I can not for the life of me figure out why the U.S.A. (mainly), and the EU to some degree, (empty churches in Spain, Italy, Germany, and France?), have such utter disdain for the Church. I could understand MAYBE, to some miniscule degree in Eurpope, though I think it’s well past time to get over it. But the U.S.A.? We’re only a little over 200 years old. We’re a blip on the map in Church history. Why so cold? It’s just awful. I’ve only been confirmed in the RCC for a little over 2 years. I already feel like a leper in biblical times. Yes…there were some pedophile priests. Anybody look into the pedophile ministers in Protestant churches? (I know two wrongs don’t make a right, just illustrating a point). Most people almost spit on the ground when you mention Catholics in the U.S. I hear people saying “I’m a recovering Catholic”, and everybody laughs and laughs. Every opportunity and possibility for a dig, or an anti-Catholic storyline on T.V., or line in a movie is taken. Even my own family is moderately anti-Catholic. (It used to be much worse. My Dad used get the veins popping out on his forhead when he would talk to me about Catholics). Even my own father never explained why. I had Catholic friends my whole life, and never saw anything different or bad about them.

To be honest, most of their families seemed to be a little closer knit than mine. They usually had more kids, and nicer moms. (Mormon families too, for that matter). So what IS the deal? What have the Catholics possibly had time to do that was so terrible here in the United States? We were established well after the schism, well after Luther and the selling of indulgences etc. (Frankly, I tend to think that Luther would have reconciled with the Church long ago, were he still alive. He was very smart. He would have reasoned out the sola scriptura thing (sola scriptura not being biblical), and the Church stopped the abuses they were doing ages ago. His “Faith alone”, was a backlash and a reaction to the abuses of indulgences, and the improper use of relics. He was already quite a Marian, and believed the Eucharist to be central, and to be the real presence. Well…long and short of it, he was a disgruntled Catholic. Instead of riding it out, and working for understanding and change in THE Church, he made his own, and ever since, that’s been how things are handled.)

Oh…I’m getting VERY sidetracked here. I guess I’m just a bit upset about protestanism to begin with, even though I was raised by protestants. It may have made some sense as a temporary protest in the 16th century, but certainly has no basis now. It’s just a mess, and takes away from the divine Liturgy we could ALL be practicing together, and the sacramental life we could all be living together. I know, I know. I just need to take a breath and be patient. Jesus promised us that HIS Church will stand for all of time, and will in fact be the very Kingdom of God he spoke of.

Back to the topic. Why is Catholicism so despised in the USA? Can it be fixed? If not, I will happily endure the ridicule, pain, persecution, estrangement from my family, hatred from society, just for the chance to spend one more minute in front of the blessed sacrament, or to be transformed one more time by the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Each moment that I spend as a Catholic Christian makes any kind of pain worthwhile. I just sometimes wish that it wasn’t so hard. But then, perhaps, I wouldn’t be feeling the immense joy that comes from understood suffering. Who knows? I don’t even understand my OWN past life now. That man died on April 15, 2005.

I’m just venting I guess. I just wish that if people have a hatred for the Church, that they would stage their protests elsewhere, and not in the presence of the body, blood, soul, and divinity of the Lamb of God. And for a Priest to administer the sacrament, and for a Bishop to approve? That’s it. I have never done it before, but I feel inspired to write a letter or two to the US Bishops and the Vatican. It’s time for this Country to change. Right now. I would much rather be hated for our piety, than hated for our disgrace and dishonor of Christ’s Holy Church.

People are afraid of Benedict XVI putting the hammer down in the U.S.? I say, bring it on Papa. We NEED the hammer. Quite desperately apparently.

Come Lord Jesus…

Peace to all,

Steven

One must fully believe and be in the state of grace to receive.
I do realize that–but Jesus chose to give the Eucharist to Judas…who clearly was not in a state of grace, considering he was about to turn Jesus over…I think there is something awesome in the Last Supper where Jesus looks at all, and says…my body and blood are for you ALL. I guess it is a tough call for a priest to make.

👍 Bring it on Papa Benedict!! I would LOVE to see the ax fall as well!! Let the pieces fall where they may, we need a heavy hand! Let’s see some of that “Rottweiller” spirit.

Back a few pages of this thread there was posted contact info. (Vatican, Bishops etc.) I actually emailed His Holiness. For whatever good that will do but who knows.🤷

Pray for Our Holy Father!

Benedict may lay the law down, but I am thinking and am afraid that will not cure the sickness we have in the western church. I think the return to faithfulness will be when the persecution starts. It may well be inevitable that as the majority of catholics in our free world stand idly by, that the forces against us will go beyond ridiculing us and look to deny us access to our faith upon the pain of persecution. Seeing the eucharist freely given to any unsavory soul may be unsettling it, but having it threatened to be taken from all will be what causes the revolution.

Thats well put. My son, who is in Florida , on the other end of this country, and I were just speaking of this by phone. The litigatation and large monetary awards are just the tip of the iceberg of what the devil is preparing to do to suffering body of Christ. The drag queens mocking is just one of the stones. Fortunately Jesus has warned us all this beforehand if we wish to follow him. He forgave them before hand from the Cross “Father forgive them” . It is our task to see this outrage in this light and make good to come from it. With our prayer and The Fathers prayed for grace we will prevail when all is said and done.

Note that the Archbishop was one of Pope Benedict’s first appointments. I don’t see any reason for him to change his mind regarding the archbishop.

I don’t have time to look it up now, but I recall somewhere that there is a possibility that Judas left the Upper Room/Cenacle prior to Jesus’ giving of His Body and Blood at the Last Supper.

