What’s your favorite Bible verse/chapter? Why?

For me, the longest-running favorite is 2 Corinthians 5:17:
So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.
It’s to be reminded that, because of Christ, I’m no longer the person I was. Sure, it is still a process to be fully dedicated to Him, but He has made me capable of doing so.

Another personal favorite of mine recently is Galatians 3:28-29:
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is not male and female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendant, heirs according to the promise.
As someone who struggles a bit with social position, either feeling inadequate or superior to others, and with (relatively mild) gender dysphoria, this passage is really comforting and a call to strive to get past both those struggles. It calls me to focus more on Christ than either where I am socially or how I feel about my body, voice, pronouns, etc. Not many passages really are so simultaneously comforting and challenging as that one, at least based on where I’ve been the last few years.

. When I was a little kid, we’d visit my aunt in her city apartment. There was an old lady upstairs who was known as the most devout woman in the whole city. She’d sit on her balcony and read the Bible most days. The ground went up in the back to almost her balcony, so she would say hello to us (my cousin and me) when we saw her there. One day, she called us over and was saying about the value of reading the Bible, and that she hoped when we were old enough we’d be interested in reading the Bible, too.

Then she said she was just reading a verse, and she called us closer, and she said she wanted to read something to us, and would we promise to remember it forever? Because, she said, these were the most important words in the whole Bible. So, would we promise to remember these words? I promised to try to remember them forever. So, she read, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God….

Outside of Sunday school, that was the first Bible discussion I ever had. I can’t say best or favorite verse or most important, but I did manage to remember this talk with her for the next 64 or so years.

I don’t have a favourite chapter but a favourite book and it’s the book of Esther I loved it so much I had to go and get the movie of it “one night with the king” I admire her bravery and goodness so much

Lol, that Knox quote is SO strange.

The Knox Bible has NOT aged well, especially due to Star Wars.

I literally cannot use that Bible because every time I do I start reading it in a “yoda voice” in my head.

Seriously read the Book of Proverbs in the Knox translation in a Yoda voice and tell me it doesn’t sound like yoda speak.

It’s sad because the Knox is the only complete modern English bible translated from the Vulgate, but to me it’s useless because of the yoda issue.

Shame since Msgr Knox was such a great scholar who did so much good for the Church, and IMO is now a Saint.

The Source of true freedom .

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Cor 3:17)

What a Helper !!!

" “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me." (John 15:26)

Without the Holy Spirit we are weak , powerless humans .

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”” (Acts 1:8)

How I long for this fruit .

" But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." ( Galatians 5:22-23 )

The best Source to find the Truth .

““I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” ( John 16:12-15)

Prompts me to ask " Am I in the flesh or in the Spirit ? "

" You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. " (Romans 8:9)

Latter part of John 15:5 …for apart from me, you can do nothing

The reason we are able to love as God wills .

" And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." (Romans 5:5)

Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit .

" How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. " (Acts 10:38)

How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings
GOOD NEWS and Peace:
of him who shows
GOOD PATHS,
who PREACHES SALVATION
and says to Zion
THY GOD REIGNS!

-Isaiah 52:7
