Just a question to start a wholesome discussion among the faithful. Personally, mine is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” this personally this fills my heart with hope and helps me to get through tough times. 😊

I like today’s
Reading 1HOS 2:16, 17C-18, 21-22

Thus says the LORD:
I will allure her;
I will lead her into the desert
and speak to her heart.
She shall respond there as in the days of her youth,
when she came up from the land of Egypt.

On that day, says the LORD,
She shall call me “My husband,”
and never again “My baal.”

I will espouse you to me forever:
I will espouse you in right and in justice,
in love and in mercy;
I will espouse you in fidelity,
and you shall know the LORD.

My favourite individual verse is Isaiah 41:10, as a real inspiration to me. Something we all need to learn is to trust in God at all times.

Isaiah 41:10 “fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

My favourite chapter in the bible is perhaps Luke 1, mainly for the Annunciation passage. It corresponds to my favourite mystery of the Rosary, which I think embodies “joyful” and “mystery” the best. And of course, we can all learn from the Blessed Mother’s example in obedience to God.

Luke 1:38 “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

I’ll also mention 2 Maccabees 6, mainly for the “martyrdom of Eleazar” passage, a great example of courage and steadfast faith.

2 Maccabees 6:30 “It is clear to the Lord in his holy knowledge that, though I might have been saved from death, I am enduring terrible sufferings in my body under this beating, but in my soul I am glad to suffer these things because I fear him.”

Sooooo many. I dont think I can choose just one. But this is one of my favourites. Psalm 119. 71. It was good for me that I was humbled so that I might learn your statutes.

I love this as it tells me why I was blessed with chronic illness and enables me to see it as a way back to God and helps me not be so prideful. I like this translation too for that reason (other translations say afflicted and not humbled). It also leads into this past weeks gospel reading about St Paul’s thorn in his flesh which is another favourite for the same reason. I love hearing ‘Mr grace is sufficient for you’ it reminds me to stop whinging!! and be grateful for everything I have .

Old Testament

Tobit 12:13 Douay-Rheims/Knox/Catholic Living Bible
“And because thou wast acceptable to God, it was necessary that temptation should prove thee.”
"Then, because thou hadst won his favour, needs must that trials should come, and test thy worth.
“Because you found favor with God, it was necessary that your faith should be tested.”
New Testament

John 16:33
“In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart, for I have overcome this world.”

Psalm 139. My mother read it to me when I was 15 years old and my closest cousin was murdered. Through the years the power of that Psalm has only increased and continued to provide me comfort when I need it most. It has been there through family hardships, war, and comforting others.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting.

Because I am prone to anxiety Isaiah 41:10

“Do not be afraid, for I am with you; stop being anxious and watchful, for I am your God. I give you strength, I bring you help, I uphold you with my victorious right hand.”

When He arrived at the house of Jairus He caught sight of a commotion, people weeping and wailing. He went in and said to them…" Why all this weeping"? “The child is not dead, just asleep.” They ridiculed Him. He went into the room where the child was He took the child by the hand and said" Talitha koum." “” Rise, little girl" A child of twelve she arose immediately “Give her something to eat.”. i have loved this bible verse since I first heard it as a child…and I guess I related to it and I remember thinking if something happened to me Jesus would come.God bless us all…🦋

Just looked it up, the rainbow wigged guy with the “John 3:16” sign hasn’t been at the World Series or US Open for a while because he is serving a life sentence in the penitentiary.

Learn something new every day.

Used to be John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭RSV‬‬
Now that I really understand what the bread of life discourse means, it is John 6:35:
“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:35‬ ‭RSV‬‬

1 - Matthew 28:20
2 - Numbers 6:24
3 - Ruth 1:16

They are all beautiful and full of love.

Psalms is loaded - with good verses.

Psalm 116:15
“ Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints “

Psalm 122:1
“ I was glad when they said unto me, let us go unto the house of the Lord “

I prefer that which describes humanity’s imminent future in the 21st century, namely Jeremiah 25:32-33.

See! The disaster spreads
from nation to nation.
A might tempest rises
from the far ends of the world.
Those slaughtered by YHWH that day will be scattered across the world from end to end. No dirge will be raised for them. No one will gather them or bury them; they will stay lying on the ground like dung.
