Are you having a laugh? 😛

How could Christ have told him to ‘go to confession’ like he was nailed to a cross so he could not go anywhere!!!

In ancient Roman Empire, it was a capital offense for a Roman Centurian to allow a condemned man to escape, like who would let him ‘go to confession’.

The suggestion is a mickey take. It is poking fun at Catholicism. Cheap scate jokes intended to offend.

If expecting a condemned man who is nailed to a cross so he cannot go anywhere is evidence the Catholic Church is wrong as he did not ‘hop down from the cross and nip to confession before returning to be re-nailed’ is the best arguement you can come up with, then I suggest you keep silent as you are only making a monkey out of yourself and people are laughing at you 😛

Regarding JOHN 6
addressing those who stayed! I am standing there, someone is preaching like i’ve never heard says my “flesh” if you eat it you have eternal life, I believe he is speaking literal…**WHAT WOULD BE THE NATURAL NEXT STEP?**A lil hunk of His flesh? YES!
Let’s be serious people have been trying for centuries to figure out eternal life either in or out of the flesh, someone says it, you believe it, and your not gonna bumrush him???
The thread is now degenerated into the theater of the absurd. The old Catholics are cannibals defense, I’m out of here.

Ah, yes. The wisdom of where to cast your pearls.

Myfavoritemartin has gotten his answer.
Did you check out Hebrews 10.26-30? Press the arrow.
And on another thread.
Funny how Protestants believe every literal word of the Bible, except when it comes to this.
But we’re dealing, or were dealing, with a moder Uzzah (2 Sam. 6.6-7). We can only leave the fool to his folly.

Nothing natural about it, everything unnatural: you are now assuming that Christ and the apostles were dummies. You superimpose on a Bible translation in English cooked up by Protestants whatever you please: but ignorance and silliness are no approaches to the Bible. Christ upbraids nobrainers speaking beyond what they are competent to speak of. You need to read Greek and Roman philosophy, as Paul did: know thyself.
No answer, just an attack!

Nothing to do with RC’s.
Again NO answer

Between the moderation of post #164, and the ranting of my[least]favoritemartin in #166, I posted my answer the links where I answered the fool in folly in #165.

Since it seems he LOOOVES to talk, and has said nothing to post #165 (and the others) I am concluding he has to concede the point, but chooses to puruse puerile slogans. In which case no attention need be paid.

Save your pearls.

It is an irrational system that has subjected millions to mental slavery.

It names itself after the most barbarous empire, that destroyed the Ancient Greeks and their culture, plundered the world into the dark ages, and polluted both the ideas on God and on ethics.
The ‘Roman’ in Roman Catholic was used in the Reformation as a smear against the Church.

The name has been adopted by Catholics themselves over the hundreds of years since then.

It is not an official name of the Church. The Church is the ‘Catholic Church’ and that’s that!

This doesn’t tell us why the crowd doesn’t rush Jesus and get a pc and a sip of eternal life**… IF! He was speaking literal.
He was speaking SO literally that the majority of the disciples could not accept what He said because they thought it was cannabalistic. It was repulsive to them. They KNEW He was not speaking symbolically. They said 'who can accept this?" Then He said “Does this shock you?” He was speaking so literally that He knew it would shock them. He had told them that He was the Bread of Life. He had told them He was the LIVING Bread come down from Heaven and that whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood will live forever. There is nothing symbolic about any of this. The Jews did not take it symbolically, the Apostles did not take it to be symbolic, and Jesus was not speaking symbolically. His words were up close and personal, in-your- face, literal TRUTH.

And we know what happens when people come up against truth and they aren’t ready to accept it–they run away. They hide and make excuses. Because if they accept the truth, they have to change.

The question is not why they didn’t rush Him and get a “sip of eternal life.” The real question is “Why did they run away?” Because they could not accept the Truth. It would rock their world. (And eventually it did.)

So if you are thinking of becoming Catholic, think of this. Are you ready to accept the truth of Jesus’ words? Because if you do, your whole world will change. YOU will change. You will be feeding on the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. He will nourish you with His Body and His Blood. Now how much more of a personal relationship with Him can you get?

I can’t believe that you, MFM, are actually suggesting that people would walk up to Jesus and take a bit out of him. How does that make any sense?

