Yes, there are problems with respect for the Holy Eucharist. This is not a new problem, either.
Communion in the hand does not help, it may even compound the problem…but the problem does not go away if you simply ban communion in the hand…a person could receive on the tongue and then remove the host. Certainly the danger of desecration is lessened if you receive on the tongue…but it’s not totally removed.
Having men who like to play with swords standing by the communion stations will not help. What will they do? Stab offenders? Draw their swords and block the path of the offender?
I highly, highly doubt that “hundreds” of hosts were uncovered in any rug replacement.
As for the idea that Christ’s presence might magically vanish so as to prevent Satanic desecration…I hope anyone speculating like that has nothing at all to do with the education of youth.
So, to conclude, certainly this problem might be significantly stifled if communion were restricted to one form, at the rail, on the tongue. It wouldn’t entirely vanish…but it would help.
