First, St Serra’s statue was torn down by rioters and defaced. Then Shaun King called to have all Christian images pulled down.

Then, the Black Madonna was defaced with BLM: https://victorygirlsblog.com/black-madonna-defaced-netherlands/

I am very upset, and I think we need to discuss what we can do to stop this. Please, will everyone tell me what we can do, how we should organize, so on?

I don’t mind if they do because on a level playing field the truth wins.

Of course the most important thing we can do is to pray. Pray and pray!

But also, isn’t it time to also do more? To confront people like King, and demand an apology, for example?

Are you waiting for someone else to do something? What exactly do you think can be done?

we could"

1 remove all our religious statues from public view

2 we could put big fences around our statues

3 or we could continue to live good Christian lives and pray for those who commit vandalism

I vote for #3

I am going to write to any TV show that has Shaun King on, and decry his bigotry and hatred.

But what is needed is a Catholic organization that will spearhead a rebuke to people like King. The Catholic League doesn’t seem to have any real power. Any other suggestions out there?

This is a good idea, and it’s a step that all Catholics can take.

I’m hesitant to offer suggestions because it’s a bit worrisome that you might be looking for someone/some organization to spearhead vigilante justice.

I think individual parishes can hire security to ensure that religious artwork and property are not vandalized or destroyed. I also think we should pray for those who persecute us.

Are you in the Netherlands? It’s my understanding that they have some very sigificant, historic racial discriminatiion issues. If one lives there, one can address those issues. And maybe put the Madonna in a safer place.

If you’re not in the Netherlands, you can work for peace and justice where you are.

While it is sad to see religious artwork defaced, we get just as much vandalism in USA in non-protest times from people who are mentally ill, drunk, high, or just angry at God/ religion/ the church/ etc. Most parishes and shrines know that they need to have good security and be careful about public access.

I don’t see how giving Shaun King attention will help here. That’s just what he wants. Ignore him.

Our power is not in organizations. Our power comes from the love of Christ. We are always going to be persecuted in this world, but fear not, Christ has overcome the world. I believe it is our duty to love the vandals, and to show them what it means to follow Christ, not to fight back, because if we are looking for victory in the world, I don’t believe we will find it by using the world’s tactics.

Sorry that may not be the answer you were looking for, but it’s what I’ve been hearing in my heart.

(Bolding mine)

This is what’s so concerning.

In South America, I can’t recall what country there was a chain of congregants arm to arm praying the rosary to keep the LBGTQ protesters and vandals away from their church. Some were assaulted, but they managed to keep the hoards from breaking through and vandalizing the church.
This has only been in the past couple of years. I would be up for that kind of action to protect my church from desecration.

I can go along with this.

Are you in the area where the Black Madonna was defaced? Can you contact the local media (newspapers, TV stations, radio), and get a discussion started?

What do we do? Consider it all joy!!

Consider it all joy, my brothers, when you encounter various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. And let perseverance be perfect, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

I think parishes are honestly going to have to start hiring security to primarily protect the people at mass.

Once vandalizing Crosses, statues & Churches becomes “old hat” for these radicals, they will start attacking people at prayer.

Who is going to foot the bill for this security? In my town a security guard makes between 18 and 35 K per year. To provide a guard at all times, 3 shifts per day, allowing for sickness, call outs, vacation, you would need 6 full time people. Add in their benefits, you are talking about nothing less than an extra 10K per month coming out of your parish collection plate.

I don’t doubt it.

The parish. Many synagogues and even mosques have already gone to this, so I know it is possible. I am not saying this is the right answer, or even an option for all parishes, but there are locales where stuff like this should probably be considered, especially if you have a large parish that is high visibility to a hostile community. Also, many parishes have fairly significant security systems that can be used to notify the police if there are people on the grounds that are not supposed to be there.
