Walkin' Away with the Eucharist . . .

I think a lot of people go just because they don’t want to feel left out. They also in many cases apparently do not realize exactly what they are doing or supposed to do, so in a wierd way it actually makes sense.

They don’t know what to do so they do whatever they think appropriate.
 
In my first post to this forum, I offer a quick story that addresses the original topic.

On December 3rd, a surprising thing happened here in central Minnesota, and I was moved to attend something that almost no one knows about in my diocese of St. Cloud.

The Irish mystic Christina Gallagher and her spiritual director Father Gerard Migginnity were in Padua Minnesota south of Sauk Centre; they were there to re-dedicate and bless a house of prayer…the building was the former Church of Saint Anthony. Allegedly, Christina Gallagher has been asked by Our Lady to start a chain of houses of prayer around the world. There are houses in Texas, Ohio, and Kansas (as well as Achill Ireland).

Our Bishop allowed Fr. Gerard to offer a Mass. There were about 200 people there…I found just enough room in back by the statue of St. Anthony. Honestly, in my 47 years, I have never seen a more wonderful Mass. Fr. Gerard offered up the Eucharist slowly, with a tender love, and everyone who was able kneeled through the entire blessing of the Sacrament.

Before he offered Communion, he gently asked everyone to consider taking the Host on our tongues; he said if we did this, we would be offering Christ and his Mother reparation for all the inappropriate ways He is being received on earth.

Communion was taken off the rail, with an altar boy wearing the black and white cassock and surplus that I wore in the early 1970’s; a patten was beneath all chins, and everyone did as he asked.

The result for me is that I believe in this woman’s apparations and locutions. I did not stay to hear her speak…when I saw the way this man offered Mass, I had seen all I needed to.

Also: Fr. Gerard asked us to take The Eucharist like this for the rest of our days, and I am going to do exactly this to the finish line. I won’t touch the Host again with my hands.

Does she have a website?

BTW, while I will take the host in my hands, my nine year old daughter will not. I think I might take a cue from her.
 
Oh dear, now this thread has degenerated into apparitions (which Catholics are wisely advised to be highly skeptical of).
 
I was telling my husband about this thread, because as some of you know my diocese is orthodox and I found it crazy that some parishes didn’t use patens or have at least alter servers beside the “EMHCs” to guard against potential profanation.
My husband was the reader for the six pm Christmas Mass. He told me what he heard our priest remind the alter servers when they were vesting. He said, “Now, remember that some of these people don’t come to Mass as they should and may not be in a position to know how to recieve correctly. I need each of you to flank me and to take your time so that we may know that our Lord was consummed with due reverence.”
Since we only offer under one species, there is no need for extraordinary ministers, save for the two that help our elderly monsignor every other Sunday.
I don’t understand why Az was criticized in the slightest for doing what is right and noble. This IS the creator of the Universe- flesh, blood, body, soul and divinity! No matter what the intentions were of the person who took the Host w/o consuming Him immediatly, and I mean no matter what, it was an abomination and profanation. We all should be shocked and scandelized to hear of such. I am proud we have such defenders of Christ like Az and our good and holy priests.

I wasn’t at all criticising what Az 4 faith did which was absolutely correct and for which I heartily applaud him(her?). I’m sure Az knows this. Nor did any of the rest of us criticise Az’s actions.

I did criticise Az for what I thought was a lack of understanding of why the person may have done it though. Separate issue, and I did and still do apologise for hurting Az’s feelings by going overboard.

EDIT defending that which we believe to be literally the Body and Blood of Christ is something which anyone who truly loves Him and truly believes Church teaching on the matter would be prepared to do.

St Paul himself says that those who receive the Body and Blood without discerning it properly (ie without correct belief and reverent behaviour) are damning themselves. It’s an act of charity to save people from this.

I wondered that myself. The carpets were installed sometime in the 1980s - possible the pews weren’t removed and there were some carpet edges at the underneath edge - it was a sad thing to learn.

What you fail to see–is that by this comment–you exibit what you are accusing people of doing.
 
I honestly dislike sarcasm remark.
I don’t know the poster’s intention when he/she doing it.
Should I believe what I read or should I second guess the meaning?
Does he “says what he means”? Or should I interprete that he is actually means “black” when he typed “white”?
Can I quote him? Out of context?

I once work for a boss/superior who often use sarcasm.
I did get into trouble because I honestly misunderstood her – back then my English was still elementary.

Please “say what you mean and mean what you say”.
Be charitable and say ahead of time that “the following is sarcasm”.

Well, since you have already formed an opinion of and judged Mel Gibson, whom I sincerely doubt you’ve ever met, it is pretty easy to see what influences your decisions. If that is the case then perhaps this potential convert as you describe him or her, yourself?, needs to take a good hard look at what exactly you are looking for. truth or something that feels good. I know that in many CCD and RCIA programs the feel good, I love you, you love me, we’re a happy family, whoops mustn’t offend anyone at all ever mentality rules. However, lest you have any misunderstanding, there are currently several thousand if I’m not mistaken, Saints in the Roman Church. A very large number of them died defending the faith, by thought, by word and by deed. They chose death rather than compromise the faith in any way. They are called martyrs, maybe you’ve heard of them.

Now I’m not saying anyone on this thread is a potential martyr but I have no doubt at all nor should you that the faith is attacked by many who come on this forum and further is attacked by others every day in churches across the earth and around the world. As for me, I prefer to defend the faith by any means necessary and available which often is sarcasm or what you might consider rude remarks. I may even hurt a few peoples feelings along the way:bigyikes: If I’m wrong, I’ll apologize.

And if commitment to a faith that actually requires you to believe in just a bit more than hey we’re all one big family lets love each other and be happy!!!, than maybe this potential convert needs to re-evaluate a few things.

It would be a sad thing indeed to convert to a faith if what you believe the faith to be is actually something quite different.
