Gabriel of 12 - 'one church’
Code:
"One faith, one Lord and one baptism" - fine. But help me find the specific reference to 'one church'? I guess I missed it. Sorry.
Sure Iam glad you asked? You see when a Catholic speaks about the “Church” we are speaking about the biblical teaching of the One body of Jesus Christ, not a building church or a select group of believers who attach themselves to a self named group of believers. The Catholic teaching of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is the One body of Jesus Christ living on earth “universal” and in heaven in the communion of Saints, you see not even death can seperate us from the Love of God. Here are some scriptures for your review of this One body who is the Church.
Col.1:17
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
18
He is the head of the body, the church.
Ephesians 1:22
And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,
23
which is his body,
1Cor.12:20
But as it is, there are many parts, yet one body.
.
But God has so constructed the body as to give greater honor to a part that is without it,
25
so that there may be no division in the body, but that the parts may have the same concern for one another.
26
If (one) part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy.
27
5 **Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. **
Romans 12;4
For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function,
Ephesians 5:23
For the husband is head of his wife just as Christ is head of the church, he himself the savior of the body.
24
As the church is subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything.
25
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her
26
to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word,
27
that he might present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
28
So (also) husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29
For no one hates his own flesh but rather nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ does the church,
30
because we are members of his body.
31
“For this reason a man shall leave (his) father and (his) mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”
32
**This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church. **
1Cor.10:17
Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.
Col.3:15
And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful.
This apostolic Traditional Catholic teaching shows no difference between One Body in Jesus Christ and One Church both are the same. The Sola Scripture does state One Church as you implied, but the biblical and Apostolic Tradition does not conflict with Scripture but support one another in the ONE CHURCH IS THE BODY OF JESUS CHRIST.
Did you know the “Church” is the Pillar and foundation of Truth? here is the scripture that reveals this Apostolic Catholic Tradition;
1Tim.3:15
But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in **the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth. **
This is the One Church I referenced is the One body of Jesus Christ is the Catholic Church.
Peace be with you
