If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us have no self-conceit, no provoking of one another, no envy of one another. Gal 5:25-26
Just saying šŸ˜‰

I came to know the Lord Jesus Christ 7 yr before I converted to the Catholic Church. I had some experiences that lead me to the Catholic Church. But i know that if i came to know the Lord outside of the Catholic Church, others have to. Many of those people do not end up joining the Catholic Church like i did. When it comes right down to it, a persons relationship with the Lord is on a one on one basis. Church attentance is important, we should not forsake that as the Word says. I have friends that I know are true Christians and they are not Catholic.
Many know me when I leave my home but my family who lives with me enjoys the many things that those outside do not even know exist. Welcome home. Your friends know Christ to be sure, but in the Eucharist and the sacramental life of the Church you are now at home with Him. Neither Jesus nor anyone in the New Testament says that our relationship with Jesus is a one on one experience. So, let us not forsake what the word says (see Hebrews 10:25 and 1 Timothy 3:15) and know the true Church of Jesus Christ. Pray for your friends that they too may know the fullness of truth…teachccd šŸ™‚

While salvation is a one-on-one thing we should note that the entire Bible focuses on God’s developing of His people as a people. Note the Third Eucharistic Prayer
…From age to age You gather a people to Yourself, so that from east to west a perfect offering may be made to the glory ofYour Name…
Also note the Second Reading for today
Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. 9* In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
1 John 4:7-8 We must love to know God, and we can love only with others to love.

I can reply that they do not only seem to be so, but that they are actually dead sure. What would be the use of any bureau for the dispensing of authentic information, if the officials had to warn inquirers that there was not even certainty as to whether they had gone to the right inquiry office! No. The True church which is really Christ’s own bureau for the dispensing of authentic information to mankind in His Name, must be visibly discernible as His. The invisible and undiscernible Church theory is impossible, and as I have just said, opposed to the Will of Christ.
Furthermore, Protestants are brought up with the idea that it is not possible for any human being to locate the True Church. So they continue in religious matters to wander where they will, like people in a forest, who follow any line of tracks without bothering to ask where it leads. And they love the risky adventure of experimenting for themselves that they search Scripture for every possible text which they think will support them…go figureā€¦šŸ¤·

One True I just love the end of your post (By the time that the last Book of the New Testament was written around 100 A.D., the church which Jesus Christ founded was already on it’s fifth successor of Peter. ) but do you think non-cathloic unserstand or believe this,I do not are they be Cathloic, keep it up I love your answer, yor are like Harry Truman you just keep giving them - - - -,PEACE

yes, once we have came to know the Lord Jesus, the fruits of the spirit will follow.

Well I’m dead sure that there’s no such bureau. If I were convinced that you represented Catholicism, I could happily forget about Catholicism (at least about its claims to truth). Unfortunately for my peace of mind as a Protestant, there are a lot more convincing and interesting versions of Catholicism out there.

How anyone can look at this confusing, bewildering, painful, heart-breaking, beautiful world of ours and seriously think that it can all be explained by guidelines handed out by a bureau (or by a sacred book treated as a kind of operation manual to the universe, as in Protestant fundamentalism) is beyond me. I can understand atheism a bit better, because it can be reductionistic without being triumphalist (in other words, triumphalist atheists baffle me, but one can be an atheist and recognize the bleakness of one’s beliefs–triumphalistic theists like you actually think that their horrifying world view is supposed to cheer people up).

What you are saying just doesn’t match reality. You and those who believe in it can only be acting out of pure wish fulfillment, because there is nothing about the universe that might lead you to this sort of conclusion.

Edwin

The real difficulty for YT is to see how in this broken world there can be a God of the description Catholicism insists on. A Divine Being, maybe, but that is not the Saviour God of the NT - who seems to have been on sabbatical for most of history thereafter. Christianity is a terribly powerful argument for atheism. I certainly wouldn’t call atheism ā€œhorrifyingā€ - bleak, maybe. But if the truth is that God is not or is dead or is resting or on a journey (& where was He when His own people were undergoing a Passion more prolonged than far Jesus did ?), then so be it.

In such circumstances, to have faith is perverse in the extreme - it is despite the facts; so to think it can be assisted by them suggests that those who think so have not yet crossed the pons asinorum How can anyone trust in in something as dodgy as the CC, or in any Church ? šŸ™‚ That’s crazy. How is that any better than Fundamentalist Bibliolatry ? Talk about feet of clay… 😦 Thank God for Luther & Bultmann šŸ™‚

Thank you Mr. Pick, the truth is it is what it isā€¦šŸ˜‰ non-Catholics will do anything to try and discredit St. Peter because if they acknowledge him as the pope, therefore Catholicism…even though he reigned 25 years as bishop of Rome. They really should realize that if it wasn’t for the Catholic church, they’d have no bible either.