And therein lies the catalyst to The Lord’s chastisement. Our “lukewarmness” that is so prevalent in the West that Jesus suffered the most for in the garden in His agony. When The Blessed Sacrament becomes scarce to non existent, will Catholics Christians finally rise from their slumber? Satan will no doubt win many battles, but we KNOW who will win the war.👍
In the mean time we are living in dangerous times. That being said, one cannot deny that in some respects, “the tide is turning”. The young priests coming out of seminary (precious few that there are) are much more orthodox, and it is starting to bare some fruits. Problem is, the turn around is moving as slow as molasses in January. Guess you could sum it up by saying that the “war” is becoming more evident and certainly more intense.

God bless to all,
I saw the Fox News coverage of the sacralidge and have to say I was first appalled by it and the Catholic Church none response of this event. Then I read about the fountain in Rome and red dye being placed in it as well as the many other desecreations in the past week on the news.
The non-response of the Catholic Church will only lead to additional events as many of the liberal and well meant Bishops not wanting to hurt feelings or receive negative response allow Sacraments esspecialy Communion to be given to known gay or known non-pracicing Catholics. If the Arch-Bishop had used common sense and followed the teachings this event would not have occurred. These apparent gay, caldly dressed, and with clown make-up, trespassing, and hate criminal evil doers would have turned a 4 year olds head and a 4 year old would have known they do not belong. Yet this Arch-Bishop turns our Lord over to them. U.S. Politicians receive communion at church even though they time and time again vote pro choice issues. Abortion,Stem Cell, Youthanasia
This is the reality of the U.S. Catholic Church and spits in the face of Rome and the Pope himself. The U.S. Bishops in my opinion need to get their act together and stop waffling around the issues. I pray one day they will. I believe in the doctrines of the church and the more and more we seperate from Rome the less and less Catholic we become. I am a Roman Catholic and the American church is acting less and less like Rome. Holding hands saying the Our Father not in the Roman Rubics and as far as I understand no permission from Rome, yet this continues. The excuse is well it’s does not say you cannot. Well I guess we should start dancing in the Isles as it does not say you cannot.

It is with deep respect for Our Bishops I write this. I will continue to pray that the Holy Spirit continues to give them the power to lead the flock of the Church through example and to not be timid in the face of evil when it enters our Homes and Churches.

I have not all the posts in this thread, but Father Pacqua addressed this on EWTN last night and read the letter of apology from the Archbishop.

Before condemning the Archbishop, I think his
explanation should be considered.

This is a response to the bishop’s apology.
http://www.speroforum.com/site/article.asp?id=11455&t=Archbishop+Niederauer’s+questionable+apology

There’s faaaaaaaaaaarrrrr more to this story than meets the eye. Not only that, now the bishop and the priest who concelebrated the Mass are going after those who videotaped it and who write about it in the diocesan newspaper. They’re all over the map. The bishop puts out this apology then priests who were involved and others in the diocese contradicted this apology by saying the the bishop couldn’t have done anything differently and all of this goes on without the Archbishop saying one thing. The Archbishop should realized that he doesn’t have the moral fortitude to take on this diocese and step aside for someone who does. There are too many times he falls back on “I didn’t know”. Someone who might want to find out should be running the diocese.

Just a thought. What if, I say what if these two “drag sisters” had gone to confession prior to recieving the eucharist and were in a state of sanctifying grace. Would the bishop have been wrong then???

If they present themselves dressed in that manner they offer scandal no matter the subjective state of their soul. Not only that, why would people concerned for their own soul have so little respect for others?

If they did go to confession, that doesn’t mean that they received absolution, since repentance must be present for absolution to be valid. A public offense (such as that represented by this group) demands a public redress. Private confession does not address the public aspect. Also, dressed as they were tells of their support for this organization - an organization whose very motto is “go and sin some more.”

Then I guess people dressed in shorts or low cut dresses should also be refused. I know, we could have the “dress police” posted at the front door making judgments as to their attire and not their soul. I guess we could require that all wear shirt and tie and the women in long dresses. Even though I would personally like to see people properly attired, it’s not going to happen and I don’t think we should judge a persons inner life by what they look like.

Let’s not be ridiculous. The dress of these two men is NOT comparable to shorts or low cut dresses. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the difference (although I used to be one). Similarly, the priest in Nicaragua was correct for refusing Holy Communion to the ladies who wore T-shirts that said ‘Yes to Abortion’. As much as I cannot believe people show up to Mass in T-shirts, it was the message intended that deserved the reprimand.

This is only a “what if” situation. How would you know they did’nt recieve absolution. Could it be these types are our modern day lepers. Maybe the actions of this bishop just might bring them back…

Similar to the, “What if Nancy Pelosi went to confession…”

This is PUBLIC scandal - the Sisters of PI PUBLICLY oppose the teachings of the Church- they dress as members of the group that has, “Go and sin some more” as a motto - these 2 are, in the public eye, members of the group THEREFORE

They must PUBLICLY recant, NOT dress as members of a group that bashes the teachings of the Catholic Church and PUBLICLY state that they are no longer members of the group and denounce what the group stands for. It’s all in canon law.

Or AB Niederauer could just excommunicate the group and all its members and stop all this. Then everyone would know the truth about them and their “message”. It’s anti Catholic and heretical.

That’s truly what needs to be done.

Thats interesting that you suggest that these freaky people are actually Catholics. Is that because they say they are “sisters”.

Wow you can’t be serious! I suggest you read the Catechism! 1387 To prepare for worthy reception of this sacrament, the faithful should observe the fast required in their Church.220 Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity, and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest.
