WALSH: Rioters Violate Social Distancing. Media Doesn’t Care. But Here’s What They Said About Conservative Protesters.

By Matt Walsh

Jun 1st, 2020 DailyWire.com

Some of us are old enough to remember the bygone days of three weeks ago. Back in those bad old times, the news media were quite certain that it was brazen and irresponsible and possibly murderous to protest during a pandemic Such gatherings, . . . would spread the virus at hyper speed and directly result in countless deaths.

Not to harp on ancient history, but I can recall this article from Vox assuring me that protesting under these conditions is racist because it might kill black people.

An article on PennLive.com repeated the once-common argument that protestors shouldn’t receive medical care if they contract the virus.

The Guardian warned that protestors might be spreading the virus “far and wide.”…

. . . Dr. Birx called it “devastatingly worrisome” that protesters would gather in the middle of an outbreak.

Others called the protests “reckless” and “mind-bogglingly selfish.”

The Washington Post assured us that demonstrators “don’t care about lives” while Slate accused them of “twisting the idea of liberty.” . . .

. . . These are just a few examples. Many more could be offered, but what’s the use? We all lived through the past three months . . . Even people who simply went to the beach to sunbathe and wade in the water were blasted in [panicky news headlines. . . .

. . . The point is that the very act of protesting, or of forming large groups for any other reason, was supposed to put many lives at risk, thus was worthy of condemnation (and prohibition by the government). In one fell swoop, literally overnight, all of that was put to the side.

Why? Has COVID-19 gone away? Did its method of transmission suddenly change? Are we witnessing a miracle? Or did the media just decide to dump one narrative in favor of another, for political reasons? The answer, of course, is clear. And the lesson we should all take home is also clear: if you want to protest during a pandemic, do it safely and responsibly, by burning down buildings, stopping traffic, and beating the he** out of random bystanders. That way you’ll escape criticism, not to mention prosecution.

Matt Walsh Drops Epic Thread Showing Media Hypocrisy Over Protests

Posted at 9:30 pm on June 1, 2020 by Bonchie

The media have absolutely lost their minds. Just a few weeks ago, they were decrying peaceful protests pushing back on some of the draconian coronavirus lockdowns, claiming that such events would kill people and cause the virus to spread. If you went to the beach or the park, you were a selfish, irresponsible jerk trying to kill people’s grandmothers. Just seven days ago, I wrote this piece about media reactions to people swimming in a literal pool of disinfectant at the Lake of the Ozarks.

That’s all changed, though. The massive riots currently going on across the country have apparently cured the coronavirus, as the media are in full support, with CNN once again tonight urging people to get out and “protest.”

Matt Walsh, noticing this sudden flip-flop, dropped a pretty great thread showing just how the media treated protestors prior to the past week. . . .,

This leftist Vox screed from April 25th we heard about how anti-lockdown protesting was racist and selfish.

The whiteness of anti-lockdown protests

How ignorance, privilege, and anti-black racism is driving white protesters to risk their lives.

And oh yeah. “Ignorant”. (You can’t make this stuff up.)

.

.

More from the Redstate article . . .
I guess black people are immune now? Or perhaps the media never really cared about them in the first place and were just stoking tensions to fit their narrative? I’m gonna go with the latter.

I wrote on this idea that anyone who protests doesn’t deserve medical care, noting that the same argument is never used when people protest the police, nor should it be. The fact that people protest is not a reason to deny them medical care or police protection. Yet, the media were fine with suggesting conservatives be left to die if they catch the virus while protesting. Will they hold that same standard with these current protests? I’m gonna suggest they won’t. . . .

. . . That’s my favorite. You see, lock down orders are fine and totally constitutional. But curfews put in place after massive riots are tyranny or something. Do these people even hear themselves? . . .

. . . All that concern, all that hand wringing is gone because these protests advance a narrative the media like. That’s the only reason they’ve so quickly and thoroughly changed their disposition. A week ago, you were basically committing manslaughter if you left your house. But tonight people can loot with impunity and CNN will make excuses for them.

It’s all so ridiculous, but completely par for the course for our valiant media.

Yeah it’s funny. If it weren’t so sad at the same time.

