Probably about the same time as he made Them, about giant ants that were mutants caused by the nuclear tests in the desert Southwest.and James Arness played the role of “The Thing,” years before “Gunsmoke.”

The Guns of Navarone was not a B movie.…
Any movie with David Niven in it.
…
Peter O’Toole … one of the two greatest over-actors there ever were. Richard Burton was the other.… Peter O’Toole is magnificent, …
Mysterious Island is good and Swiss Family Robinson too! When Worlds Collide and Mysterious Island. Both great B movies I love to watch again and again.![]()
Like many Disney movies in this genre SFR was okay–it’s certainly harmless entertainment. The Castaways and Island at the Top of the World also come to mind.Mysterious Island is good and Swiss Family Robinson too!
that was a good movie!Trilogy of Terror (1975), starring Karen Black.
Interesting. I have not seen it.The Intruder, 1962, directed by Roger Corman, starring William Shatner. Very interesting and unusual movie in a number of ways. It was a true “B” movie in one way - namely, it was made on a very low budget, like many Corman films - but not schlock at all; on the contrary, very serious both in the subject matter (racism in the South) and in the way that subject matter is handled. Shatner is excellent; when you watch him, you can’t help but wonder if the success of Star Trek ruined him as an actor. It’s an unusual role for him too, playing the bad guy.
Corman encountered a lot of trouble during the filming, as there was a lot of opposition from locals (the movie was made on-location in a number of Southern small towns). Segregation, “go to the back of the bus” and that sort of thing were still common in the South at that time. They had to move from one town to another in order to get away from the angry residents. If you watch the movie, you can see that the same location rarely appears in more than one or two scenes. Corman even had to do some clever things with camera positioning when filming the Shatner character in his hotel room, to disguise the fact that it was actually not the same room in each scene.
Yeah, the Prophecy series was killer! The Cotton Club, I like the music.

Escape from New York.
The Seventh Sign.
12 Monkeys
Any Apocalypse movie with Christopher Walken in it. [Prophecy]
The Stand. [Loved the book]
I am Legend
Resident Evil
Interstellar
The Lion in Winter [Not a B movie, but my favorite movie of all time]
They actually got that idea from a real life person:I thought the ex-presidents stole the show. The “I am not a crook” quote from the robber in the Nixon mask and Swayze as ex-president Reagan’s “Don’t forget to vote” were worth the price of admission.
Evidently a remake has been attempted, but who messes with a B grade classic?
There must be some money in it…![]()
the Castaways was good. I was a big hayley mills fan.Like many Disney movies in this genre SFR was okay–it’s certainly harmless entertainment. The Castaways and Island at the Top of the World also come to mind.
I do like When Worlds Collide except for the stereotype in those days of the disabled man in the wheelchair as evil. But John Hoyt does a good job in the role. When Worlds Collide and Mysterious Island. Both great B movies I love to watch again and again.![]()
Remember though that they often played larger-than-life characters, as in Beckett, for example. However, if they are indeed over-actors as you say, then long live over-actors!Peter O’Toole … one of the two greatest over-actors there ever were. Richard Burton was the other.

Worse that that. There were no people of color on the ship, perhaps the only ship that made it. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, Native peoples didn’t enter the picture. There was a sop to them when the team leader mentioned that other nations were building ships, but any Americans of color didn’t stand a chance.I do like When Worlds Collide except for the stereotype in those days of the disabled man in the wheelchair as evil. That is one Godzilla movie I have never heard of!Hmm, after reflecting on this for a bit,
Godzilla vs the Smog Monster.
When I was young, a local station showed these monster movies on Thanksgiving weekend.
This specific one was so “B” it didn’t make the Thursday line up, but was shown usually on Friday afternoon.
