im in the same boat. boy when you quit exercising you can hardly walk to the mailbox and back. but ive been in this boat before one thing i learned. if you do 15 minutes and thats all you can do stop at that. now do that for a week. now slowly add five minutes in a week or so. then do that for a few days then add again. you didnt get out of shape in a week your not going to get in right away. im 46 and i learned that if i went back to what i used to do at 21 i wont walk for a week. then you get so sore you have to quit. so one day at a time and dont kill yourself. whats the hurry and remember the longer it takes to take it off the longer you will keep it off. just keep up with the small stuff now. if not you wont stick with it. and really i was told 20 minutes a day is enough for anyone. if you do that and change your diet you will be fine. heres another thing to think about. a piece of chocolate cake is lets say 500 or more calories or so im not sure. now would you rather eat it and walk for 45 minutes or forget the cake. as much as i love cake i would rather not eat it and not do the extra exercise. thats really the key. now there are days i would rather have the cake and i will do time. i learn ed to be thin is a trade off you want the junk you do the time. the time is exercise. i hate exercise. so ill do it 20 minutes a day and eat healthy then to eat the extra. hope it helps it did me. it gives eating chips and the extra junk a whole other meaning. its not forbidden because if it is we will eat it more. NOW HERES MY PROBLEM ALCOHOL. now i know you shouldnt drink but i enjoy a nip every now and then. especially with the Holidays comming up. now we know it will slow down our weight loss and its empty calories but what is the best drink to have out with the fewest calories .

Stay away from the egg nog, mixed drinks, sweet dessert wines. I think something like red wine, or a dry white, has the lowest glycemic index. Beer is very high in calories.

I’m working really hard right now to lose as much as I can before the holidays so that I can have more room to “cheat”. I will probably stop focusing so much on losing weight during that time, and focus more on maintaining where I’m at and not going overboard.

Sorry, just can’t have the Christmas season without cookies, pie and WINE. :o

Hi everyone, skipped my cardio this morning, I had too much to do this morning, but I will do it this evening:thumbsup: !!! I refuse to let myself down again:mad: , so I’m sticking to it, holidays or not!!!

Somewhere inside when we decide to really do something our will HAS to kick in, and, at least in my case, no one has ever held a gun to my head to make me eat or drink something:p . I’ve made the decision that I am going to get healthier:thumbsup: , I want to feel better and I want to look better. The only person who can get me there is ME (with God’s grace and help of course), and it has to be a deliberate journey, eating (or not) with a purpose, exercising with a purpose and a clear goal in mind.

I realized just how difficult this is and is going to be when I was with my family a couple of weeks ago. We’re Mexican, so as you can imagine…the Mexican food:eek: is great and authentic!!! Everyone was asking why I wasn’t eating what was prepared and saying I was crazy giving me weird looks:rolleyes: . They couldn’t understand why I needed to go grocery shopping, the fridge was full of food…true, just not the food I needed to keep me accountable to myself. I cooked my own food, I made enough to share with anyone who wanted what I was eating, but I wouldn’t give in and eat what everyone else was eating even though I knew it was delicious.

I plan my meals and exercise the night before and try to follow it as close as possible. I can’t leave any room for chance or I will fail, it’s too easy to fail:eek: with McDonald’s on every corner. As Bill Phillips says in his book “If you fail to plan you plan to fail” I’ve learned that he is absolutely right. I’m sure that as your lifestyle starts to change it becomes second nature and eventually this is just how you live…healthy. I want to get there, I want this to be a lifestyle, I want to live healthy.

Off my soapbox now:D .

Don’t give up people, holidays or not, use this as a test, prove to yourselves that your health is more important than any cookies or drinks that can be put in front of you, of course this does not apply to everyone, we don’t all have the same goals.

Yesterday was horrible. i went to my weight watchers weigh in and found out a gained 4lbs in a week. I knew i ate bad this weekend on my retreat but i was tried and got into the overload of thinking i won’t be able to eat later so eat as much as you can when you can…Not good. Luckly today is a new day. I’ve eaten well today and am giving up chips and salsa which seem to be my big down fall. I know i need to get back to the gym so i i just need to suck it up and go!