I realize it is ā€œeasyā€ to dismiss others who believe differently than us…or do not agree with our history…or our traditions and claim the reason they do not believe is their dislike for the religious tradition holding those ā€œhistoricaā€ and ā€œtraditionsā€ā€¦truth is though, most of us who do not find the claims of the Catholic church compelling HAVE studied, prayed and delved into the history and traditons and do not find they have a strong enough basis.

I do not reject Catholicism as much as I embrace Quakerism as the ā€œmost authenticā€ expression of Christianity.

For those whom find Catholicism or Othodoxy or Anglicanism or Mormonism the ā€œanswerā€ to their deep spiritual needs, I rejoice with you. Those of us who do not find those beliefs satisfying do not do so because ā€œwe’re afraid we’ll have to become Catholicā€ if we consider your claims…we have considered your claims…we don’t embrace them.

It just amazes me at what you keep posting about non-Catholics. I came here to learn and all you do is throw things in our face. You and people like you are so busey trying to flaunt your beliefs that you actually turn off people that come to learn. You say history is on your side, well I guess you already know history means " His story" the victors have always written it, but it does not mean it’s acurate. You have turned me off so much that now I am even questioning whether the Bible is just a fabrication of men. I know if Jesus walked the earth he difinately was not as arrogant as you!

In the Nicene and Apostles’ Creed that is used by Catholic and Protestant alike afirm by stating in the catholic church which means ā€œuniversalā€. Also remember what "church’ also means -The Body of Christ which is not the building but the Christian community.šŸ‘ yes the body of christ can mean also the Eucharist but that is not the subject at the moment. Read some of Aquinas, Bonhoeffer, Barth, Calvin
Peace be with all of the Children of God!
cindyfromindy;)
The Nicene Creed is referring to a single Church.

I’m not sure about arrogance, but I think these verses are worth considering:

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

John 20
21Again Jesus said, ā€œPeace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.ā€ 22And with that he breathed on them and said, ā€œReceive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.ā€

1 Timothy 3
15if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

2 Thes 2
15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

Matthew 16

17Jesus replied, ā€œBlessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.ā€ 20Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.

Hello racing59,

A few words for you, if I may.šŸ™‚

I am fully aware that this forum can be a little " over the top " at times but PLEASE consider that we are all one our seperate journeys and have indeed all came from different beginings with varied personal experiences. I am fairly certain ( LOL ) that most, if not all Catholics on this forum are trying ( at times over trying without need IMHO ) to defend as well as make the case for the Catholic Church.

Having said that, it is my hope that you will stick around and take full advantage of the wealth of knowledge and Catholic perspectives that are available here from many of my Catholic Brothers and Sisters.

God bless šŸ™‚
CJ

Nobody tries to ā€œflauntā€ anything. Fact of the matter is that it is the truth and the truth shall set you free…if you let it…

Racing, it is ironic that I often find myself in the position of counseling non-RC’s who are interested in looking at the RCC to not run away based on what goes on here. Certain ultra rabid adherents do not state RCC doctrine well, and are not representative of the type of RC you will meet on any given Sunday at Mass. Don’t disregard on this account.

I would suggest that you attend a mass, and then look up the RCIA leader in that parish and have a nice talk. You may or may not find what you are looking for, but this forum is a huge turn off to many seekers. I know since they often message me.

I used to be a RC so I know this very well. I had been admitted to the Dominicans before I realized that I was not called to religious life. I know the Church rather well. Most parishes are filled with rather decent gentle people. Many of the folks here are on some sort of mission to purge their church of those who don’t believe as they do. They, rather ironically do more harm than good sometimes, but that should not reflect on the RCC at large. If she meets your needs spiritually and you are in agreement doctinarily, then by all means become a RC. šŸ™‚

Thankyou Spirit. I was not coming back but a few e-mails convinced me. I don’t know were the Lord is leading me. I have tryed to heal from some horrer stories I have had dealing with some Catholics. My mother was Catholic(God rest her soul) and I have a cousin who is a Catholic priest in the Roman rite on my mothers side. What he did to my dad, family, and me at my mom’s funeral was unforgivable. I have healed from it, but people like ā€œOne apos catā€ brings it all back. I don’t know if I agree with all the Churches teachings, especially on Moral Theology. I have questions and just wanted to ask them with out being attacked or told what I believe. People might be surprise by my back ground, but I don’t think I need to reveal it to the public. I do enjoy your post, I do learn things from people of all Faiths and I enjoy that.I just can’t stand real arrogant people. They need to learn that they will catch more flies with honey than viniger.

We know. You’ve said this a few times already. Scratch that…at least a million times. Can you not find anything else to talk about, or do you just like recycling the same old threads so you can say the same old things? I’m about as close as to becoming a Catholic a person can be, but if being a Catholic ā€œapologistā€ means talking to people the way you do then I’d rather not be an ā€œapologistā€.
