Holly:Because I don’t know the reason behind it, I cannot make a personal judgement.
I can’t see how anyone could be required to make any kind of judgement about anything without knowldge of the facts. I do see that Catholics could reasonable be expected to investigate something such as this if they can, and if they find things that appear to be serious violations of Church Law, or abuses of Ecclesial Power, to send the documentation to the Vatican, along with a copy to the Bishops they’re writing about.
I just don’t know what else to do when a Bishop tolerates Child Molestation and hide the Molesters from law enforcement and the faithful, or supports the ordination of “Women Priests”, or opposes the Vatican on Artificial Contraception, or refuses to annunciate the Church’s position on Abortion, or refuses to follow the Liturgical Norms as expressed in the GIRM.
Bishops are responsible for making sure the Catholic Church is CATHOLIC on the Diocesan level, but what do you do when SOME of the Bishops don’t do their jobs? …When some of the Bishops seem to believe that some things are more important than the Catholic Faith and the Gospel of Jesus Christ? …Or, Some of the Bishops get confused about what the Catholic Faith and the Gospel of Christ are? …Or, When some of them forget that Bishops are “Servants of the Servants of God”?
I’ll never say that the Faithful should be rude or condescending, or should not try to be diplomatic or respectful. but, Do you think the Church would have had the scandals she’s had in the past decade if the Faithful would have been praying for their clergy and letting the people in authority know when things were going awry?
In Christ, Michel