I think so.

The video had a 2 mile walk and a 4 mile walk. The batteries were dead in the remote so I could only click on the 4 mile walk. I figured it’d just be the same stuff but longer. I could just quit when I had enough…well, I think it must’ve been harder. Ooops.

I guess next time I need to find batteries for the remote. :o
I love her videos 🙂 Keep up the good work! 👍

Hi everyone. Keep up the good work. I’ve been offline for about a week. I have not exercised except for some walking while I was on my trip for business this week. Not good.

I had a slip and fall last week that really slowed me down. Then my water aerobics was cancelled on Saturday due to a swim meet at the pool. I could barely move on Saturday due to many bruises and aches, but I thought that I could manage the water. I started having anxiety about my trip on Monday which made me physically ill. That has not happened in many years. Bad flashback to final exams.

Tuesday I most definitely did not over eat because after grabbing a pastry and coffee at the airport I was on an involuntary fast for hours. I was already upset because all of the decent food was gone at the shop near my gate. I planned to get a sandwich and water before boarding the plane, but they did boarding too quickly so that I just had to go. We pulled away from the gate only to be held on the ground for 3 hours at DFW airport! All flights going across the Memphis air traffic controllers zone from west to east or vice versa were grounded due to a loss of communications.

I was treated to about 6 ounces of bottled water, the same of cold wine (don’t ask) and 3 tiny little packets of pretzels that were smaller than my thumbnail. I practically licked the inside of the packets for the salt by hour #3. I got overheated and my blood sugar crashed shortly after we were finally airborne. (BTW, I’m not diabetic because I just did the extensive testing this summer.) The flight attendant had to bring me cold towels and ginger ale to keep me from fainting. Argh!

When I finally regained some of my senses, I remembered a partially squished meal bar in my carry on bag. This sustained me through the next few hours until I got back on the ground to a food source.

Airlines should be ashamed that they don’t have some emergency food supplies on board. The passengers were starting to plan an escape en masse via the emergency slides with a frantic run for the airport fence. Our theory was that they could not arrest an entire plane load of folks if we made a break for it. I think that is why the offered everyone a free beer or wine drink around hour #2. It distracted us just long enough for the problem to be resolved. I was afraid that the restrooms or the A/C would croak before we got airborne.

Hopefully, I sweated or worried off a couple of pounds. I’ll be back in the groove tomorrow, but tonight is the season premiere of Ugly Betty so I’ll have to exercise on commercials.

I’m so sorry about your plane experience! And your slip and fall. Planes are terrible, terrible. I had a fainting/throwing up spell on a trans-atlantic flight one time - I’d been inadvertantly fasting since the night before, missed breakfast, couldn’t take food through security, no food at the airport, can’t eat the plane meals because of possible nut contamination, had to take my allergy meds because other people were eating peanuts around me (drives me insane, they serve pretzels from the NY to Brussels, so I know they have them, but on the reverse, let’s serve an allergen that can kill people just by being in the recycled air 🤷

Then my blood sugar started crashing - luckily there was a really sweet and attentive flight attendant, and he kept bringing me ginger ale and all the 3-chip per bag potato chip baggies he could scrounge.

Today I’ve had coffee, mixed berry yogurt, and I’ve got a plate of celery sticks sitting here. I have to remember to eat properly - on days DH doesn’t come home for lunch, I tend to skip it.

I’m recuperating from a flareup of my auto-immune problems, so no exercise right now. I’m hoping to try to work some stretching exercise back in on monday, even if it’s just a couple of minutes/poses.

Yeah, this is the boat I’m in now. I have health problems and a lack of activity, and my metabolism has slowed down so much that I gain weight when eating 900 calories a day. I also tend to gain inches and pounds when I exercise, along with the 900 calories  When I up my food intake though, since I can’t up my activity without severely paying for it (as in, not being able to get out of bed for days after a 20 minute walk), I also gain weight.

