Most of these people in this church are related.

Its difficult to know for certain but I would imagine that this family’s children are not exposed to different viewpoints. They probably are reared on hate.

A while back I read a very long biographical article of Phelps. Here it is: Addicted to Hate. Highly recommended reading for anyone interested in WBC, but be warned – even if you think Fred’s a monster before reading it, this is going to exceed all your expectations.

By the way…not all the soldiers’ funerals being picketed are homosexual.

Their “protest” has turned towards heterosexual soldiers now.

See how the ones who are all dresses up like supposedly god fearin’ christians with their convervative dress are the ones who are the wolves in sheeps’ clothing?

I (being a devout Catholic) have gotten into Catholic versions of that type of radicalism stating that only Catholics get into heaven, blah, blah, blah…

I lump them all together in a group I’ve come to term as “Christian Exclusionists” that work towards exclusion of people “from” Christ.

Phelps needs locking up in my opinion, not for his views (which he’s sadly entitled to) but for breach of the peace, or whatever else he can be charged with for picketing the funerals. He’s certainly not a Christian as far as I am concerned, but I do feel sorry for the children brought up into it. As far as I know he not only believes that only people at that ‘church’ are saved, but also they don’t want other people to be saved and celebrate other dying

After the Amish school shooting they announced that they were going to protest at the childrens’ funerals. A talk show host offered them an hour of his on-air time if they would leave the Amish alone (I think it was Neal Boortz, but don’t quote me on that).

Who in their right mind protests at a funeral, anyway? I know, they’re not in their right minds, but seriously? When Bishop Hogan of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese died a few years ago his funeral was picketed by a group of atheists. What goes through these people’s minds?

He needs to be locked up for violating The Constitution in his blatant violation of those mourners rights to peace.

They (to me) obviously are “not” representative of the overwhelming majority of Baptists who have become very close to us over the recent years in our battles against abortion.

In fact Mr Phelps was kicked out of a Baptist Church.

While I cannot stand them I also see how this could be used. I happen to work in the legal field, if you start locking up people like Phelps then the next thing you know many more will be persecuted for “Hate Crimes” such as speaking out that Homosexuality is a sin, including mainstream ministers and priests. Westboro Church could very well be used as a catalyst for this happening. The first to get hit hard would be 501(c)(3) Churches. Some already have been.

Many States are now adopting laws stating that no one is allowed to protest a funeral. I know they have threatened to picket a few funerals of soldiers in our town within the past few years. They ended up being a no show, although the Patriot Riders were still there, just incase!

As for them, or all of these other people who hate America. Why do they stay??? It is not like we wouldn’t take up a collection to put them all on the first flight out of America!!

Wow, I wasn’t aware their site was back up. A while back they got sued good and had to take all their sites down… ahhh it was a happy moment. I see they have revamped the look of their site but it is still all about hate. I think the single most deplorable picketing they did was at the Amish school shooting funerals… I have tremendous respect for the Amish and their ability to forgive… but Phelps group carried it too far that time!!!

This time last year, there was proposed hate crime legislation (or rumors of such) that would be aimed at any religious group preaching the ills of homosexuality. For a week or so, there was full-page advertisements in newspapers (USA Today as one) that asked the religious to take a stand against this attempt to silence clergy.

But yes, in regards to the 501(c)(3) thing, I was listening to EWTN radio on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade that mentioned some religious organizations being threatened with having their tax-exempt status removed if they advised people against having abortions.

Why do they stay? Because if they tried their antics in 99% of the countries in the world they’d be jailed or killed. What they hate is actually what keeps them free and alive. Maybe that is their problem, they just hate life.
