What should they do, turn a blind eye and not correct the people their for their innate mistake? Spread the gospel to all nations not just some of them.South Park prides itself on being lewd, crude and socially unacceptable. I believe the show used to have a walking, talking bowel movement.
The Catholic League is doing exactly what they shouldn’t do - giving the show attention. Shocking the devout is one of the drawing cards of the show. We only increase the audience by treating its insults seriously.
I don’t get how this would be funny to anyone. You have to have some knowledge about Marian miracles to understand the parody, so the “joke” is directed at Catholics, who in turn would be deeply offended. Who is going to laugh at this? This just insanity!
I disagree; if blacks never showed they were offended, there might not be equal rights laws today. If women never spoke out about voting rights, they might not have received the right to vote…Besides in this case, sponsors are may be sensitiive to customer complaints (i.e. money talks).I hope no one complains about it- when people show they are offended, it only makes things worse.
Teenage and college aged males would be most likely to laugh at this. I think that is the main audience for South Park.I don’t get how this would be funny to anyone. But to reach persons, to actually correct them, requires a teachable moment. Simply sending in protest mail will only encourage them - they want to shock and offend the pious. I think this is an example of where it is better to not react. What should they do, turn a blind eye and not correct the people their for their innate mistake?
I’ve read a few stories on this, and it seems as though the media is stating that Catholics are the only people who are offended by this. Isn’t she still the mother of the protestant Jesus? This if far more than attack on Catholics. It’s also an attack on the mother of God, which is an attack on Jesus Christ himself.I saw it too last night and I ws offended. However, I seem to remember this forum supporting the show when it was trashing the Mormons (dum-dum-da-dum), and the Scientologists (Tom Cruise Comes Out of The Closet). I guess humor sometimes depends upon whose ox is getting gored.
That said, that episode on the feast of the Immaculate Conception was particularly distasteful.
