What did Sean Hannity say? I’d like his “Catholic” perspective on this. May have been a chance to redeem himself … a little…
I fell asleep before the segment, as I was also waiting to hear his perspective. As far as I know not one TV commentator thought it was a big deal except for Bill O’Reilly (and Laura Ingram that was a guest ) everyone else gives it either a  or a:confused:. Sad, really sad.

I did hear on a later O’Reilly segment that he has gotten an enormous amount of emails from the “mainstream” gay community. They are equally as outraged as any other group. There is a significant group of gay catholics that believe it or not are celibate. In any regard, this travesty was blatantly evil.

Hannity pointed out that while it’s good there in Church. There taking the Eucharist knowing what it means to Catholics, given there stance it’s the same as a slap in the face at the least to the entire church.

An that it was wrong.

This is what I found upon a search.

I would imagine Hannity’s reaction was much like O’Reillys which was to rant and rave. This is what both of these people do for their living. They are probably sincere in their rants but I do not believe this is appropiate or useful for a lay Catholic who seeks to lead a holy life. Their use of the name “gay” is not troubling to them when in fact it is a term invented by homosexuals to put a pretty face on what is ugly. Why is it that these high-minded commentators pander to militant homosexuals in the use of “gay” rather than call a spade a spade? To me its like a person who ferterlizes and waters a noxious plant and the raves when it takes over the garden

While I do not believe that I am “gay,” I am recovering from same sex attractions myself and am living chastely (as discussed in my other postings). I find what happened happened at MHR Church to be absolutely appalling and symptomatic of grave and persistent problems in the Church.

It is appalling that these “sisters” presented themselves for Holy Communion, and it is appalling that the Archbishop gave it to them.

He needs our prayers.

It would be quite expected that regardless of sexual orientation any devout Catholic is totally appalled and outraged.:yup:

What has to happen before we get to the point of “the gates of hell prevailing” over the church? Obviously we are promised that such won’t happen, but in my earlier days I would have thought it meant protection from the things we see today. Please help me understand…seriously 😦

Gates
The gates of hell will not be able to stand against the offense of the Catholic Church.

It’s the gates of hell that are being relentlessly pounded, and they will not be able to withstand the onslaught of the Church! You see, Christ is commanding the Church to march onward and overcome the gates of hell!

Could you all answer me one question, because an event like this, involving an archbishop of all people, really makes me wonder. What has to happen before we get to the point of “the gates of hell prevailing” over the church? Obviously we are promised that such won’t happen, but in my earlier days I would have thought it meant protection from the things we see today. Please help me understand…seriously 😦

I have not all the posts in this thread, but Father Pacqua addressed this on EWTN last night and read the letter of apology from the Archbishop.

Before condemning the Archbishop, I think his
explanation should be considered.

I live in San Francisco currently and I saw this news on the front page of the Chronicle yesterday.

Thoughts before reading the actual article:

I really don’t know what to think. I am appalled that drag “sisters” came and got communion from the archbishop. Did the archbishop knew if they were Catholic or not?

If they weren’t Catholic then the Eucharist didn’t mean anything to them; they just did it for people to turn their heads or to actually get the Church in the news. They probably also did it to prove that Catholics aren’t Christians because they gave communion to them.

If they were Catholic, then that was the worse display of Catholic faith I have ever. Why would you dress up like sisters?

Sure I am angry, but I am saddened that a couple of guys dressed as sisters would treat this as a joke. This will come up in discussion with my family, oy vey. :crying:

Pray for all of us in this archdiocese. It makes me weep when something like this happens. 😦

It also makes me when someone calls this place, “Satan Francisco.” 😦 This city is named after St. Francis of Assisi by the way.

I am pretty embarrassed right now. This might turn people away from the Church. Then again, maybe it won’t. My guess is that George, our Archbishop, will be hearing from Pope Benedict real soon.

St. Francis, pray for us.:gopray:
St. Dominic, pray for us.:gopray:
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.:gopray:
Lord, hear our prayer. :gopray:

If this was an isolated event I could feel more compassion than I do for the archbishop. I believe he may have been confused and unaware of what was actually taking place - perhaps he is old and gets confused. My heart feels for him in this regard. But the fact is this should never have gotten this far in the first place. Parishes such as MHR should have been cleaned up long ago - and apparently this archbishop and his predecessors have done nothing - or have been ineffective in what they have done - in returning at least some semblance of orthodoxy to their Catholic parishes. If he cannot - or chooses not to -lead his flock faithfully, he should resign or be replaced. I pray for our Holy Father’s wisdom in how to deal with the Church in America.

I am saddened that this happened, too…but, didn’t Jesus share the Eucharist with His betrayer…Judas? Makes you wonder why He did that? I often think about that, when I hear that local Bishops wouldn’t give the Eucharist to candidates running for President say, who support abortion. What to make of it?

Thank you for posting this letter. I read it and I forgive the archbishop for his mistake.

I figured this was not an issue about the LGBT community (although they are having a hissy fit about the letter of apology) but about mocking the Church. As a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, my duty is to give communion to people and if for any reason if they wished not to receive communion, they must cross their arms to receive a blessing. Sadly, there are people out their that wished to make a mockery of the religious women (which are greatly blessed and appreciated) and the Eucharist. If this happens at our parish in San Francisco, I would report this to the pastor immediately. It will not be tolerated.

I hate it when people mock the Church. 😦

Pray for those who mock the Church due to misunderstanding of
the Church and those that have been hurt by the Church.

Pray for our Archbishop of San Francisco and all bishops in the United States.

Here’s two more articles by a local on the issue.

speroforum.com/site/article.asp?id=11510

The latest quotes from the AB and the other priests in attendence is that the bloggers are bullies and the videographer is also horrible. Nothing, of course, mentioned about the desecration of Our Lord and MHR (of course that was done long before this incident).

The SF diocese needs to get used to the idea of people catching them in the act because it’s going to happen more and more often.

Please keep Archbishop Niederauer in your prayers. Questions about his history notwithstanding, he has a very difficult job in a very large and tumultuous See.

The bishop was obviously caught off guard and didn’t know the SPI was coming. That said, MHR has been pulling stunts like this for years. There is very little hope of actually bringing Catholicism back to this parish. People need to understand that the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are in no way strangers to this parish. They are regulars. More than one of their events have been hosted on the property of MHR. Letting the pastor know at this parish will do nothing.

I pray for his wisdom and guidance as well, but really can’t blame Rome for wanting to wash their hands of the US at times such as this. However, they have their hands full as I understand it with their own “wayward priests” right in the Vatican, at the moment.😦 Satan is giving The Church the ol’ one two punch as we speak.

I have a question. Perhaps one of the readers know the answer? We are all aware there are parishes in which there are no priest to consecrate. # 1 Can the ability to consecrate be taken away from priests? If that is possible then the solution is to close down the parish in which this abuse of communion is taking place. Then whatever unlawful practice is taking place ends.

Maybe we have come to a time in Church history where we need to have the Knights of Columbus posted out front of every Church entry while Mass is going on. Hopefully, they will be posted in Full Gear. We are not playing games here, the Body of Christ needs to be defended in a very serious manner these days.

Now would be a good time for young men to consider serving their Lord by serving as a Knight of Columbus, with specific duty to Guard the Entry while Holy Mass is being said.
with swords drawn!

One must fully believe and be in the state of grace to receive.
