmed. Ugh!

This is pretty historic, the first time two Catholics have squared against each other for the veep spot.

I bet Biden will quote the Catholic Bishops and Nuns on the bus who believe the far left should continue to amass gross profits by selling more lewd sex, drug and violence themes in the media to the poor and the downtrodden, then force the larger society to pay for the problems THEY created, in the name of charity. Naturally, these liberal lifestyles keep them downtrodden. Ryan better be prepared to reveal the liberal Causes of all this pain.

I’m cautiously optimistic that Mr. Ryan will do well tonight.

Oddly, both profess to be Roman Catholic, but only Mr. Ryan is held to task for it. (And Mr. Biden’s professed opinions on many things are contrary to Church teachings…)

Well, if the abortion issue comes up, Ryan can say he is following his faith. Biden, no.

I’m looking foward to a spirited debate.

Unlike some who would like to see Catholic issues raised, I don’t think they will be. Do Baptists care who is being denied Communion? Do Anglicans care?

I believe that the only issues that will be discussed are those that have impact on all Americans - the economy, taxes, troops in the Middle East, etc. Wholly secular issues.

Suppose they were two Mormons. Would anyone here care if they argued about a point of their doctrine? Of course not. Catholics on the Forum appear to be too insular. 🤷
