This just insanity! This is similar to what the Nazi’s did to Pius XII prior to WWII! Hollywood is cursed. Hollywood is cursed.

Remember the words of St. Stephen. “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them.”

South Park prides itself on being lewd, crude and socially unacceptable. I believe the show used to have a walking, talking bowel movement.

The Catholic League is doing exactly what they shouldn’t do - giving the show attention. Shocking the devout is one of the drawing cards of the show. We only increase the audience by treating its insults seriously.

What should they do, turn a blind eye and not correct the people their for their innate mistake? Spread the gospel to all nations not just some of them.

On the eve of The Immaculate Conception, I’d say that it was deliberate and stinks of anti-catholicism.

I pray the Lord kicks their butts.!!!

I am not supprised at all. South Park goes for the lowest type of humor. With all the anti-Catholicism in Hollywood, would you expect anything else from them. I don’t

I don’t get how this would be funny to anyone. You have to have some knowledge about Marian miracles to understand the parody, so the “joke” is directed at Catholics, who in turn would be deeply offended. Who is going to laugh at this?

I’m compelled to believe this is more about hurting feelings than trying to be funny, unless there are people who find humor in harming others.

I hope no one complains about it- when people show they are offended, it only makes things worse.

I disagree; if blacks never showed they were offended, there might not be equal rights laws today. If women never spoke out about voting rights, they might not have received the right to vote…Besides in this case, sponsors are may be sensitiive to customer complaints (i.e. money talks).

No wonder most Hollywood films flop. Viacom’s Paramount Pictures has no hit this year.

Since Hollyweird’s movie attendance has unsuprisingly gone flop this year, due in large part to wack story writing, they have to resort to defaming all things Catholic to fill seats. Somehow I don’t think that strategy will go over too well with the viewing public.

How low will they go to remain afloat?

Well I’m not buying…:nope:

If your watching South Park you can’t really expect to see anything that is fair. South Park takes the mick and insults the majority of religions, Protestant, Catholic, Mormons, Judaism. I am not really suprised by this, and really not that insulted, sure I think its wrong, but they are the ones who look ignorant. I say don’t complain, it just makes us look like kill joys who want to bible bash all the time. I am always finding insulting stuff on South Park, just ignore it.

Teenage and college aged males would be most likely to laugh at this. I think that is the main audience for South Park.

I haven’t seen the episode, but from the description it may not require a deep knowledge of miracles but simply an awareness of news reports.

But to reach persons, to actually correct them, requires a teachable moment. Simply sending in protest mail will only encourage them - they want to shock and offend the pious. I think this is an example of where it is better to not react.

I saw it too last night and I ws offended. However, I seem to remember this forum supporting the show when it was trashing the Mormons (dum-dum-da-dum), and the Scientologists (Tom Cruise Comes Out of The Closet). I guess humor sometimes depends upon whose ox is getting gored.

That said, that episode on the feast of the Immaculate Conception was particularly distasteful.

What happens if they mock Islam? Well, there’ll be dancing and Koran waving in the street screaming death to the infidel Americans.

I’ve read a few stories on this, and it seems as though the media is stating that Catholics are the only people who are offended by this. Isn’t she still the mother of the protestant Jesus? This if far more than attack on Catholics. It’s also an attack on the mother of God, which is an attack on Jesus Christ himself.

Imagine our own birthmothers being portrayed that way on national TV. That’s how deep of a cord it should strike each Christian. Otherwise, your faith is distorted.

The truly sad thing is you probably won’t find any Christians outside of the Catholic/Orthodox Churches who will speak out against this.

From what I understand the scientology episode was poking fun at Tom Cruse more than anything, and the Mormon episode was going after Joseph Smith. The Virgin Mary is the Mother of Almighty God himself! Not just some entertainer or off-the-wall cult founder. To put her at the same level is like saying she was just some kind of savior incubator.

You have to consider the source. And just for the record, South Park is not anti-Catholic, they are anti-just about everything. They also did a show that ripped John Smith and the foundation of Mormonism to shreds. They have done shows that attack the Jews, Scientology, and Islam. They go after everyone. They even regularly trash Hollywood and various stars from Streisand to Mel Gibson. No one is safe from attack. Complaining about it only lets them know that they achieved the desired effect.

Forgive them they know not what they do.

Atleast for South Park, it doesn’t seem like they have some agenda. They have nothing. They have no clue what it really means to defile anything. This isn’t exactly the polically correct crowd watching this cartoon. I doubt they are sensative to much, thus have no idea what it is to hear insensative remarks. The show tries to be offensive, its not going to drive any viewers away by some claiming it is offensive.

With this particular show, the best thing to do is to shake the dust off your feet and to move on. Oh and don’t forget to pray for them.
