Was Ignatiuus of Antioch right?

How do you explain this guys and galswhen you
read this? Does it make you turn white as a ghost.

They have no care for love, nor concerning the widow, nor concerning the orphan, nor concerning the afflicted, nor concerning him who is bound or loosed, nor concerning him who is hungry or thirsty. **They refrain from the eucharist **and from prayer, because they do not confess that the eucharist is the flesh of our Saviour Jesus Christ, which suffered for our sins, and which the Father of his goodness raised up.

8:1 But avoid divisions, as being the beginning of evils. Do ye all follow the bishop, as Jesus Christ doth the Father; and follow the presbyters as the apostles; and have respect unto the deacons as unto the commandment of God. Let no one, apart from the bishop, do any of the things that appertain unto the church. Let that eucharist alone be considered valid which is celebrated in the presence of the bishop, or of him to whom he shall have entrusted it.

This is what floored me in the beginning. I turned white as a ghost. I nearly passed out from fear. I left the one true church for what? Grape juice and crackers? Oh my Lord forgive me…what have I done!!! Seek out your faith with fear and trembling. All of these things passed through my head at an instant. I felt like Saul for a while.

This is only one of many examples.
Catholic Church authority… I would say so with this being one of many examples.

So in reality, the Church is being very charitable realizing that we are dealing with millions of separated brothers and sisters that honestly beleive what they are doing. Have you noticed the division? It’s astounding…each saying the other is wrong. This is why the primacy of the Bishop of Rome is so important. Sacred Tradition must be preserved. It does not and can not contradict the scriptures. But if someone in all good meaning isolates themself apart from the Church’s Teaching then they are not interpreting the scriptures correctly. Remember what Peter said about the weak minded. There are a lot of genius weak minded folks playing church out their. Who’s wrong? And why?
 
This quote had an effect on me like that as well. 😉

Only, I was a “white bread and water” Mormon,

then a “some kind of bread and grape juice” AofG

then HOME to the Eucharist.

Welcome Home brother! I began my long haul swim in October 2006 with my entire family…domestic church. My wife is in the oratory now.
 
Welcome Home Steph. That must have really been a difficult swim for you because of what LDS teach… Did I say that correct “LDS”?
 
Why turn white as a sheet? What it tells me is that even the earliest followers could not agree on what the scriptures meant. Even less than 100 years after Christ died.
 
Yup vocatio. It’s LDS… unless you’re watching Star Trek IV. Then Captain Kirk … or was it Spock? said “LSD”.

Even as a Mormon, I found that funny. 😃

So you do not know who Ignatius of Antioch is then apparently? The Church didn’t pass on the faith to just anyone. There was one true faith. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t heresies in those days. They did exist. And Christ knew there would be disunity from the beginning. You sound more like a fundamentalist or an athiest…which is it?

And it says what they did to resolve their disagreements too - that the bishops are the supreme authority and speak with God’s own authority and are to be submitted to in all humility.

St. Ignatius of Antioch apparently was the student of John the Apostle. shrugs It sounds like his is trying to reinforce his own authority and power to me.

Sorry, when man equates his authority with God’s authority, I tend to run the other way.

Why?

I realize that man is prone to abuse authority, but such a reaction makes it sound like you don’t believe that God is able to will and to work in man to express His authority. All authority comes from God, and God is the one who passes it to people:

Matt 28:18 - Mark 1:1
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.”

Jesus sent the Apostles in His authority. They have the authority to “make disciples” and to “teach”. They know how to determine if all is being “observed” that Christ commanded.

Well then surely there would have been someone in those days - you know, someone with the “right” faith - that would have written against what Ignatius of Antioch was saying, right?

In reality, Ignatius was universally praised.

I think that “right” faith is overrated.
