because for many people the surest way of knowing the will of god is through recorded revelations.Why do u think that there is a lot of fundamentalism mainly in the religions that consider a book as the ultimate authority?. just as muslims and fundamentalist protestants do.
you must realize that in Islam fundamentalism is mainstream. and yet they are far less fragmented. why do you think that is?
and yet there are far more more details, beliefs & rituals in Catholicism than the average Bible Christian.the concept of sola scripture does do harm.
because people can say whatever they want about the book.
Realistically, Authorities lie in people, not in non-living objects.The book has no authority by itself.