Does celery cause water retention? I seem to remember reading that it does…I’m currently have a flare-up of my illness and am on a heavy course of steroids, and I don’t want to add to the inevitable weight gain and fluid retention that comes with it.

What are good, natural foods for detoxing in a gentle way/cleansing the system of fluid, etc. I feel so toxic all the time from the sickness, and the medications. I’m allergic to nuts, so they’re out. I do lemon water frequently, but it hurts my teeth after awhile.
Sorry, the only thing that I know of is lemon water. Maybe you could just use more water and less lemon?

From everything I’ve read (fitness magazines and books), it sounds like you aren’t eating enough!!! When you eat so little food, it slows your metabolism down. You should try to eat something every 3-4 hours even if it is just a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts.
I’m not pregnant, so I’m definitely in. I’ll try this. I love veggies, but am definitely not eating enough fruit.

Just weighed in today. I have officially lost 20 lbs. since June!

YIPPEE!!! :extrahappy:

Now I’ve got about 30 lbs. to go…

Had a great workout this morning, worked my lower body/abs:thumbsup: .

I am FINALLY starting to feel the workout on the TARGETED muscles:clapping: , for a while there I felt it everywhere:bigyikes: :doh2: , that’s how out of shape I was:blush: .

Thanks be to God:bowdown2:, looks like I’m really making progress:D , I am so happy:extrahappy: that I’ve stuck to it no matter how much I didn’t want to exercise, it’s actually starting to feel good now!!!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Does anyone prefer the bike to the treadmill?

I have a treadmill, but my shins just hurt when I jog/run on it:ouch: . I wonder if a stationary bike would work better for me? I also noticed that after using the treadmill my back hurts more, low back that is (I have a ruptured disk in the L4/L5 region).

Can I get the same cardio workout on a bike as I would on a treadmill? What do you all think? What would be a good stationary bike to get, I want something good but not too expensive?

I use an elliptical machine, no pain on my joints at all! Like jogging in the air! The brand name: ORBITREK.

Hello everyone, just wanted to tell everyone to keep up the good work:thumbsup:!!! I had a great workout this morning and looking forward to a great day, thanks be to God.

I’ve been in the process of getting a cold so I haven’t been able to work out too much but I had a good weekend as far as food goes. It wasn’t great but I avoided alcohol and didn’t have anything fried or traditionally unhealthy except for one of the home made cinnamon rolls I made for my buddies yesterday. I’ve been cooking just about everything from scratch the last couple weeks so I know exactly what I’m putting into my body, its a lot easier to keep track that way 🙂

Hi to all! I am princz23 formerly! I changed my name to indicate the new baby A.J. Okay, he is not so new, he is a year old now. Anyway, I have lost from 189 to 170 since last December. I did the first 10lbs with Weight Watchers and the last 9 with Alli. I was down to 167 and I sort of relapsed. Stress and the baby waking up again in the night. Anyway, I had a break through today and thought I would share it with my great family on here. I have missed you guys. Way to go Masondoggy (sp?) by the way! Anyway, I lost 70lbs after my daughter was born 12 years ago. I kept it off until 2005 when my Dad died. He was in the hospital 5 months and some of you helped me throught that. I took Lexapro and that contributed and I didn’t have time for exercise, but there is more to it. When I lost my weight over a decade ago, it put a rift between my Dad and I. He has always teased me about my weight, but wanted to feed me unhealthy things at his house. This was how he showed his love, through fried food, etc. He was so hurt when I wouldn’t eat some of our favorite foods after I changed my lifestyle. I realized today that I think a part of me has been trying to make that up to him by getting big again and turning to food. I have been wondering why I can not just go to God and let Him comfort me. I hope this insight will be a break through for me. Forgive me the analysis, but those of you who know me may remember I am a therapist, Social Worker, Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor…so it is a work hazard. Keep up the great work and thanks for listening!
