Was Obama Rattled by Developing Donor Scandal Story?

"President Obama reelection campaign, rattled by his Wednesday night debate performance, could be in for even worse news. According to knowledgable sources, a national magazine and a national web site are preparing a blockbuster donor scandal story.

Sources told Secrets that the Obama campaign has been trying to block the story. But a key source said it plans to publish the story Friday or, more likely, Monday.

According to the sources, a taxpayer watchdog group conducted a nine-month investigation into presidential and congressional fundraising and has uncovered thousands of cases of credit card solicitations and donations to Obama and Capitol Hill, allegedly from unsecured accounts, and many from overseas. That might be a violation of federal election laws.

The Obama campaign has received hundreds of millions in small dollar donations, many via credit card donations through their website. On Thursday, the campaign announced a record September donor haul of $150 million.

At the end of the 2008 presidential campaign, the Obama-Biden effort was hit with a similar scandal. At the time, the Washington Post reported that the Obama campaign let donors use “largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor’s identity.”

Will the mainstream media follow this story once it breaks? Somehow I doubt it.

They may…starting on November 7th.
You’re probably right. I’m anxious to see the lurid details when the national source releases the results of their investigation. Hopefully, if the allegations are indeed true, the American people will reject the use of illegal campaign tactics by the Obama campaign. They are desperate.

You know it’s funny, but I am wondering about just how wise it would be to expose this story. That is for Romney supporters, it could be just a bit demoralizing to start equating each of those contributions to another vote for Obama. I know the spin currently is to say that they represent a much smaller number of voters trying to bypass limitations on individual contributions, but that too has its drawbacks. Now we go from voters’ numbers to contribution amounts. So, it is a case of either “Obama’s got so many who want to contribute to his campaign for a second term.” Or “Obama’s got people willing to risk legal repercussions to give a huge amount of money to his bid for four more years.”

Don’t get me wrong. I am very much against another term for Obama but I can’t help but see the flip side of this coin of exposure, that is, even IF this story is actually true.

i am glad you started a thread on this story because i just saw a reference about a donor scandal and i had no idea what they were talking about. no i know the full story.
well, if wrongdoing has been done, i am all for the violations of being exposed. so i will be interested to see how this story unfolds.

Me too. If it shows the Obama campaign has broken the law, I hope the story really gets around!

You’ll pardon my lack of faith in the system. Hillary Clinton bundler Norman Hsu was a fugitive and convicted ponzi scheme.

He was arrested in the middle of the 2008 primaries, and nobody made a peep about it.

And even when people did mention it, no one really cared. 😦

Also remember all of the ACORN scandals and while ACORN was brought down, it may have helped elect Obama. Further the New Black Panthers waving billy clubs at a precinct didn’t raise the DOJ’s eyebrows enough to pursue. The Democrats pounce on any voter ID plan as racist.

I don’t think there is any doubt that there is corruption in the system, both parties of course but I think the Dems and particularly The Chicago Machine are masters of the game.

Will look forward to this unfolding further.

A bit of an understatement. 🙂

I have been admonished for not being charitable…trying hard to overcome my reputation :). What I really think about the Chicago Machine and that particular group of Democrats is not printable…

As Hugh Hewitt says, if it’s not close they can’t cheat! So here’s to an overwhelming victory to the Romney/Ryan ticket!

I had the misfortune of living in the Glorious People’s Republik of Illinois™.

Corruption and cronyism plagues the entire state, all courtesy of a political machine that makes Tammany Hall look like a Weeblos meeting.

👍

A too close race would be worse than the Bush/Gore debacle.
