All Christians admire humility. A healthy skepticism is a good thing. For most of us, the Holy Father is completely new on the world scene. I had never heard of him before he became Pope. All this being said, I took a liking to him immediately with some small reservation. I like his style, I have heard mostly good reports about him, the Catholics I know are all enthusiastic about him, and for me he represents the possibility for the Church to take giant strides in getting the Gospel out to the world in the new evangelism called for by Pope Benedict in this year of faith and making the difference in whether this next generation will be the darkest or brightest period in the history of the world. Still, a part of me always reserves final judgment when it comes to any human being, Pope or pauper, since we are all works in progress-- the Church does not canonize saints while they are alive for a reason. Catholics are unique in that they follow Christ and His Church first and foremost, and if His Vicar on earth follows Christ and His Church, we then have the best of all worlds, if only the rest of us will follow him [the Pope], for Christ does wish to work through His Church, not circumvent it.Congratulations. There must be more people like you in these forums. Here there is a lot of skepticism, and I just can’t see why forum users can’t admire our Holy Father’s humbleness.
