Fr. Mitch is an example many priests and Bishops should follow. The whole thing is just a major scandal which sadly puts a stain on the Holy Church.

Talk: Cheap.
Prayer to our Blessed Mother: Priceless.
Personal prayer: Required by LOVE.
If you watch the episode of Scripture and Tradition, Fr. Mitch suggests that we wear Brown Scapulars in reparation for the idols at the synod thus giving due honor to our lady. So, he isn’t just suggesting talk.

I agree, talk is cheap. There are many of us out there that are way beyond that stage. Still more are needed. Praying for the conversion of those in the very heart of the Catholic church, fasting, rosaries and the like. I have been asking local area priests what their thoughts are about all of this and the like. I suggest we all get active in prayer.

Christ and previous Popes warned that these times were coming. No reason to get wrung out of shape, just a call to action. The laity need to get engaged.

There is an interesting bit about the Piraha people of the Amazon in the 3 minute video.

One thing I did appreciate about it, was that he did not actually attack the Pope, in fact I don’t think he mentioned him all that much. I think he had kind of that right balance, to be critical of someone’s action, but without condemning them flat-out.

You say that of Fr. Mitch Pacwa? What do you know about his prayer life?
This comment is really inappropriate. I will have to assume that you did not know what you were saying here.

It would only be an ‘idol’ if it were worshipped as a god. Can someone point me to some authoritative piece of religious study establishing this as a fact? Do those using this image really think that it, itself, has the powers of a god? If not, it is at best a symbol. But do we have an authoritative source for what it symbolises? If so, what is that source? Does any one actually have some facts?

And… what do they say?

Except he did kind of attack the pope. When the pope says that it is a display if respect and then this priest says to not think its idol worship is stupid he is calling the pope stupid instead of trying to learn more about it and be charitable to the pope.

I don’t think he explicitly attacked the Pope. He called out the blatant idol worship that was taking place.

To be fair, Francis called it a pachamama. And pachamama is worshipped. Furthermore, in order for the Pope to know if it was idolized by those involved, he would have to have quite an investigation with them, personally. You know, like when the marriage tribunal investigates the couple’s intentions to marry.

So you could say it goes both ways.

But if an object “pachamama” is featured in a religious ceremony, it’s harder to prove there were no intentions of idolatry than were.

It all comes back to the same important matter… Pope Francis called it a pachamama and needs to explain if that was a mistake, or not. And if it was not, then apologize for the use of it in the synod, church, and ceramony.

I don’t know anything about this “Pachamama”…I have heard that in South America there is a mixture of their pagan religion and Catholicism…is this part of that mix…if so why has the church allowed it…how long has it been practiced…one hundred…two hundred…three hundred years??..Pope Francis is from South America so maybe he is well aware that paganism has been woven into Catholicism for a long time.

We don’t need to take the Pope’s word or Fr. Pacwa’s for anything. Look to the primary sources themselves. Look at that Pachamama prayer the Italian bishops published, and look at the placement of Pachamama in the native pantheon relative to Jesus (Jesus is inferior by the way).

That’s why Fr. Pacwa said it as he said: we’re not stupid. Spin it all you want but all evidence indicates that this is a pagan idol.

Even Popes make mistakes and poor judgment calls.

Thanks for judging the Order I was thinking to join. You should be pope, you have an extraordinary way to discern the Spirit’s Will!!