Hue and cry for weeks over those peaceful lockdown protesters about to restart Covid-19, how dare they think they know better? Large fines for attempting to restart businesses. Just wow, look at that heavy handedness.

But almost nothing about the protesters about to restart Covid-19. Somebody said the Atlanta mayor suggested the protesters should get tested for Covid-19. That’s about all I’ve heard. If someone has an example of the mainstream media issuing a headline grabbing Covid-19 warning on these protesters like they did for the lockdown protestors, please post here, I would welcome being proved wrong about this one.

Until I see those warnings blasting like they did before Floyd’s death, I’m really rolling my eyes over this one. My brain is frying on the sidewalk.

I’ve said all along that the lockdowns on the healthy were never necessary. That it was never necessary to trash the economy for this in ways that didn’t happen in 1968, 1957, let alone 1918. Now we know the media saw this as fake all along, why else would they let the protesters off the hook. The jig is up and the media has moved on to the next thing they’re using to scare us into compliance.

Its about the upcoming election. Governors and mayors, along with Biden, want to appear strong and “safe.” The majority of the MSM wants to help them get elected. So if protesters don’t look like their base (like those in Michigan carrying guns, demanding the end of the lockdown) then they were condemned for being reckless and unsafe. But, when protesters look like their base, then who cares if they were wearing masks or not.

I noticed this too when the recent riots and protests started. People protesting the lockdowns - “They’re endangering society, how irresponsible!” People protesting police brutality (and rioting, looting, etc.) with seas of bodies in major cities - “Wait, what coronavirus?” I guess if they’re championing a cause dear to the media then they’ll look the other way.

Now I wouldn’t have a problem with the protests if they weren’t looting and vandalizing, coronavirus or not. But the media shows no consistency in its outrage and clearly is willing to give them a pass because it will help their cause in the upcoming election.

The amazing thing is that all the leftist media suddenly changed their opinions on the importance of social distancing (and masks) at exactly the same time.
Like it’s all coordinated, with all of the leftist media following the same marching orders.

I hope we never hear the call for social distancing again after this. A lot of posters talking about the irresponsibility of ignoring it owe a lot of people an apology, as they clearly don’t really believe that.

So true. There were a plethora of threads that that dealt with lockdowns, masks, responsibility to others and a lot of comments of strong support by many on CAF.

I’m currently reading through posts related to protests and riots…apparently those necessary things related to Covid are not so necessary anymore.

It cannot be good for the mental health of those in the media who constantly turn on a dime their values and thinking depending on what is good for their politics today.

What is “consistent” about the Left’s inconsistencies? Both situations cause chaos:
(1) permitting social distancing violations for riots and destruction
(2) demanding extreme social distancing adherence by actually shutting down businesses throughout entire states, causing unemployment and bankrupting businesses

It appears that the Left is encouraging chaos.

As they say, if the Left didn’t have double standards, then they would have no standards.

So the real question is, why should we pay attention to any leftist calling us on a perceived failure to live up to our or their standards?

That door aggressively swings both ways. During the Clinton years I recall the Republican party proclaiming what an absolute moral travesty the man was.

On Fox about Trump after Stormy came along?
“Well, I don’t blame the guy”.

If you want consistent adherence to standards, you’ll need to look somewhere else than politics, any politics.

Two weeks from now
A spike in cases: mass gatherings are problematic.
No spike: all that we know about the virus gets thrown out the window

Another great example is the label of the fiscally conservative party that the Republicans used to enjoy.

It may surprise some that while Obama enjoys the number one spot for indebtedness, the next spots go to Trump and Bush 2 - Republicans last I checked.

The problem is we aren’t talking about politics, we are talking about people not having any consistent standards. It means that the people in question you refer to have no integrity.

I’ll agree insofar that the broad brushes these kinds of threads like to swing are the implements of feeblemindedness. Intellectual laziness.

Groupthink

We shouldn’t. We just need to stay true to our own standards because meeting theirs is not a game that we can win and that is intentional.

Who is this “they”?

I’m a mostly liberal Democrat and I seem to not be getting my manifesto pages in the mail like all the rest…🤔
