For the supposed “larger segment” that don’t know Catholics are pro life, all it might take is the utterence of a few words like “Catholics are pro life…and I’m catholic”. Not a tricky one.
Whoa there. A fair percentage of Catholics have been shown to be pro-choice. Those two phrases of yours won’t cut it.

"Choice’ is only a cover -up word.
To you, maybe. I know to a fair thee well that there are real pro-choicers out there who are not pro-abortion. But, please don’t hijack this thread. We can argue about it elsewhere.

It doesn’t change the teaching, they know the church teaches pro life. If they don’t, they will get a conscience awakening epiphany.

I’m hijacking it? I guess we’re equal then since you keep responding.

It’s sad when the right wants to bring back innocence and romanticism, but it will lead to a baby boom that the progressives don’t want, and the other side wants to promote more recreational sex that needs free birth control and abortion to limit the numbers of individuals born who would have been drains on the earth.
That’s one of those things we know that just ain’t so.

:Ryan was only three when Biden was first elect. 😃

Term limits would take care of most of America’s problems. Congress and the Senate would only attract those who were dedicated to service to the country. In and out. Look at the current old timers: how do you get so rich and powerful without some form of intervening corruption?

Well said.

I have been looking forward to this debate since Ryan was announced. I expect it to be a tough room…a rough fight…and I expect that Joe will be owned by Ryan.

If your catholic and you haven’t heard much , or anything, about being pro life, you’ve been away a long time.
👍👍

It isn’t because the information is hidden from them, either.

EVANGELIUM VITAE
  1. **Abortion and euthanasia **are thus crimes which no human law can claim to legitimize. There is no obligation in conscience to obey such laws; instead there is a grave and clear obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection. From the very beginnings of the Church, the apostolic preaching reminded Christians of their duty to obey legitimately constituted public authorities (cf. Rom 13:1-7; 1 Pet 2:13-14), but at the same time it firmly warned that “we must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). In the Old Testament, precisely in regard to threats against life, we find a significant example of resistance to the unjust command of those in authority. After Pharaoh ordered the killing of all newborn males, the Hebrew midwives refused. “They did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live” (Ex 1:17). But the ultimate reason for their action should be noted: “the midwives feared God” (ibid.). It is precisely from obedience to God-to whom alone is due that fear which is acknowledgment of his absolute sovereignty-that the strength and the courage to resist unjust human laws are born. It is the strength and the courage of those prepared even to be imprisoned or put to the sword, in the certainty that this is what makes for “the endurance and faith of the saints” (Rev 13:10).
In the case of an intrinsically unjust law, such as a law permitting abortion or euthanasia, it is therefore never licit to obey it, or to “take part in a propaganda campaign in favour of such a law, or vote for it”.98

Pope Benedict Warns Americans: Get Active or Lose Your Freedoms
Recently, Pope Benedict told the U.S. bishops:
“It is imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church’s public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres. The seriousness of these threats needs to be clearly appreciated at every level of ecclesial life.”
The Church is under assault in America, with the government intruding more and more, passing laws and policies that violate the Catholic faith and the basic principles of morality. Whether the issue is abortion, homosexual “marriage,” religious freedom, or a host of other issues, the forces that oppose the Church are on the attack.
Countering this assault isn’t something that the bishops can do by themselves. They can’t even do it with the help of their priests. The task is so great that it must involve Catholics at every level of the Church in America, including ordinary church-going men and women like you and me. Pope Benedict explained:
“Here once more we see the need for an engaged, articulate, and well-formed Catholic laity . . . with the courage to counter a reductive secularism which would de-legitimize the Church’s participation in public debate about the issues which are determining the future of American society. The preparation of committed lay leaders and the presentation of a convincing articulation of the Christian vision of man and society remain a primary task of the Church in your country.”
Pope Benedict has told us what we need to do, and it isn’t rocket science. We need to mobilize the lay Catholics of America to stand up and fight, to engage the democratic process and to use their voices and their votes in “determining the future of American society.”

It will be a tough debate. Ryan will come on with statistics, facts and figures in support of Romney’s proposals. Joe Biden will come out with broad and bold assertions (true or not) and much less statistical information to support Obama’s record or agenda. I don’t think Biden has the smarts to compete intellectually with Ryan, so do not be surprised by the appearance of “Blowhard Joe” at tonight’s debate.
