Mass is a prayer so saying the rosary in the back would put you in separate prayer which isn’t bad but isn’t the purpose of saying communal prayer. Most parishes that celebrate the latin form of mass have a daily pamphlet that is word for word what is going on. There are very few times during mass that the faithful is required to say anything and it is in no way mandatory as you can be silent throughout. Sitting in the back saying the rosary wouldn’t be the best practice though. You can stay seated and observe since that is what you seem to want to do.
