What are you protesting?

You still haven’t read my passages yet. They are about living for Christ and turning away from our sin nature.

I believe Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Saviour who died on the cross for my sins. He paid the penalty for my sins. Now that He is my Lord I live my life in a way that pleases Him not my own sinful desires.

Here are a few verses to back up what I am saying:

John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have ever lasting life”

Romans 3:21-22. “But now God has shown us away to be made right with Him without keeping the requirements of the law, as in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everone who believes, no matter who we are.”

Paul uses Abraham as an example of faith in Romans 4:3 “For the scriptures tell us, ‘Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.’”

Romans 5:2 "Because of our faith, Christ as brought us into this place of undeserved privelige where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look foward to sharing God’s glory.

Romans 10:8(second half)-9 “And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Galations 5:5 “But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised us.”

Ephesians 2:8 “God saved you by grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”

Hebrews 11:9 “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to God must believe that God exits and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him”

1 Peter 1:5 “And through your faith, God is protecting you by His power until you receive this salvation which is ready to be revealed to you on the last day for all to see.”

1 Peter 1:8-9 “You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting in Him will be the salvation of your souls’”

1 John 5:1 “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves His children too”

Just so you know what faith actually is I will give you the following verse:

Hebrews 11:1 “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”

To show you that Jesus in John 6 was talking metaphorically, read where eternal life comes from in the following verse:

1 Peter 1:23 “For you have been born again, but not in a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last for ever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.”

It is the word of God.

Benu,

Catholics use the entire Bible. The entire liturgy is infused with scripture. I was a Methodist minister for 27 years. I used as much of the Bible as I could fit into the service. I occasionally attended other non-Catholic services throughout the years. Sometimes they would use the Bible a great deal and sometimes not so much. Many were honest God fearing folks to the limits of their ability and knowledge. Many were not.

It wasn’t until I started on the road to Catholicism that I really understood how well Catholics know not only the Bible but how to apply it. E.g., I counted the number of scriptures used in a typical worship experience at my church. The count I got was 56. There are liturgies that use many more than that. We have some kind of liturgy at least once per day throughout the week almost every day.

Outside of Catholicism and Orthodoxy there is nothing that remotely compares with the use of the Scriptures within the historic Church established not by Luther, Henry, or Bible Bob down the street. Nothing.

You can list scripture verses until you are blue in the face. We already know them. We wrote them. They were inspired by God for our use. We are glad that you use them as well. Let the Holy Spirit use them to lead you home to His Church.

Nobody should bother calling themselves Catholics or Protestants. If you’ve made Christ your Lord and Saviour, and that means actually living for Him, then you will be saved.
:amen:

The problem is our denominations and traditions have become idols. The worst idols that Christians have are not statues or graven images, they are churches, denominations, doctrines etc.

I have been guilty of idolatry. I have an idol called Anglicanism. It needs smashing up. I know a lot of RC’'s and Baptists and Penticostals have similar idols. They are all man made idols. Jesus is not interested in them. Jesus is not interested in ecumenicalism. But Jesus is interested in him building his Church. HIs Church and nobody elses.
So much time is spent over absolutely pointless arguements that mean nothing such as the Eucharist or the Perpetual Virginity or Pennance.
and baptism and eschatology and predestination and many more.
These have nothing to do with God. We should be focussed on serving God. Living our lives for Him, It pointless to get caught up in debates like this when we should be living for God not attacking one another. Read 2 Timothy 23-24.

It’s not an idol if it is of God. Christ established one Church. There may be some who worship the Church but I’ve not found anyone who does at least not anyone who is a member of it. God is not only the source of truth, He is the Truth. The Church He founded teaches it. Every other group is derivative of His Church. I do mean that the Church He established is Catholic. It is complete, whole, and universal. All non-Catholic Churches derive their existence from her. All who go to heaven are or will be Catholic. Why not get an early start and convert?

Benu,

You referred to “my passages”. Sorry, they don’t belong to you. They were given to the Universal Church to be used by them to help save the world.

