Here is a better picture of the Pectoral Cross, although I still can’t make the top part out…

Beautiful Pectoral Cross for a pope.

I am all for The Church using modern media means to get the message out as quickly and as effectively as is discerned best - and this goes to my way of thinking to all of us eager to spread The Gospel. I rejoice and praise The Lord indeed that we have a pope in Pope Francis who is regarded as a man of Jesus and His Gospel and generally regarded as a holy man and priest and very possibly will be strong in government of The Church, particularly the Roman Curia. He needs our daily prayers every single day… With God on our side, who can be against us. However, as I said to my director Thursday, it can be difficult to accept the decisions of The Lord sometimes, even when we acknowledge with all heart that He does know best. It is the struggle to let our Catholic theology rule our heart and not the other way round.
As we approach Holy Week, I am thus very much aware of the struggle of Jesus in the Garden with His own humanity in which His theology as it were or His Love of The Father as prime is more accurate won over his humanity - sweats blood - at such a really horrific time in His Life with arrest and execution on the horizon.

With the election of Pope Francis, I no longer walk with such a deep sense of shame, rather that deep shame is now modified by a rich sense of Hope. Lord, please hear our prayers for Pope Francis, please be his strength, his inspiration and his guide, and his consolation, in all things.

@pontifex was BXVI’s twitter and the vatican has said the account will be at the discretion of the new Pope. My bet is he will twitter. Which I think is kind of silly. But seems to be the norm for releasing important information. you know, like theology…
There’s also a Latin version @pontifex_ln available. Hopefully we’ll get some tweets.

“When we do not profess Jesus Christ, the saying of Léon Bloy comes to mind: ‘Anyone who does not pray to the Lord prays to the devil.’ When we do not profess Jesus Christ, we profess the worldliness of the devil, a demonic worldliness… When we journey without the Cross, when we build without the Cross, when we profess Christ without the Cross, we are not disciples of the Lord, we are worldly: we may be bishops, priests, cardinals, popes, but not disciples of the Lord.”

Pope Francis

76 is the new 50

Monsignor Anthony Figueiredo said on EWTN World over live a few days ago that Blessed John XXIII was an old man when he became Pope and was only Pope for short time but he called the second Vatican council

Age or length of papacy is no barrier to the things that can be achieved

Before the Argentine Congress approved gay marriage in July 2010, some provinces in the country and individual judges had already begun allowing it.
With that reality and the pro-gay marriage stance of President Cristina Fernandez, the church had to decide what to do.
According to the new pope’s authorized biographer, Sergio Rubin, Bergoglio was politically wise enough to know the church couldn’t win a straight-on fight against gay marriage, so he urged his bishops to lobby for gay civil unions instead. It wasn’t until his proposal was shot down by the bishops’ conference that he publicly declared what Paulon described as the “war of God” – and the church lost the issue altogether.

Is this true?

This is the first I’ve heard of it. Hopefully, its a hack job and not factual like many things on that particular website.
2010 article claims
In 2002 he had supported the civil union when it passed in the Legislature of Buenos Aires and in April this year had proposed that the Church do the same nationwide.

As well as Huffington post and AP claiming ‘according’ to the Pope’s biographer the Cardinal then urdged Bishops to back civil unions bill

I have been thinking about this because it reminds me of the position of the President of the German Bishops’ Conference on civil unions.
  1. We do not exactly know this for sure – that he urged the bishops to support a civil union bill instead.
  2. The Wikipedia article about civil union in German says that, the then Pope JP II strongly opposed such a bill. His successor Pope Emeritus Benedict did the same. But on the other hand, the President of the German Bishops’ Conference said that he was okay with the government passing such a bill as long as wasn’t equal to marriage.
But he was responding to a question about him saying that the Church is open to everyone. The reporter asked him whether the Church is also open to gays. He said that, as a Catholic, he naturally believes in the ideal form of marriage and the family. But that if there are persons with this ‘disposition’, the state can pass appropriate laws for them. Then the journalist asked: “So you are not against same-sex marriage?” and he responded that he believes same-sex marriage is wrong because that would be equating it to marriage between a man and a woman.

Till today, I am still not sure whether by that he was ‘supporting’ civil unions. 🤷 But it seems so 😦 🤷

Maybe this was the kind of position Cardinal Bergoglio had at the time if the article is true. 🤷

Personally, to support civil unions as a strategy to preserve marriage isn’t right.
  1. Cardinal Bergoglio was pressurised by the other bishops to change his position as the article says. Again, we don’t know for sure. But whatever the case, it reminds me of the heated encounter between St. Peter and St. Paul in Acts, where St. Paul strongly critised St. Peter for being weak.
We shouldn’t expect that Cardinal Bergoglio was without fault nor that Pope Francis is going to be perfect.

Perhaps. But when teens crack open a world history book, physics book, biology book, calculus book etc… it is not dumbed down like youcat. Most of the teens I have worked with find it condescending and insulting. BUT there have been a few that it benefited it is not for everyone and in my opinion is NOT deep at all.

Youcat is a catechism. I think that is all that I will say about it.😉

I’ve noticed that we can ridicule those who are traditional, that like a certain form of the Mass, who believe in modesty. Who try to raise kids that are moral and follow the teachings of the Church but we dare not have a negative opinion on lifeteen, youcat, or anything else.🤷

Youcat is a valid approved catechism. The OF is a valid Mass. Lifeteen is a Valid ministry.
that does not mean that it is the best thing ever or that it is for everyone.
👍 👍 👍

I only say this to demonstrate an irony in your post, given the antipathy many people on these and other forums hold for the ordinary form of the Mass and not as an attack toward you or your position because your point is valid:

The Baltimore Catechism is a valid approved catechism. The EF is a valid Mass. FSSP is a valid ministry. That does not mean that it is the best thing ever of that it is for everyone.

In other words, your valid phrase can cut both ways.

(I will also admit that FSSP is categorically different than Lifeteen, but the point still holds.)

Ask yourself, “Would that be supporting sinful unions, or protecting marriage from being equated with sinful unions?” What gays are going to do, they are going to do anyway. The disgrace is that the state legitimizes gay unions as a form of marriage, which they are not. The state in out of it’s bailiwick, not to mention its mind. The idea of civil union is to allow gays to have the same tax and other civil benefits that are afforded to married people. At least, a civil union does not pretend to be a sacrament before God. Gay marriage is actually a sacrilege, and gravely sinful, not a sacrament. Civil unions are gravely sinful, but not sacrilegious. That’s how I tend to see it, anyway. What are your thoughts?

Not sure what to think. My brother is either gay or bisexual (we’re not sure), but I do know he is abstinent because of his strong Catholic faith. I commend him for his restraint.

This could be a smear. There is no direct quote or document proving then Cardinal Bergolio supported civil unions