I think we agree that those who refused to try to understand it (maybe because they were picturing what you are suggesting), walked away rather than tough it out. Why wouldn’t it make sense that those who stayed wait to hear who Jesus meant this to take place? They only had to trust that what he said was true.

What a sad thread this is. I saw it when it had only a few posts and opted not to respond. Then I saw it had 170 post and out of curiousity took another look.

I doubt that this person was asking for help making a decision on whether or not to join the Catholic Church.

But, my advice is:

Join the Catholic Church if that is where God is calling you to be.

Join a Baptist Church if that is where God is calling you to be.

Join a Methodist Church if that is where God is calling you to be.

etc.

God is not limited if you join a less than perfect church. Your problem will be discerning whether it is God who is drawing you to that church or your own will.

But, if you are truly seeking God and not your own desires, than God will use every monent to change your life for the better.

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

It is more important to look for the Truth in things rather than feeling. I have found modern churches to be dismissive in terms of seeking truth.

MY advice is to look for the Marks of the Church:

One (Unified)
Holy (Causes you to be moral and holy in all things)
Catholic (Universal)
Apostolic (Handed down to us by the Apostles)

That limits the choices, doesn’t it?

… But, my advice is:

Join the Catholic Church if that is where God is calling you to be.

Join a Baptist Church if that is where God is calling you to be.

Join a Methodist Church if that is where God is calling you to be.

etc…
Hi Ginger2,

Do you think God will ever call someone to start up a new Church?

He was speaking SO literally that the majority of the disciples could not accept what He said because they thought it was cannabalistic.
And that begs the question if he was speaking literal as you indicate why was Christ flesh NOT stripped?
The question is not why they didn’t rush Him and get a “sip of eternal life.” The real question is “Why did they run away?” Because they could not accept the Truth. It would rock their world. (And eventually it did.)
No the question IS why didn’t they rush HIM? If He was SO literally speaking

You quoted some text I need your interpretation first!
And it was a far cry from an answer to what should be an easy question.

SIMPLE QUESTION!

1st attempt at answer

No answer, just an attack!

My answer is still that your approach to the NT is not an approach, but instead a misuse of it. Since you misuse it so freely, of course your questions are silly: in that sense, they are simple questions, as posed by a simple mind, the contrary of what Paul showed. Prostestants–or whatever you are–protesting here are a funny lot: you remind me of an Islamo-infant posting to a secular site recently: not only did he convince nobody, he confirmed everybody in his own faith. Like you, he seemed to enjoy the attention, which I expect will be short lived.

Your time would be better spent learning Greek and Hebrew.

Paul started on handful in the name of Christ all over the place…In his journeys.
Hi myfavoritmartin,

Paul? You mean the one in the bible who had a visionary encounter with the risen Jesus (Acts 9:5)?

Although you didn’t really answer the question I addressed to Ginger2, you have led us to a new point of discussion; Are you suggesting that St Paul and St Peter started up different churches?

Are you having a laugh? 😛

The Lord was THERE. He did in person what the Priest does by his authority and in his Name when we come to Confession. Why is that so confusing. When we come to Confession, we, too are that thief, helpless in our sin and at the mercy of our Lord.

Confession is almost the best thing there is about being Catholic! Next to the Eucharist, of course. Even before I was Catholic, I regularly made sacramantal confessions in the Episcopal Church. The practice of owning up to my sins in the presence of another man of God contributed greatly to my ongoing conversion.

Quote Charlie: “Do you think God will ever call someone to start up a new Church?”

I believe that sometimes God allows us to be in less than perfect places for time to prepare us to serve Him.

As I look back on my life, I can see how God has used all experiences in my life, good and bad, to work together toward His good and perfect will.

Yes, we will make mistakes and at times may be fooled, but if we are truly seeking God, He will not let us down. God always keeps His word.

And if someone chooses a church because that church comforts him/her in their sin, that is their choice. If that person is seeking to justify their behavior, then they have no one to blame but themslves for being deceived.

But, if that person is truly seeking God, then God will not let their time in that psuedo church be wasted, and will in His timing (which is always perfect) bring them out of that false church and into the light.

That person, for awhile, will feel the time was wasted. But as God begins to use them according to His will, they will be thankful because they will see how God uses even our mistakes to bring about good.
