That’s good, Dauphin. I felt the same way when Pope Benedict made his statement on Protestant churches not being true churches. At least we know he’s Catholic!
Do you think the Catholic Church is the true church?

If you don’t, well I guess you are similar to the Pope in this regard!

" Knowing Jesus Christ" is a somewhat nebulous description of Christianity IMO…kind of a thumbnail, so I don’t know how it helps your case.
If you don’t know what the CC teaches, I urge you to find out from an authoritative source. I always thought that if I was to reject something I should know what it is that I am rejecting…just for openers.🤷

I have said it before on this forum that Catholics do not appear united on a number of fronts; and this is certainly one of them. Many of you don’t seem to really know your own teachings on what to call Protestants; ie., heretics, scismatics, or whatever.
The disunity that you see is divided over if we see you as culpable for serious sin or not. I do not think that most Protestants know what they are doing, so I call them neither. Some hold that they DO know that they are wrong and are therefore heretics. Some hold that they choose not to submit to the rule of Rome and are therefor scismatics. It is all about how much culpability we see in your actions.
Getting back to the original post though; what about the anti-christ question?

I see the OP as being out of touch with Biblical reality, for the Bible mentions “antichrist” in the plural sense. Is there official Catholic teaching that would enlighten us on what Catholics believe regarding “antichrist?”

By some of the personal opinions expressed on this thread, maybe Catholics really prefer to call us Protestants “antichrist?” I would be interested if someone could show us the official teachings on this.
The anti-Christ is anyone who works against Christ and his Church. There are Protestant anti-Christs, Catholic ones, Orthodox ones, atheist ones, agnostic ones, Muslim ones, etc.

Don’t you think that disagreements existed in the undivided Church of the first millennium?

Very true. But, there’s a BIG difference between individuals not adhering to Church teaching, and ENTIRE SECTS or denominations teaching opposing doctrines. We don’t burn people at the stake (anymore 😃 ) and we cannot force individual Catholics to conform. Sometimes such people are excommunicated, as when JPII ousted those women who “ordained” themselves. LOL. Individuals will believe what they believe, but they cannot teach it.

But, in “protestant-land”, you have entire sects, with hierarchies of varying types, teaching opposing doctrines. Thats a whole other cha-cha

If you were not the target I’ll apologize and reload:)

“We Must Affirm that the Papacy is the Anti-Christ”

Lets get serious about this mans post shall we, without him here we’ll have to use rule of thumb, my thumb my rules.👍

#1. percentage of Protestants that believe he is?
#2. percentage of Muslims that believe he is?
#3. percentage of Atheists that believe he is?
#4. percentage of Catholic Priests that say he is?
#5. percentage of Nuns that say he is?
#6. percentage of Catholic lay people that say he is?

Perhaps a poll?
Perhaps the OP? he must have had his reasons for believing the way he did, otherwise why the post 🤷

Gottle Of Geer Says:
As for schism: Protestants cannot be schismatics unless they were born into the Catholic communion, were baptised into the Church united with the Papacy, & professed the Catholic faith as their own, before leaving the CC & adhering to a body already schismatic; unless they founded a schism of their own.

Those born into a schismatic body are not schismatic in a formal manner unless they make the schism their own faith by a conscious act. Lutheran babies are not schismatics. Lutherans unaware of any reason to be anything but Lutheran are not schismatics; for mere knowledge of what the CC teaches is not of itself faith; they can be formally culpable of schism only if (rightly or wrongly) they sincerely believe the claims of the CC & do not do what they can, God assisting them, to become members of the CC in a visible manner.

Those are some pretty tall words there Pilgrim let me ask a question, does knowing Jesus Christ help our case, we may not have knowledge of what the CC teaches 😊

Theology is highly technical, so the words are hard to avoid if people are to write accurately about it; unfortunate as that can be.

As to the question: it is Christ Who saves, & He undertakes our salvation before we think of Him. Churches are means of salvation - He is its Author; & He is not confined to the means He uses, even though we often are.

Does that help ?

With one exception there isn’t anything technical about knowing Jesus 😃

Why do I have this feeling this is going to be like pulling teeth Sheesh! how does one twist scripture when his Commander and Chief is the Prince of Peace 😃

Btw we’re being http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u298/hogndog/ththreadjacked.gif
How do you know that your interpretation is correct? You might say the Holy Spirit leads you. How do you know? If you have any hostility, shame, fear, jealousy, etc., it will create a hardening of heart that will distort your interpretation of God’s Word. Any hidden feeling that is not connected to God’s Love will contaminate how God’s Word develops in us. Since we are all sinners it is essential to confess our sins to one another in order to prevent any contamination of our understanding of God’s Word.

So said the Pharisees of all Jesus disciples , you used the wrong ammo Robert :o

A politico-religious sect or faction among the adherents of later Judaism, that came into existence as a class about the third century B.C. After the exile, Israel’s monarchial form of government had become a thing of the past; in its place the Jews created a community which was half State, half Church. A growing sense of superiority to the heathen and idolatrous nations among whom their lot was cast came to be one of their main characteristics. They were taught insistently to separate themselves from their neighbours. “And now makeconfession to the Lord the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure, and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from your strange wives” (Ezra 10:11). Intermarriage with the heathen was strictly forbidden and many such marriages previously contracted, even of priests, were dissolved in consequence of the legislation promulgated by Esdras. Such was the state of things in the third century when the newly introduced Hellenism threatened Judaism with destruction. The more zealous among the Jews drew apart calling themselves Chasidim or “pious ones”, i.e., they dedicated themselves to the realization of the ideas inculcated by Esdras, the holy priest and doctor of the law. In the violent conditions incidental to the Machabean wars these “pious men”, sometimes called the Jewish Puritans, became a distinct class. They were called Pharisees, meaning those who separated themselves from the heathen, and from the heathenizing forces and tendencies which constantly invaded the precincts of Judaism (1 Maccabees 1:11; 2 Maccabees 4:14 sq.; cf. Josephus Antiq., XII, 5:1).

Got this ammo from your own Encyclopedia 👍