I pray for your sake you are right for your knowledge of the Eucharist, pennance, and Baptism and you saying they mean nothing could be considered, now I do not know, but possibly a sin aganist the Holy Spirit.

Benu was saying the arguments are pointless. Which they are. He didn’t say they didn’t mean anything. The arguments are pointless though. After the first 500 years of them, I’m bored. 🤷

Then the solution is obvious. Join the Church and stop fighting the Holy Spirit and the Church.

lets see your arguments are
  1. not pointless
  2. Which they are
  3. Did’nt say didn’t mean anything
    4, are pointless
  4. First 500 years?
  5. bored
I think you are confused.

You are arguing with yourself.

🤷

😃

What is the objective of these arguments?

🤷
I think you are pretty right, but it may be pointless now to continue the arguement since you seem to be unwilling to join the RCC. Until you do so, according to many here, you are never going to be right.

No, he can join one of the many Eastern Catholic Churches. That would solve his problem.

An update on the situation in my hs group.

The mom who was supervising the class answered the Catholic member’s objections to the question, “what are you Protestant.” by saying we are all protesting something whether Catholic or Protestant.

I was a little offended by this statement. True Christianity is an embracing of Christ not a protest of anything.

It occurs to me that Satan protested, Adam and Eve protested, but Jesus conformed–to the Will of God.

I don’t like the term Protestant, but I also reject Reformist. Those who stayed in the Church and battled the abuses were reformers. Those who left were schismatics.

Would Schismatics be a better term than Protestant? To a Catholic it would be accurate, but I imagine a nonChristian Catholic would find it offensive.

I am still wondering about what the parents in my nondenom group said. I imagine that they just repeated a lot of the misunderstandings and slanders about Catholic doctrine. 😦

I have answered your questions and more can you answer mine.
Did you not read the passages I gave you? They clearly point that the way to God is by faith. It’s not by eating the Eucharist. The Eucharist is important because we do it to remember Christ’s sacrifice. But taking it doesn’t actually give eternal life. It is faith that does.

Then we must live for God by walking in the Spirit I could give you a million more passages on that. Sadly when I talk to the more hard out Catholics, the emphasis is not on living for God but trying to tell me that the bread and wine actually turns into flesh and blood. That Mary was a virgin her whole life (the Bible even says she was not, read Matt 1:24-25), that we should pray to Mary so that she can talk to God on our behalf. This is not Biblical either (John 16:26-27). And pennance! How can pennance be biblical. That implies that we have to work to get to heaven. It’s a free gift as those scriptures made it claer.

You guys say you know scripture well but you don’t. If you actually read the bible and took it as a whole then you would see why it is pointless to go on arguing as you do. But you don’t you take scriptures and twist them to fit them with your own beliefs and miss the important points of actually living for God.

Benu,

I don’t think in all my years posting on different bbs have I ever run across anyone who is wrong on everything. But here I meet you. You are the first person in my memory that is wrong about everything. Amazing.

So you don’t belive that you are saved by grace through faith in Christ. Despite the fact that I produced 11 scriptures that say that you are?

So you don’t believe that we should focus on living our lives for Christ?

Please what should I do then if believing in Christ’s sacrifice and living for Him is wrong?

Just simply saying that I am wrong is not an arguement. You need to tell me how I’m wrong. But to prove that you’re right you have to use scripture. Something I have done and you have failed to do. And apparently I’m the one that is totally wrong?

😦
It’s true Jesus conformed to the will of God. However only to the will of God. Jesus spoke out against the pharisees and other religious leaders all the time - one reason why they hated Him. I hardly doubt that throwing over tables in the temple was conforming.

Paul also, in a lot of his letters, is protesting (if you like) against peoples’ beliefs and actions. For example to the Corinthians against their lack of concern about the sexual immorality in their church. He’s also protesting against those who said the gentiles had to be circumcised.

And don’t you realise that by speaking out against protestants like you are, you’re protesting yourself?

I’m not interested in arguing. When you are ready to learn I will help you discover but I’m not interested in your mindless arguments.
